I'd rather have T.O, he's a much better blocker and he hasn't had any locker room issues in 3/4 years.
Gaffney was beat out by Branch for wr3 which would only happen in NE. He has no ST value and would be the 6th receiving option in our offense. Edelman is the primary punt returner for now si he'd get the nod on gameday for ST purposes while there might be 3 TE and 4-5 rb active on gameday. Hard to find value for him on the roster. He was released early as Bill often cuts the vets loose first to catch on elsewhere and he plays the young guys in week 4 to see who gets moved to the PS. Gaffney may also be given a call back on a reworked deal at this point for depth.
I like Gaffney on account of his being the only active NFL player with whom I have exchanged a high five.
The Pats have brought in a ton of WR's and TE's this offseason. Gaffney just didn't beat those guys out, but he could easily make our team. Gaffney wouldn't start over Hill. He would just provide some desperately needed depth and a desperately needed veteran with experience - who by the way is excellent in the Red Zone.
That was the big issue with Hill going into the draft. It will take some time for him to develop his route running. Right now it'll be best to have him run the routes he's best at which are the Post, Flag and Fly.
OK maybe awful is too strong a word (he did have better stats than I thought last season,) but Gaffney is very slow and has had drop issues throughout his career. I don't think he adds much of anything to our passing game.
The organization seems hell bent on letting Hill and White play and develop (nothing wrong with that with the QB's on this roster), but if they were to change their minds, this would be the guy to sign, not T.O..
He also looked pretty decent on that curl route that Sanchez hit him on, which is good because routes like that go hand in hand with the vertical ones.
You're right. Some guys throw shit out there about players when they don't really know. Brady loves Gaffney, unfortunately, he has been slowed by injuries in camp and couldn't really compete with Branch for the #3 receiver spot. Basically with the Pats, after the #3 receiver, you have to have ST value or you're gone. That's why him and Stallworth are gone. If healthy, he's a nice 3rd receiver for any team thin at the position.
Exactly. Branch had a good preseason and basically kept his job safe. Gaffney was cut but its not because he's lost a step or anything like that. I thin he would make a good #3 receiver. Its not like Mason all over again.
Word in Seattle was that he was already constantly whining this year in camp when things didn't go his way, and that is just as much the reason that Carroll cut him as the pass drops.
Completely agree. Gaffney is probably not a viable alternative since he has been hurt in camp (thigh), and/or $500,000 of Schilens' deal is guaranteed.
I read and heard it in a number of places as well, and I'd bother to look if I gave anything resembling a shit for the argument that Owens should be signed here. It's a non-issue, or they would have at least kicked his tires the first time. Now he's in danger of never playing again.
Anybody heard a peep about Eron Riley? I remember he had decent size 6-3 and was fast as hell. Has he developed at all? Think this would be his second year.
