This now gives us three of the first 9 players selected in the 2009 draft.....Jason Smith, Mark Sanchez, and Aaron Maybin.
Heres more clarification Bills over Jets. That's why I and many others though you thinking Rex outright lying was jumping the gun quite a bit. Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN A source says that the Rams reached out to the Jets for the deal. NYJ didn't plan on trading Hunter until they got a call. #nyj
Oh my god. That means someone in the organization actually wanted Wayne Hunter there. Wonder who that could be?
I like this move. Wayne couldn't cut it against 2nd stringers. It's not like we gained a definite talent but Smith is younger and at this point has more upside. Look at Maybin. He was terrible in buffalo but has played his ass off and has produced for this team. Maybe it'll work out for Smith but if he doesn't Howard will start which I don't mind since he played well for being thrown into the fire against Carolina.
I like the trade a lot. WFH was a bad situation -- it's hard to contribute as much when you've been demoted. Both these guys are in the same boat, and a fresh start is probably win-win for both clubs. There's probably more possibility of a Jets upside. At least its less obvious what Smith can't do. WFH had become a turnstyle because his weakness was so glaring. Smith smokescreens it in a general level of non-specific fail.
how bad is smith if they looked at hunter and thought "wow, that hunter guy is something we need to get"?
At the worst case we paid the Rams $1.55 million and added $1.55 million to our already tight cap to get rid of Hunter. I have to say that's not a bad worst case necessarily since I didn't want Hunter on the field with Sanchez for even one more play. Of course in the worst case scenario we might have been better off just cutting Hunter and saving the money on the cap. Ok, now in a better scenario maybe the Rams have agreed to pay some of Smith's salary for the year so that we didn't take a cap hit when we acquired him in exchange for Hunter. In that case this was a relatively free look at a guy who might have a bit of upside since he is just entering prime time. In the best scenario Smith is actually good, maybe at RG or RT if one of those guys goes down, and we can evaluate him well enough to decided if we want to make him an offer once we have cut him next spring to avoid paying the $11.25 million roster bonus. I have the feeling it is just trash for trash though and I hope we got some relief on this year's salary in the process.
When Rex was saying that in his presser Tanny was in his office chuckling, saying to himself "That's my Rex"!. Then called Shotty.
It really was. I don't think I have ever seen a worse offensive lineman in a Jets uniform and certainly not one who started games multiple seasons.
Well, you'll see one when Smith puts on a Jets uni and get's abused. It's pretty clear from this thread that most of the people here really have no idea just how god awful he is.
OK dude, try to follow along. If you trash a player and say he sucks, you will never be able to trade him. If you say he's going to be your starter and he's coming along, then, lo and behold, you might be able to trade him for someone with potential. Call Rex a liar, but #1, you don't trash your own player and shatter whatever confidence he might have left, and #2, he might have some trade value if you don't bash him. This coming from a Bills fan. The Bills couldn't do jack squat with Aaron Maybin, who is performing quite nicely under Rex. You might still be bitter about that.
