Gaffney might be slower than Plax. We don't need any more receivers whose forty times can be measured with sundials.
With the Rex Grossman throwing him the ball, Gaffney had more receptions and more yardage than anyone on our squad last year.....and is only 31. I'd be more than happy if we took a shot on him, if the coaching staff/management feel our WR group needs more quality depth.
I would love to see the Jets add Gaffney. He had 947 yards receiving last season. Sanchez needs another veteran WR without putting such a burden on Hill who looks like he still needs time to mature as a passing threat.
Jets have plenty of speed/size guys now. They could use a veteran route runner like Gaffney. Let's wait to see who else becomes available though.
Gaffney had a solid year in a large role last year. I'm confident he would do well here in a smaller role. So far of all the guys available, I think he would probably be the best fit from a personell perspective.
Gaffney isn't terrible, he was decent for Washington last year. He'd be decent veteran depth who probably wouldn't disrupt the locker room. Wouldn't be against this.
Mr.T has already made one good move today by getting rid of FWH. Two good moves would be off the charts but Yes they need to consider bringing in Gaffney. When is the last time the Jets signed an ex. Patriot? Been a few years I think. Its time!
Kerley is the slot guy, Holmes is the 1, and Hill has so much upside...Schilens is a ??? If Hill can catch he is such a threat...back shoulder throws, deep post, he needs to be like plax though and get that high throw in the end zone. He is taller than all the CB he is going to face so he has to play tall. Hell Patrick Turner also seems to have a good vibe going with Sanchez also. In the first half they had 3 pass plays over 20 yards (1 over 30) and the drop by Holmes would have been a big gainer. Taking more shots outside that 7 yard dump zone from last season
STILL needs time? What is he, in his 5th year? Gaffney had one good season, that was last year. Not sure where he stands now, but the face he wasn't part of the final cuts tells me that he wasn't even top 75 up there. I guess we'll find out what he's worth, but I'd much rather let Hill mature while running routes and not watching.
Hill is a talented receiver no doubt. He had about 58 yards receiving against the Panthers but, also some critical drops. He's raw, not many rookies perform at a top level in year one. The Jets clearly need help at WR and a veteran like Gaffney could fit the bill. On further reading the Pats cut Gaffney due to a thigh injury, so maybe he's not the best choice for the Jets right now. We'll see what Tanny can do to bolster our offense in the next week or so.
The only reason I don't really want us to bring in Gaffney is because I want Hill to be thrown in to the fire. Yes, he's raw, but he showed a lot yesterday. His drops do not concern me much. Its a mental thing that can be coached. I always give the example of Braylon. A receiver with drop issues, he became one of the most sure handed receiver by the time he left (one drop in his entire 2010 season). That is why I think Hill needs to get game time and improve his mechanics doing so and become a solid starter next season.
Hill needs to work on his routes big time... That "double move" where mark hit him for a big gain down the sideline was one of the worst routes Ive ever seen, almost funny. But that can be taught, and hopefully he's a quick learner.
