Wow did he suck tonight and I think tonight showed he will never be a starting QB in the NFL. I think it time for him to focus on a new position. There no way going into your 3rd season he should be confused when he drops back to pass. It looking like what he did in Denver last season was a fluke.
He sucked, but I don't think he looked confused. He unloaded a few nice, decisive throws, and on the other plays I'm not sure anything was open. I think he could stand to stop worrying about people saying all he does is run. He looks like he's determined to throw it, even when the play is obviously over. He should just go through his looks -- 1, 2, 3 -- then take off and run it, and slide. Also, throw it away (which he did a couple of times last night).
He definitely fucking sucked last night. That being said his role will be different in the real season.
Oh, I don't think it's time for him to conclude he will never be a starting QB in the NFL. His throwing has improved. You've got to remember, we're watching him do the aspect of the job that he is the worst at. He needs the work, but it doesn't always result in a good statline.
The excuses will never stop. And thinking that Tim Tebow can go through progressions is one of the most laughable things I've ever read. He has no clue what an outlet, or a 2nd receiver even is.
There are about 12 rookie or 2nd year QBs starting this year that don't have major mechanical flaws and failing to read defenses. There are likely another 10 college QBs that will be ready to step up next year. Why waste time trying to "fix" TT when there are so many immediate alternatives. Not to mention that the other QBs on the the Jets roster are way ahead of the QB skills of TT?
Well, the NFL sees a constant procession of QB's from college who seem to have all it takes . . . . and yet they exit the stage in a few years. For some reason, it involves something innate, some competitive greatness, that is not a matter of just mechanics and throwing. I think one of the hardest things to find (and this is supported by some commentary) is a guy who can do the same thing when 300 pound rushers are coming as he can when they're not. It's the one skill that is hard to develop -- the poise and toughness to do it even when there's pain coming. Tebow is the extreme in this regard -- I don't think he feels the pressure enough. He's so "okay" with getting hit that he's still trying to manufacture a sense of urgency back there. But if he can get the decisive reads down and the footwork to go with it, he will be calm under pressure. Disagree that the other QB's on the roster are way ahead of TT (assuming you meant Simms and McElroy). They are mediocre and ill-equipped to move the chains when the pressure comes. But agree that the window closes -- the constant flow of new blood into the NFL means he's got to get it right during this gig. When his contract is up, he needs to be at starting caliber proficiency or else. His development road has been a little rocky so far -- yes, he's got 2 years in the league, but his first coach was fired mid-season and the lockout was a factor. It doesn't affect everybody, but he needed that development more than some. Alex Smith was in nowheresville at this point in his career, relearning habits for a NFL offense.
Hey be consistent and show up when Tebow doesn't suck. Just keep that in mind. I'll be calling you out .
Every other young NFL QB gets praised for making plays with his feet. Russell Wilson (who has looked very good so far) ran all over the place this preseason. I watched at least parts of all 3 Seattle games so far and didn't hear the first criticism about him not progressing through a bunch of reads before taking off and running. Same for RGIII, Cam Newton, etc. As we all know, though, Tebow is held to a different standard that applies only to him.
His throwing has improved a lot, you're right. He has still been off-target with some of his throws this year, but he is throwing a lot more very nice spirals, very few ducks so far this preseason. And when he's been on with this passes in the preseason, they have pretty much been right on the numbers. Definite improvement from last season. He's never going to look overall very good in a traditional drop-back passing attack, though, he needs the gun and the spread option to really show what he can do. I think they had Sanchez taking a higher percentage of snaps from the gun last night than Tebow did.
Because "pretty" doesn't always equal "success" with NFL QB's. Tebow was one of the most elite passing QB's in NCAA history. He is still undergoing changes to his throwing motion. Not surprising that he is still inconsistent, it will get better. Certain aspects already are getting better. He is throwing a higher percentage of good spirals than he did last year and when he is on, he has usually been right on the numbers. That is also an improvement from last year. He made some bad throws last night but he also made some beauts.
I was laughing about this very thing watching some highlight pieces on ESPN. Russell had a nice run early in the game, yet on the replay, he had a wide open receiver going down the right hand side of the field. The talking heads talked about what a nice run it was. I sat there thinking that Tebow would have gotten killed for it. That Hoge would have gone on and on talking about how he lacked field vision, didn't see the receiver, and wrongly took off running when he should have passed.
Yep. I have done a facepalm several times this preseason while watching young QB's in other games doing multiple things and getting praised for them that Tebow would be and has already been criticized for. I also could barely contain my laughter yesterday while watching ESPN before the game and hearing Hoge talk about what an incredible offensive weapon Cam Newton is. Well, I don't disagree with that, but that's sure a different tune than Hoge was singing before the 2011 draft, when he was pretty much saying Cam Newton wouldn't be any good as an NFL QB. These guys are prisoners of the moment, and they all hope that we are too, and have very short memories. Just like Boomer killing Tebow early in last season, then coming around at the end of the season and basically saying Tebow had won him over, and then now in the last few weeks he's killing him again and saying the exact same stuff as last year! Hoge is the same way, he pretty much piped down about Tebow big time late in the season last year when the Broncos were making their run. Then when they signed Manning and traded Tebow, Hoge thought it was Christmas time and his biggest present was getting to attack Tebow all over again! Too funny, but very sad and pathetic at the same time.
I would have no problem showing up when he does good. So far this preseason he hasn't played good at all. All I been saying since he became a Jet is he no starting QB. He can play in the NFL just.
