I feel MUCH better about our OL after watching Austin Howard tonight. He doesn't need to be perfect, just better than WFH. Our O still can't score though

Knock on wood. He looked lost before this week. Think he finally realized this is his only shot at becocming a starter and he's taking the bull by the horns. If he can play like this weekly, than yes he's the solution.
Couldn't have expected much more from Howard tonight. If he can keep playing like he did tonight it will be huge for the season.
this actually may be the worse thing that could happen. he looked pretty good. and that might make tannenbum and rex think he can step in and do the job. which just may make them not worry too much about picking up a starting caliber tackle. however he wasnt going against jpp, osi or demarcus ware today. and we may at this point find out in week 2 that he cant handle those types of guys. and that would be a fucking catastrophe.
The worst thing that could happen is the replacement RT looking good? I understand people being negative but that just sounds stupid. You would have preferred he looked like Wayne Hunter?
It was pretty entertaining to watch Tebow run for his life or get destroyed every other play. Not so much fun for the Teboys when they have Wayne Hunter protecting their idol. Anyway Howard looked quite impressive out there tonight against a good pass rusher. Pushed people around in the run game. We might just have a chance after all.
maybe i didnt write it correctly. i still dont think he is any good. i still think he will be exposed by good des and olbs. i worry that him playing well keeps the jets from getting someone who might be able to do the job for the full season. leaving us with this guy who ends up not being able to handle top level pass rushers. i mean charles johnson is a decent player. i wouldnt consider him one of the elite pass rushers in the league though.
Hunter got owned by 2nd/3rd stringers when he was out there. Based on limited plays it seems quite clear that Howard is an upgrade over hunter. He's obviously not a probowler but we can at least get by with someone who doesn't look like they don't belong out there. There probably isn't going to be much available in terms of tackles. This is probably what we're working with.
I'm looking forward to in-depth analysis from one of the fellow TGG'ers, but I have to say Howard looked mighty fine today. Sanchez actually had protection. That in itself is a huge improvement over the disaster that is WFH. P.S. Ok. Let me make this crystal clear: Howard is not a world-beater. (Or he would have gone in 1st round.) That said, he still provided pretty good protection, which didn't exist before today in Jets offense. With WFH in there, you know Charles Johnson would have looked like Bruce Smith reincarnated. So that much is a clear improvement.
How do we know he is not a world beater? There are number of pro bowlers that have been late picks or undrafted free agents. The guy really hasn't had the opportunity to prove himself. In philly there was a change in philosophy and in baltimore he was not getting any reps. Bottom line he got the job done. Sanchez gave him a vote confidence. Not sure what Jets fans expect? There is only so much he can prove in one game. Time will tell....
Austin Howard is my new favorite player. He played good tonight and that is all the Jets have been asking from Hunter. I know Sanchez was happy being upright for a change. Then Hunter comes in and gets manhandled by the 2's and 3's. He just has not looked good since last season. Howard has good feet nice balance and is huge. Cut down day I would pick up another teams tackle and dump Hunter. I have to say also Vlad Ducasse looked really good tonight also. He was pulling and moving the pile.
Howard was impressive tonight. I think he will be 5 x better then Wayne F. Hunter, Who was owned by 2nd and 3rd stringers tonight.
Considering how bad Hunter looked, I'm thinking Jets should just eat Hunter's contract. Start the season with Howard + OT cut when teams get down to 45.
