Yes, all true. We also had the Dennis Byrd career ending injury about two weeks after Toon's. Again in 1993 we were thought to be revamped with Boomer and Coslet reunited, Ronnie Lott on D. Started out ok.
I mean it makes sense. If the guy can only handle sub-average lineman, you are only going to go against the best if you get into the playoffs. Plus any team with a dominant pass rusher will just flood the side with Wayne Hunter. He provides more of a handicap than just him alone in 1 on 1 protection situation. If you over protect his side, then the other side is weak. Basically all the walls of the fort have to be sound to keep the invaders out.
I don't think its denial as much as it is using proper form. The Jets FO isn't going to throw contracted players under the bus. They never have because it's bad form. We've seen this for the last 6 years. Praising guys and saying they'll be around for years and then they get cut the next week, or traded away. One sure sign a guy is getting traded, Tanny will say he's our starter and we plan to bring him back.
I'm talking about more concrete things like giving him a $2.45 million contract based on his awful play last year, not drafting at his position and Otah being their best attempt at replacing him. The first two are rewards for what I'm sure the Jets felt was a good starter at his position. That's denial at best, stupidity at worst.
Thank God you aren't in any position to make player decisions on this team. Trading our first string RB two weeks before the season starts--when our only legitimate other RB option is Joe McKnight--is absolutely insane. Please go get your shinebox and do what you do best...put a nice gloss on the wingtips of people who actually do make important decisions for a living.
Give the offense time, folks. I don't think it's gonna set any records this year for points scored or anything, but it takes time to get a new offense installed. More time that 3 or 4 weeks of training camp, anyway. Lets see how the new system works when the players get it down and everyone is on the same page.
Maybe Schotty wasn't so bad after all. 3 FG and 0 TD in 2 full games is pathetic. Meanwhile Sam Bradford is looking very good, hooking up passes to all-time greats like Danny Amendola and Lance Kendricks.
I agree with this sentiment. To be sure and for the record, there is not sufficient basis as of yet to conclude the Jets are definitely going to have a bad season. But the homers here arguing that the Jets' performance to date should be ignored or at least very much discounted are kidding themselves. It is one thing for a team that came off a good season in solid fashion, that made good off season moves, to have a bad pre-season record. Maybe they only played their starters for a brief period. But they looked good when they were in there. Maybe they were trying to go through their second and third stringers, seeing what they have down the roster, and lost the game because the other side stuck with their better players longer. That's not what has been going on with the Jets. The Jets didn't even play a single down with any QB's other than Sanchez and Tebow, while the Giants played their third string Qb. The Jet starters did not even execute well in a vanilla offense. Are we supposed to say they were not even trying? Well, if they were trying, when the starters were on the field, and looked bad, that is a cause for concern that has nothing to do with what happened with Browning Nagle. I know Holmes and Kerley were out. But I don't know that anyone here can reasonably expect them to make THAT much of a difference when they return.
Schotty has looked good the first few games he's had any QB. Then he gets comfortable and it becomes all about Schotty, his dreams, his desires, his most intimate of intimates, and then he gets nervous in the service.
Sanchez won offensive rookie of the week his first 3 weeks of the season in 09 with Jericho Cotchery as his number 1 receiver and I think Chansi Stuckey as his number 2 lol.
Meh. The Jets's problems on O the last few seasons have been much more about the roster than the OC. We are seeing that now. Schotty was not a great OC, but too many here scapegoated him. And there's no reason to believe Sparano is an upgrade. Those are the facts.
Edited post and this is the best you came up with? Unfortunately the guys making the decisions are making the wrong ones. Also, it looks like McKnight isn't #2 on the depth chart right now. Greene isn't even a top 10 back and with a crap line, even if he were a top 5 back he wouldn't produce like one. So having such a player on your roster is fruitless. He does have value, but he is expendable in a trade situation. Edit: The same rationale applies to Keller. The Jets have to use him to help block and the guy isn't a blocking TE. It's unfortunately a deliberate misapplication of his skill set, he's also expendable if he has to be used this way because he's ineffective.
They are the starting WRs, so yes. Holmes isn't a guy you have to stand in the pocket for four seconds waiting for him to get downfield on a deep route. You can hit him with a slant and if he has a lane he's either gone or close to it. In my opinion we got away from that last year, forcing the ball to Plaxico too often.
I remember the O struggled during the 2002 preseason it carried over into the regular season same for 2005 the O looked like @ss during preseason. Back then I didn't think preseason mattered. I feel differently now we'll see if the 2012 Jets buck the trend.
0 points in pre-season and NO improvements from where we left off last year. I say this offense SUCKS.
