I'm not kidding. The Jets for years have been acquiring first round talent and bringing in high profile free agents for the offense. They've had problems keeping them together but they've made an effort at just about every position over the last 6 years at some point or another. One thing the Jets didn't do was be passive about acquiring talent on both sides of the ball. Schotty had many opportunities to work with a lot of high grade talent and for the most part he still underachieved. It took a legend of a QB for the offense to have its best year in his system, which was dumbed down and included a lot of what he was used to already.
Heck, I'd take average. An average offense paired with our good defense would produce more wins than losses this season.
Take a look at how the Rams looked last night compared to how we looked with Tony Sparano. I'm not a fan of Shotty but the guy wasn't the problem here and our drafts have kind of sucked since we got rid of Mangini.
 2 preseason games in and we already know our full capabilities on offense? Can't YOU just admit that we have injuries, and you can't judge our performance in this game against one of the better D's in football?
Look at how the Rams looked two weeks ago. You claim I'm cherry picking and speaking garbage concerning events that actually happened but then you use a single preseason game to justify your position? I'm basing my position on six years of Schotty. It's too early to tell how Sparano will be. I'd like to give him a chance before throwing myself off the deep end. What I'm about to say has nothing to do with you Biggs. I just feel too many people around here give up at the first hint of trouble. There's very little in the way of fortitude and faith in these parts. The Jets have been mostly good for the past couple of years and have a good core and a good head coach. In general I think people need to have more faith and let things play out. The overreactions occurring right now will be a flash in the pan by the time the season is over.
I agree with this. Rex is our greatest asset and during the pre-season he and his staff aren't scheming and preparing the way they do in the season. We've had a lot of games where our offense struggles for a few series and then gets it going, when they only play a few series a couple bad plays ends the night for them. The D has the potential to keep us in most games, we have to see how it all works. Once more, until I see our best players all on the field, Tebow in the Brad Smith role, I'm going to reserve judgement in most areas. I do think Hunter/RT is a huge concern that can really kill us if not fixed, but it's August 20.
the chargers a few years back had the #1 offense and #1 defense and yet they didn't make the playoffs. all of us would take an ugly win instead of a playing well but losing. as long as they don't make stupid mistakes and pay attention to detail they should AT MOST be an average offensive team. they will mostly win on defense and on special teams. field position and turnovers is key because this team won't move the ball all that well. both come from defense and special teams. the offense should be relatively good in the redzone/goal line with tebow and hill/turner using their height in jump ball opportunities. of course all that depends on sanchez and the whole offense could crumble with WFH!!
How bad does our offense look after two, yes two, pre-season games? So bad that folks here are debating Schottenheimer's merits. Really? It appears the Jets have to make some changes to even get back to ordinary. I hate to say it, but Sanchez won't make it thru mid-season if they don't do something about Hunter. Even if he manages to stay healthy, fans are gonna be screaming for Tebow if we're under .500 at mid-year. God's plan...
I'm not panicking yet. First, let our offensive starters get out there, including Holmes, Kerley, & Schilens. Something we have not had yet. Wayne Hunter is not very good to begin with, now add he was coming off a back injury and playing his first game in over 6 months against the best D-line in the NFL. Let him heal up some and get his feet under him so he can get back to his poor level of play. Jeeez. And stop blaming Rex for not replacing WFH. Personnel is the sole responsibility of Tanny, not Rex. The 2 moves left after teams start making cuts is RT, blocking TE, and possibly a vet RB, although I think we'll be fine at RB if the first two are fixed.
You can't use the word dominant then watch that D choke in big spos time after time. They did it a lot in 2009 too. It's kind of a habit. Obviously the D drives this team and we dn't have an O that can carry the team all season but our o is much better than it was given credit for(at least a bunch of those years). 2006-2008 our best playmaker was a 3rd down back/KR, 2009 our best playmakler was a guy who had suspect hands, '10 and '11 it was a guy who missed 4 games in '10 and a guy who was moody in '11. We haven't had incredible talent on O and I think overall our O's have done a good enough job. 16 years in one system, you can't expect a guy to adjust that quickly w/ a one to go especially for a team he didn't want to play for. In 2009 he went back to a familiar system and the team he wanted to play for and we saw the results. what about how the Rams looked this week or it only counts when they suck?
Not to mention Favre wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed to begin with. Remember all the bonehead, season-killing decisions he made in his prime in Green Bay, then take him out of his comfort zone.
Jets offensive rankings from 2006 to 2011 YPG: 25, 26, 16, 20, 11, 25 PPG: 18, 25, 9, 17, 13, 13 Seriously, anybody who says Mark Sanchez was the problem in any year but 2009 just isn't looking at the numbers. The Jets offense was average to below average every year Schotty had them except for 2008 and 2010.
The Jets havent had a good offense(passing game) since Bradway has been employeed here. The last real vertical passing game this team had was in 2000 and Vinny couldnt stop throwing picks. It really is unbelievable how the Jets, in a league that encourages throwing the ball down the field, havent been able to do it.
That's not true, the 2002 pass O was much better than 2000. '04 it started out well but struggled w/o a healthy Chad. Most of our struggles under TB were when Chad went down w/ an injury.
The Chad offense was the WCO, always under center and take shots when you could off of playaction. It wasnt a vertical offense at all. Pennington didnt have the arm strengh to be a down the field passer.
Getting the receivers back isn't helping WFH block. Sanchez throwing to Holmes 5- 10 yds down field as Mr. check-down charlie typically does isn't backing off a defense putting 8 in the box. You could put Larry Fitzgerald on one side and Megatron on the other and it won't matter if Sanchez isn't given enough time. Happy feet will prevail and he'll dump the ball to the nearest receiver.
This is correct. Chad used to complete 2 or 3 long passes a year, generally deep routes up the seams because he couldn't throw deep up the sidelines.
And my Bradway point was the guy is somehow still employeed by the Jets. We havent had a legit passing game in over 10 seasons. I mean seriously enough is enough....you watch other teams play and its like watching a different sport. If the Jets running game isnt clicking they struggle to gain 10 yards. its like they try and use all 3 downs to get a first down. Its maddening
