This is a follow up to the thread I posted last week focusing on Ducasse's performance. I'm hoping to be able to do this every week of the preseason to keep track of where he's at.

    • NFL Network cutoff the Jets broadcast at some point under 5 minutes to go so I may have missed Ducasse snaps.
    • Ducasse played the entire 3rd quarter at RG instead of LG. He actually appeared to be more comfortable at RG to me. I wonder if they aren't considering moving on from Moore - hopefully in a trade for a RT? One can dream. If Ducasse keeps impressing I think KurtTheJetsFan may be right that Ducasse could take over at RG. We may see Moore a surprise cut. Highly unlikely, but I'm beginning to think it's an outside possibility.
    • Vlad again looked good, better than last week in fact.
    • They didn't ask him to do any of the 2 level blocks this week that he struggled with last week.
    • He looked good pulling to the outside on two occasions.
    • Our depth on the interior of the line is solid.

    4|6:00|2|10|Pass|Jets 15
    |||||Starts out well in pass pro vs DT then see's LT getting beat inside so he peels off to chip DE inside and leaves his man. He then goes back outside after the DT he vacated and rides him outside. Very nice awaareness to help LT then get back to his guy. Unfortunately 77 couldn't stop his guy even with the help and 15 got sacked.|+
    4|5:32|3|15|Run|Jets 10
    |||||Vlad turns his guy for a seal but doesn't get any push. RB cut back to the left after seeing RT got blown up at the point of attack. Ducasse's guy makes the tackle. I'm giving a minus here because he should have driven the guy off the LOS instead of just sealing but this could easily be a neutral grade as he properly sealed his guy for the play.|-

I watched the game twice and thought Vlad did a very good job as you seem to have stated above. Anybody who declares him a bust now and thinks he hasnt progressed clearly hasnt payed any attention to him thus far.Ive been impressed with him so far and think we have our future RG in place.

Moore didnt seem to play that well... I wouldnt mind seeing a little bit of Vlad vs the ones.

Thanks for doing this. I don't know enough about how the OL works, but would Moore be a servicable RT or is he just not built for that?

I haven't heard Vlad's name at all, so that must be a good sign. Surprising when he has his first full offseason and is practicing for the position he plays he looks good. What a concept

I haven't paid attention to Moore but I've read a few people who have being down on him so far this preseason. It may be time to get rid of him.

The question is which guard would you sign Moore or Slauson?

Ducasse's progression makes me think it may be better to let moore go and sign slauson. Then have Ducasse take over at RG.

Ironically I actually think Ducasse has played better than Kyle Wilson.

i think we should let vlad slauson and moore fight for the two guard spots. i dont feel completely comfortable with our interior line presence either, and i know its not mangold, and i can see slauson doing better than moore. vlad is impressing against the twos, so it might be time to put him with the ones and see if he cant step up. after all, he was part of a line that allowed the least sacks in a season or something like that at umass. and i believe he played in a championship game at umass as well. english isnt his first language, i think if it were he would ahve both been at a bigger program and possibly drafted in the first ruond.

    1. Slauson at least is young, and serviceable. Moore is getting up there in age. Time to cut him loose.

    2. When it comes to OL, you try to move from OUTSIDE -> IN. That is, you can convert OGs out of OTs, not the other way around. Trying Moore at RT has failure written all over it.

    3. Vlad looks like the eventual successor to the RG spot.

Thanks on #2. That explains why you usually have G shifting to C at times and not outside

Let me preface this by saying I hope Vlad is an all pro for the Jets for the next 10 years.

That being said, he was a "project pick" in the second round. Entering his third year in the league with only one left on his rookie contract, we, as Jets fans, are hoping he will be a competent backup this year. Think about that. As a 2nd round pick, we are hoping he can finally be a good backup in his 3rd year.

That's either a bust, or more likely, a very poor second round pick by the organization.

The jets selected him with the intention of developing him. It appears from a small sample size in his first full offseason that he's developing quite well and could be the RG of the future.

I don't like the 2nd round project pick but it appears it's going to be a good project at this point if you ask me. The bust word seems silly.

He's still a bust because you expect your 2nd round pick to be a siginifcant contributor by their 3rd year. The point is that door isn't shut for him to be a contributor either this year or next year.

If things go well he may be starting by next season. I'll give him his credit he's been playing well so far in the pre season.

  14. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.

Vlad has come a long long way. Like you said, the interior depth is solid. With that said Moore has looked slower out of his stance & weaker at the point of attack than in the past.I think Ducasse is the superior run blocker & will at least hold up at the point in the anchor on pass pro.

Problem the Jets have is the issue resides at right tackle. Moore is still functional...with the ugliness we've been seeing from the unit as a whole does it make sense to remove him from the starting line-up? It's a tough call.

I think they should revisit Slauson at RT. He's got the length, he plays w/ good leverage & played both tackle spots in college. You play blindside for Nebraska & I think you can handle RT at the next level.

You insert Vlad at Left guard & you've just upgraded the starting 5.

I think there's an outside shot he starts a RG this year.

It seems very odd that they seemed to have given up on that whole slauson at RT thing so quickly.

We better see SOME kind of change at RT this week.

It honestly cant be worse. Rex has preached this offseason about getting the best 11 players on the field at a time, specifically for defense (with the addition of Coples and use of 4-3), but maybe its time they do so on offense.

At this point Ducasse has shown he is a better player at guard than Hunter is at RT, so if Slauson can even be decent at RT, its a big upgrade.

This team better be “leaving no stone unturned” as Tanny always says and find a solution to this. A few months ago I would’ve laughed at this idea, but I think we all were just reminded of how bad WFH actually is.

Here's a question: Could Wayne Hunter be moved inside?

and have teams move their best pass rushers inside & have an even quicker path to Sanchez? Plus I don't think Hunter can even provide the solid push needed to consistently support an inside run game.

Developed into a backup? That was the strategy in using him as a second round pick?
