You my friend are very misinformed. Jets never had any intention on resigning braylon. Not before the offseason not during the offseason. 1.dwi 2.Club stabbing incident 3. Wrecks car at highspeed No team in their right mind would resign a player after these incidents. He was far to much of a risk. I really like braylon he performed but the truth of the matter was he got way to comfy and made way to many mistakes. I really wish you guys would just shut up about it already he is gone and he will not be back.
I dont agree with how things went down. But how long are you gonna cry over spilled milk? Too bad, so sad, better luck next time
I don't think the Jets wanted to resign edwards. It turns out that was a smart decision since edwards hasn't done squat since he left NYJ. maybe he will bounce back to his 2010 form this season but he has had exactly 1 great season as an NFL WR and that was 5 yrs ago when he was 24. now he has physical problems and legal problems and a possibly a substance abuse / anger management problem. i don't blame any team for not wanting to deal w/that.
Umm...the only reason J-Co (not j-cro as you want to call him) wanted out was because they basically brought in grandpa Mason to replace him (that worked out well, didn't it?). Cotchery felt disrespected because they brought in Plax AND Mason and thought he deserved to be the #2 receiver, maybe #3. If the Jets would've let Holmes go, it could've been JCo and Edwards as the #1 and #2 and they both would've loved to be playing for The Jets. Don't act like J-Co just 'wanted out'. There was a legit reason and it could've all been avoided if it wasn't for Tanny being a moron as always
Who cares what happened in the past two years, we had ANOTHER chance to sign him this year and we didn't. I don't understand why.
I still don't really understand why Tanny let the WR1 go and gave WR1-money to the WR2. Sure, Edwards was a twat off-field, but not on the field nor in the locker room, unlike that other guy.
The club brawl/stabbing actually happened the night after Plaxico was announced to be signed with the Jets. I thought it was before until took a look at the timeline of the reports.
Then again, the Jets gave Holmes a big deal despite (arguably) only having one big season and off the field issues...but two wrongs wouldn't have made a right.
and holmes is a better WR than edwards is. i agree that both of them have behaved like idiots. but holmes is better and has kept himself out of handcuffs and trouble for a few yrs now.
I mean we should of kept all three because if they combination worked for us 2 straight years why get rid of it and try something new. Thats the FO's problem they always mess up a good thing when its rolling . All we needed was to build on that success
Love threads like this. We should have kept the Trouble maker who was injured all last year and a player that asked to leave the Jets. The two of them did not combine for Holmes 650 yards last season. Not every former Jet was an all time great. Someplayers are average here and go on to be average elsewhere. Now that we have some injuries, we should have kept the guys that were injured and unproductive last year! Holy fucking dumbass thread.
What if the Jets would have drafted Tom Brady instead of Tony Scott in the 6th round of the 2000 Draft?
I can't believe some of you are still up in arms over this. If it was up to you you would've given Braylon 8-10 million a year last offseason, even though it was clear nobody wanted him and he was left to sign basically a minimum contract in SF. Then he gets cut midway through a terrible season, proving that contract wasn't even justified. Now he has two catches in a preseason game and all of a sudden the Jets made the wrong move in not bringing him back? Don't you think that the FO would've been willing to throw $1-2 million at him last offseason or this one if there clearly wasn't something wrong we didn't know about?
To be fair, I don't think we should've "kept" Braylon given his injuries in 2011. But we should've signed him again this past offseason.
Don't you see that preseason football is the end all be all of prognostic events. Its a fact that the last 12 superbowl winners all went 4 - 0 in the preseason. If you give up on sack in the preseason your bound to lose 27 regular season games QB's under 9 different QB's. If your defense gives up a first down you may as well just spot them 7 every time to get the ball back faster to try and score. :breakdance:
I agree that we should have kept him before 2011, but that ship has long sailed. I said at the end of 2010 that keeping Bray & Holmes should be top priority. Unfortunately he had a bunch of incidents that made him a liability so they didn't waste the money. It was blatantly obvious we missed him last year. Either way it's too late. We have Schillens and Hill now who are our late Braylon replacements. If one of them steps up this year it will make our season.
I think people see this as a big year for Sanchez. As in he needs to produce or he will be a bust. Sure we drafted 2 WR, but rookie WR's don't do much typically so it's tough to rely on them. I think most fans wanted to sign a depth WR who could help Sanchez. Instead of doing that or improving the line or get a blocking TE we went out and got Tebow. That's what has people upset.
I always would have taken Braylon back. Based on production, he was certainly at Holmes's level, arguably even better. However, there just has to be something more to this. Maybe it's the knee, maybe it's his personality, maybe it's the DUI he had with the team or the other smaller incidents, who knows. You would think a receiver who has already proven to have a rapport with Sanchez, can get down the field, and would come really cheap would have made sense. Clearly, the Jets don't want him back for one or more of those reasons. Other teams didn't seem too interested in him either. If Hill and Schilens stay healthy, we should be fine. There is an element of risk to them. But there is with Braylon, too. Saying "yup, should've kept Braylon Edwards" after he pulled a David Clowney in the preseason, seriously?
When did Braylon ever say he would have taken less money to come back to the Jets. Besides its a wonder that the Jets didn't try to sign him this offseason after his awesome season last year of about 150 yards and then getting cut by a team that was looking for a wide receiver.
Do you even know why Cotchery asked to be released? If you ever knew, apparently you forgot. Read my post above in page 3 and you will be reminded why. To act like J-Co wanted to be released (without good reason) is just ignorant. Hint - they basically brought in grandpa Mason to replace him and had also already signed Plax at that point. They were phasing him out and he felt disrespected. He didn't want to leave before all that BS. Tanny is a moron. Guaranteed if we kept Cotch/Edwards instead of Holmes/Plax/Mason, we would've won more games.
