Exactly what I was thinking. How is that even possible?? Drives me crazy. I'm having nightmares of Demps running backwards towards the endzone and Eric Smith still can't catch him.
Brian Costello @BrianCoz One of Demps' agents. RT @NohemyBaltodano: Jeff Demps has not signed with an nfl team as of yet. Those reports are untrue!
Weird, NFL.com is now reporting that he signed with the Pats but his agents last tweet is still saying it's untrue. ...
We need to sign this guy if it just means keeping him away from the Pats. Tannenbaum would be an idiot not to get this guy since we have NO DYNAMIC RUNNING BACKS in our back field.
Wonder if there is an agreement in place but the i's haven't been dotted and the t's aren't crossed so the agents are trying to squeeze out more $$.
Pretty official. That sucks. Bucs are one thing, Pats is a whole 'nother story. ProFootballTalk @ProFootballTalk Olympic sprinter Jeff Demps picks Patriots over home-state Bucs Florida Gators Now @GatorsNow Jeff Demps Signs With Patriots: Jeff Demps is running to his NFL future — and now we know what team he'll chase ... SportsCenter @SportsCenter #NFL - @Patriots agree to sign Olympic sprinter Jeff Demps (was RB/KR at Florida), according to multiple sources
Olympic medalist Demps opts for Patriots over Bucs Posted: Aug 17, 2012 12:04 PM EDT Updated: Aug 17, 2012 12:04 PM EDT TAMPA (FOX 13) - Olympic silver medalist and former Florida Gator Jeff Demps has agreed to a deal with the New England Patriots, opting against a move to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Fox 13 has learned. Demps' official announcement will come this afternoon. The decision for the former Gator running back and Olympic sprinter came down between the Bucs and Patriots. Demps just felt New England is a better fit. New England is a preseason Super Bowl favorite, giving them an edge over Tampa Bay. The Bucs made a strong push for Demps. They had been in discussions with his representatives for months. Demps is flying back to Orlando after visiting with New England. That's when he will make is announcement. In four years at Florida, Demps had 2,470 career yards rushing and 23 touchdowns. He did not attend any college football senior all-star games or take part in any NFL draft workouts. Demps' sole focus was on the Olympics. He didn't run on the USA's 4x100 team, but did earn a silver medal in London for being part of the team. http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/story/1...iots-over-bucs
Didn't Tebow try to help recruit this guy? Not only did he not want to play with Tim, he went to the Jets biggest rival. Oh well. J/K Seriously though, I'd have been cool with him going anywhere but NE.
Didn't see that coming. I think I guaranteed that he wouldn't sign with the Pats a day or two ago... I don't know where he fits in on the team because now there are 3 speedy/third down backs (Vereen and Woodhead too).
When asked, Tebow said he wouldn't be "recruiting" him. He said "I'll talk to him as a friend." Which was really a deflection of the question. By the way, do you know what the monetary offers from the teams were?
One area where the Patriots really sucked last year (and have through camp and one preseason game this year) is with kick returns. So I'd imagine that's the immediate role they have in mind for this guy. He's on the smaller side, yeah, but these guys can pick up 10 pounds of muscle in no time when it's their job. As other posters have pointed out, he's on-par size-wise with guys like Sproles and Chris Johnson. I don't know if this means that the Danny Woodhead era is over or not though... they'd have Vereen to fill the 3rd down back role if Demps isn't ready.
On Wednesday of this week, BB said he despartely wants to upgrade his KO and punt return teams. Last year Pats were 28th in KO returns. Also, Riddley went down with a leg injury this week. Signing makes alot of sense.
he should upgrade their return game(they never should have gotten rid of Tate who also looked good as WR the other night).
Demps didn't enter the draft because he wanted to pick his team. Your an idiot if you think Tebow was going to determine where he signed even though they are great friends. It's all about the bucks and Tampa had an inside track to sign him but the Pats threw more money at him.
