So again that brings me back to my original point that it's a wash... My main stance is I just don't see how Sanchez could be seen as having a solid camp with numbers like that...I realize stats don't tell the whole story, but those numbers are very substandard (to put it nicely).
You can't reason with homers. If anything they are fighting tooth and nail for Sanchez to be better than Tebow, but they won't compare their starting QB with any other one in the league or else they get depressed.
watch the 2 play, it's clear as day who the better QB is and who the better runner is. tebow will be a good RB for us this year.
If you can find the practice stats for the other 31 starters in the league we can gladly compare them. Unfortunately it seems like only that much attention is paid to the Jets as the beat writers for most other teams know that A) practice is just practice and B) they aren't fishing for controversy.
Yeah I guess you're right FakeSpike facing the 2nd team defense is just as hard as the 1st team D. Tebow and Sanchez are of equal calibre. Lmfao Not to mention no Holmes, Kerley, or Schillens, so the scrub receivers are facing the #1s.
Yes. No doubt Sanchez is better. I completely agree. But I don't understand why you get bent out of shape at stats being posted when you know the truth. I probably could find them, but that is too much work. But I would like to know who, besides the rookie QBs and Blaine Gabbert, you think Sanchez is better than?
Again...if those scrub receivers are forced to play with the #1 Offense, then imagine the scrubs that are playing on the #2 O... It balances out in the end, but it is apparent you are too blind to see that.
It's an argument as old as time itself, and it just goes in a circle. The fact is, you can't go by practice stats anyway. The coaches know what they're running, what they're installing, and what they've just gotten through instructing their players to work in the morning meetings. And they can also see with their own eyes when a player does something wrong (be it the quarterback or receiver or blocker). Three points: 1. This was not a "competition." A competition involves splitting time with the #1's. Sanchez's job was never in jeopardy, or opened up for competition. 2. I'm quite certain Sanchez would look better if there were a "competition." 3. To the extent Tebow would ever be a better option at quarterback than Sanchez, it wouldn't become apparent by asking them to do the same things and watching them. Tebow is a quarterback that you would scheme for differently -- a system of formations and checks that could be wicked to stop. But the good thing we learned (or continued to see) is that Tebow is a competent NFL quarterback dropping back from under center and throwing from the pocket. He can run the same plays Sanchez runs, and be a good backup if needed in that role. The stuff about the wildcat and running the ball - we already knew that.
I actually don't think it's very clear who the better QB is... Neither did much in the 1st preseason game, and neither did much through the air last year either... I've watched both play extensively (not in any practice, but last season in particular)...I can't honestly say that Sanchez has shown himself to be any better at moving the football...Just my opinion though.
These QB numbers are worthless garbage. There is no context to the numbers like down, distance, # of drives, situation, etc. Practice and camp should also be for pushing yourself to get out of your comfort zone a little bit to see what is possible. Maybe a WR tries a different pattern, a QB tries to thread one in, etc just to see what everyone is capable of.
The people that are reporting he has had a solid camp are watching him play instead of stat tracking. They're reporting about things like his decisiveness, zip, footwork, control of the offense and leadership and comparing it to years past. Jumping to any conclusions based on numbers from some practices is stupid.
Well I'm not jumping to any conclusions based on training camp numbers...just thought they reflected more of the same based on 3 years that I have seen with my own eyes... It's what I already know about Sanchez that makes me question the reports coming out of camp...The numbers only support my stance, but do not confirm it... I'm done with the topic though...I don't want to derail the thread anymore than it already is.
Playing quarterback is analogous in one way to being a Major League hitter -- it all comes down to whether there is a "hole" in your swing or in your game. If you've got a pitch or location you can't hit, eventually that pitch drives you out of a job. And quarterbacks are like that -- if you have a certain tendency or inability that is important enough, eventually that makes the difference. Doesn't matter how you "look," or what stats you pile up at times. To me, Sanchez has one "hole," that has appeared at times -- a deficiency in his ability to drive the football for a downfield throw, when under pressure or hurry. He gets pressured and starts too much dink and dunk, or if he does challenge downfield it results in a turnover. That's not a final pronouncement, nor an authoritative one. But that will be what determines whether Sanchez is a franchise quarterback for the next 10 years. Tebow, he's got enough "holes" to address that I could fill a page. He's not at the same place as Sanchez, that's for sure. But he might get to start here or somewhere else before it's over, and I think he'll be better than some people think when that time comes.
You don't write a review for a stage play during rehearsals. You don't judge an offense based on August practices. These QB stat numbers being reported are worthless.
