He could be good as a jet sweep in some wildcat. (Although ideally that jet sweep guy is one who can go out for a pass like Harvin). It's a freaking thing of beauty when it's working, 11 on 11 quarterback runs, zone reads, and just when the defenders start to think they can focus in and stare at the quarterback to figure out what he's doing, you have the fastest guy in the coast sweeping end around.
Here's a jet sweep from the Wildcat when Sparano was coaching the Dolphins. Who would #34 have been at that time?
I could be wrong, but I think he's an unrestricted free agent because he wasn't drafted. There's no way to enforce the "scale" on him because no team has his rights. He goes to the highest bidder. Didn't see this video already posted, but it shows how Demps has football speed, not track speed. He's one-dimensional pretty much. He knows he's fast, so he keeps it simple and just runs fast. What these highlights don't show you is all the plays where there wasn't much there -- he doesn't tend to be good at creating something. But he'll dutifully run it straight ahead as fast as he can, try to get to the open field. It was funny to see how many of these highlights had Tebow in them -- it's a mutually beneficial relationship to have big bruiser and a fast water bug.
Colts come to mind as a landing spot. I just can't see the Jets bringing him in, our backfield is already pretty crowded.
To me, "crowded" means "lots of good backs." Not "filled with the requisite number of players." I think there's plenty of room for him. It'll come down to how much somebody pays him. Why didn't somebody draft this guy? Throw a seventh rounder out there.
Do you see us carrying 5 RBs? If not, who out of Greene, McKnight, Powell and Ganaway would you cut? If you cut Ganaway you are essentially saying you would have drafted Demps in the 6th round.
if he decided to go into the draft with the intention of playing football and not pursuing track, he was projected to go in the middle rounds, so yeah... that could be what the case
I'd bring him in.... Honestly, can anyone tell me with a straight face who is our punt returner for week 1? Kerley? Cromartie? McKnight? Jordan White? If Demps at the very least can impact the game as a PR/KR, than we may have something good. Part of being a great defense and a team that focuses on winning the battle of time posession is to dictate/control the battle of field positioning. Sadly, our punting situation is scary to say the least but if you can train Demps to be a quality special teamer....all of a sudden, you change things up and give your offense a lot more breathing room.
White might be cut because White at this point is fighting to keep his job by offering up punt returns. If Demps beats him to that at punt returning....than well.
not sure about that. The CS is raving about White and our WR core is depleted. Perhaps Schillens, but I can't see the team cutting a WR and not bringing in another WR to replace him. If the guy can play WR then maybe we are onto something.
Holmes/Kerley/Hill/Schillens/Turner 5 WRs though so its a matter of what you hang onto more.....5 RB or 6 WR? White I think can make it to our practice squad....Demps will obviously be gobbled up by someone, if not the Jets.
Why the Jets did not grab Ced Benson is beyond me. I think a big proven 1000 yd bruiser is exactly what they needed. Instead they are recruiting track stars...
