http://thejetsblog.com/uncategorized/aaron-maybin-has-the-worlds-best-metabolism/ I don't know if this is standard procedure but I thought it was a pretty clever idea.
wouldn't it be exhausting to gain and lose weight that quickly? not a good idea. He should just stay around 250/260.
Yeah, that sounds a little dangerous, but if the training staff okayed it, I guess it can't be that bad.
I could understand his metabolism being too fast, and him being able to lose 20 pounds in 3 days But to gain 20 pounds in 3 days... Thats around 70,000 excess calories (and say hes burning 10,000 calories a day) that would be aprox 100,000 calories. Which comes out to somewhere in the ballpark of 40 whole large pizzas But if his metabolism is as fast as theyre saying (ie he can lose 20 pounds in 30 days) youd have to double that number for him to gain 20 pounds in 3 days. Which would be approximately 200,000 calories in 3 days, or the equivalent of eating 25 + WHOLE large pizzas a day for 3 days. Im buying that he has a crazy metabolism, and the Jets could use that to their advantage. But this is absolutely nonsense, I dont care what they say
When people talk about gaining or losing that much weight, they are usually talking about (whether they realize it or not) their lowest weight on one day to their highest weight on another. This usually involves a significant change in water weight, which is natural for someone who sweats as much as an NFL player, and is replenished pretty much as soon as he has had a chance to stop sweating and consume a decent amount of water. I'm no expert, but I highly doubt that 20 lbs is a realistic swing in weight over 3 days if you are strictly talking about muscle and fat.
I know it, 20lbs of muscle/fat def not realistic Im sure its gotta be at minimum 80% water/glycogen reserves, which kind of makes this whole "crazy idea" stupid. I mean why youd want a guy to go play a sport glycogen depleted or dehydrated is beyond me. This isnt boxing or something where you gotta make weight or something
This is probably the worst Jets idea yet. Although it's probably just the Jets feeding the media more garbage.
Dunno about this plan. Obviously I want the Jets to win but not very comfortable with the team encouraging a player to spike his weight up & down like this. Would rather just accept him @ a low weight & just use put him on the field less. Plus, we don't know if this constant back & forth of 20+ pounds in days will mess up Maybin years after he retires. Maybin's career in the NFL will be very small compared to his life after football.
Does this mean if Pouha gets hurt were gonna have Maybin add on 150 pounds in like 2 weeks and play NT ?
goddamn thats a lot of glycogen. whats his body fat percentage? seems a bit hyperbolic to me so im going to assume that hes hovering around 240-245 somewhere and depending on the day he is below or above by a margin of around 5 pounds, which is not too crazy at all. theyll just make sure to pack him an extra lunch the weeks against run heavy teams, or probably just every week.
haha imagine if maybin just became a big fat bastard. it would be hilarious. i wonder how his speed would hold up. hed lose a step or two for sure but hes still got the potential to be very fast for that size.
I don't think this is as bad as many are suggesting. I doubt they would actually have him switching back and forth 20 pounds at any given time. 3 days was probably an exaggeration. It would obviously be done over the course of a week. It wouldn't be like, "here eat 25 pizzas in three days for the next game!" It seems smart, but we have to first hope that he can actually gain the weight back in the first place. He is notorious for being unable to keep it on. If the Jets have figured out his metabolism and learned how to harness its incredible power, then I'm all for it.
Obviously maybin is exaggerating, unless he's including water weight. I don't think it's physically possible to gain or lose 20 pounds in a week, let alone three days (assuming the weighing is being done on a consistent basis, like in the morning).
