i've honestly never encountered a larger group of whiny bitches then jets fans... it's really astonishing.
And I heard this same crap 2 years ago, everyone was gushing over Pool and how good he will be over Rhodes. Now everyone rips Pool. Same story, different player.
Bell is better than Eric Smith, I don't see how this is a debate at all. Only thing Eric Smith does well is hit hard and help out with the running game. I feel much more comfortable knowing that it will be Landry or Bell smacking Gronk, not Eric Smith trying to catch a piggy-back ride. Not to mention Demario Davis, who himself is a decent tackler and has SPEED can help slowdown these TEs. We drafted these guys for a reason. We were 27th against TEs last season, I think with an upgrade at the safety position we move up the charts
Pool actually made some plays in 2010, he didn't do jack shit last season. He regressed like hell. Now he's without a job. Never was a big fan of Pool, but he did make a few plays in 2010 that helped us out. Listen I'm just sick of the bitching, if you think we won't do shit this year, then turn in your jerseys DON'T WATCH SHIT this year. Don't complain on a message board about it. If were getting our asses kicked, you can tell me you told me so, but until then keep the SOJ talk to yourself. btw I just had 1,420 posts heh.
There's more than one way to take away the middle of the field. You can do it with a freak of nature that can handle covering these new breed TE's - but there really aren't many guys that can do that. The Raiders safety may be one of the few who can. You can also take away the middle of the field by generating pressure in the A and B gaps and taking away the passing lanes with some lanky tree trunk arms. The Jets took a kid in the first round who is very well suited to do this. Ellis and Wilkerson can also help in this department. Another way to take away the middle of the field is to lay the wood to receivers as they catch passes over the middle. Landry and Bell can certainly do that. Another way is to have LB'rs with coverage skills roaming the middle - enter Demario Davis. I don't think we'll be great at taking away TE's this year but I do think we've added some weapons to make our defense in the middle much better than last year.
+10000000000000000000000000 all i hear is... but waaahhh waaaaaah wahhhhaa wahhhh...and then rex waaaaah and and and tanny WAAAAAHHHH..he's not even a real GM.....and our offense WAAAAH ...and we aren't any better WAAAHHH
This thread makes me chuckle a little, TBH. Maybe it's because I don't read through all the threads to know most posters are generally pessimistic about 2012, but I thought (before seeing this) that most fans were actually excited for the season. Personally, my only concern is with the OL, but I really liked what I saw from Howard vs. the Bengals and expect him to beat out Hunter if he keeps it up for the rest of the preseason. Obviously our WRs staying healthy is a question mark, but I think the potential to make plays is there, but not even critical if we're to run the football like Rex and Sparano keep talking about. Otherwise, I am ecstatic about our defense, especially what a 2nd year Mo Wilkerson is going to do, and not just against the run, but rushing the passer as well. We know what we have in DeVito and Pouha (presuming he's healthy come week 1) and I think everyone's pumped after Coples' debut. And the rest of the defense will gel because, let's be honest, Rex is the man and we have the best cover CB in the history of the game. Finally, and maybe I'm just guzzling the kool-aid too much, but I honestly believe Mark is beginning to figure it out. In the bits of camp footage I've caught and the little bit of playing time I saw vs. the Bengals, I think he's finally gotten control of his ball placement, which was one of his biggest issues holding him back his first three seasons. And if he's been working with (and listening to) Pennington, then he's hopefully learned that he doesn't have to make every play, every down, but just execute and put the ball in the hands of his play makers. I've bitched Sanchez out as much as anyone the last few seasons, but I'm buying in this year and I think he's finally going to be that player we all envisioned him being when we downright stole that 5th overall from the Browns back in '09. So, yea, I'm f***ing stoked for 2012! :jets:
I have a pretty good record on not declaring the season over until it's over. Honestly, I don't get the disbelief on this at this point. The Jets haven't done what they needed to do to improve the team from last year, and last year wasn't very good. Yeah they may have improved the defense some but earth to Jets fans, as shaky as the defense was last season at times it wasn't the reason the Jets missed the playoffs.
i can't hold a real life conversation with other jet fans, we really are the worst sometimes. the ultimate gloom and doom, the sky is falling fanbase.
If the season hinges on a SB appearance then yeah, its pretty much dead. If the season hinges on being competitive and perhaps a game better than last season, then there's plenty to be optimistic about. There's too much uncertainty surrounding this team to be sure about anything other than they'll show up on Sunday's to play football. Anything else we get will be a bonus.
Some people have seen enough disappointing Jets seasons to know not to get their hopes up. They would rather see it to believe it and be pleasantly surprised, in order to avoid that repetitive disappointment. I'm not one of them, but I'm also not putting my life savings in the Jets' odds to win it all. There's plenty to worry about. But the people who are crushing the Jets' hopes were probably doing the same thing before 2009. There's no way to tell how the chips are going to fall.
It is funny how there is so much pre-season talk, and all of it is worthless and usually wrong. Once the season starts, it will all be forgotten, and we will go week by week as usual.
He said... You...would be an upgrade over Eric Smith. So would fielding 10 guys because you could account for the gaps rather than guessing on the suckitude.
I understand the pessimists... it's not like we're coming off a 13-3 division winning season with a Superbowl appearance and starting this season with what's considered one of the easiest schedule AND in a division that's not competitive. In such a scenario I would be expecting another great and smooth season
The season was dead when we lost to Atlanta in 2009. Season was dead in 10 when we lost 10-9 to the Ravens. Then it died again when we lost 45-3. Then again when we lost 10-6 to the Dolphins. Then again when were down 7-0 to the Colts. Then again when we botched a FG in NE. Way too early to say the season is over. Are there signs saying that making the playoffs is going to be tough, yes. Is there signs saying we are definitely not going to make it, nope.
Not me. And I am not hammering at every aspect of the team either. Clearly, from the status of the current roster and the past draft history, it's obvious that the team lacks vision, philosophy and strategy toward success. The only good thing in the past 5 years is Jets finally have an identity. (Didn't exist in first half of Woody's reign as the owner of the team.)
We don't have schotty, so that is a major fucking upgrade. Also we got Tebow, and that means Mark has to put it in aother gear to stay the starter. I believe we are going to win it all. Get off the ledge. Except you abyzmul, jump.
