Ya know I thought this whole thing was a joke at first because the idea is totally absurd but I'm guessing they are being somewhat serious about it. I don't see how this is a good idea for the team at all.
If this is anymore than Rex/Sparano entertaining Cro's pleas to play WR in practice, and actually trying him out, we're in really bad shape.
what kind of yardage was the play? i cant see him being anywhere near good enough to run routes in the red zone, so im assuming it was some kind of fly or deep post pattern, not enough time to work on anything more complex i would think. like someone said before, hes more likely to get hurt on special teams, so im not that worried about the extra snaps. also to that note, cro has been returning kicks his whole career. he knows what its like getting hit. imagine a defense tryin to cover hill and cro goin deep on either sideline... could be pretty good.
Braylon looked good the other night for SEA. We probably could have underbid Pete Carroll and gotten him for a 1-year, vet minimum or incentive-laden deal. Our experience and depth at the skill positions is nonexistent.
Its not just the skill positions. It's the OL and TEs, neither of which can block at all. The money and draft picks spent on a backup QB for some trick plays should have been used to address the ACTUAL offense. It's very very frustrating.
We need something to jump start this offense. They looked lethargic against Cincy. I think Cro may be a better recvr than DB... What's next? Revis as a running back?
I just can't understand why they didn't want to bring Braylon back. It boggles my mind. Seriously. I understand the reason that they did not replace Hunter (as much as I disagree with it) because there simply wasn't anything all that much better out there. But the WR position is one that CLEARLY is thin, and the only reason I can understand not wanting to keep signing new veteran WRs because of the flux it causes around Sanchez....well here was your shot to sign a good field stretching WR that wouldn't have cost anything AND would have been familiar to Mark. Not to mention that we KNOW he loves Rex and would absolutely bust his butt if he came here and it's where he would be happiest. Once again, I am literally stumped, and I'm a little disappointed in the NY media for not grilling Tannenbaum and Rex about this instead of the endless nauseating Tebow questions.
The only thing that can hold back Cro is Cro. I'd hate to see him get a handful of his own jersey and slow himself down on routs.
While I feel he should yap up and figure out how to not get burned in coverage or Penalized. I hope he Catches some key touchdowns For us and He earns his Contract.
I'm pretty sure it was during red zone drills, so it wasn't a huge yardage play. I've love to see him involved in that type of deep game though, but he's big enough to be useful in the red zone as well.
Why is it bad for us to have our starting CB play WR? So we get our #2 CB to play his postion through a full game and several reps on offense too? So now his injury risk has went up a great margin with both wear and tear as well as him taking hits and having to give them now. In a defensive scheme that is predicated on the CB's and their ability to lock down their receiver.
He's probably not going to play a lot on offense unless there are a lot of injuries and it's an emergency. The Jets have been doing a lot of "cross training" on guys learning a second position this year. Cromartie just gets the most attention for whatever reason. There was a time when everyone played both ways and you didn't have players that just did one thing. Our defense would take a hit without Cromartie but it wouldn't be the end of the world.
