Ian Rapoport @RapSheet Breaking: Olympic silver medalist & ex-Florida star Jeff Demps will play football in 2012, per source. Filed paperwork with @NFL. Ian Rapoport @RapSheet #Florida star Jeff Demps went undrafted after telling teams he'd focus on track. Plans changed. Averaged 5.8 yards per rush as a senior Ian Rapoport @RapSheet Wonder how many teams wish they'd used a 7th on #Gators star Jeff Demps now. Instead, speedster can sign with anyone. Should be interesting I say give the kid a shot. He's FAST and will be cheap.
This is Jets related, how ? And like we really need a running back who is 20 pounds lighter than Woodhead.
fast yes, elusive....not as much. if he gets to open space it is 20 yds, if he gets hit at the line it is 1 yard. Just my opinion of course
I agree completely. He is not a feature running back or even a backup running back. He's more of a gadget player who on the right team used the right way might be successful. I don't know too much about him though so I'm not all that opinionated on the matter.
It's not any team related because he's not on a team yet.....thanks though, thread police. He'd be a good kick returner. McKnight seems to get hurt a lot, and he'd be good depth. I'm not talking starting RB or anything people, jeez. Demps ran for 2,470 yards and 23 touchdowns and averaged 28.8 yards per kickoff return at Florida. He's reportedly been timed at 4.24 in the 40.
from watching him in college if he gets an open hole he will burn you, but breaking tackles doesn't happen. IMO rainey was the better RB of the 2
But he would use up a roster spot. and considering hes 5'7 170~ which is incredibly incredibly incredibly small, that makes him near useless as a running back, and a great chance of him getting killed on special teams. We already have Mcknight/Wilson/Kerley/Cromartie all capable of special teams WHILE actually contributing on the football field. This guy would do nothing, and wont be a jet
He's 5-'9" 185-ish. But whatever, it was just a thought. He'll end up somewhere and based on his speed I think he'll contribute.
He doesn't look like he has the right body type for the NFL. Great for college where players are half the size, but he's far to small to take hits on a consistent basis in the NFL at RB and he's 3-5 inches to do anything but go over the middle at WR ...and I wouldn't want to send him over the middle without fear of him breaking.
That's a bit better, but I keep reading different numbers, 5'7 170, 5'8 180, now 5'9 185? What is it?
Ok, I found his Olympic bio, which should be the most current. http://www.nbcolympics.com/athletes/athlete=demps-jeffery-1235710/index.html Jeffery Demps Sport: Track & Field Birthdate: 1/8/1990 Birthplace: Winter Garden, FL Residence: Gainesville, FL Ht/Wt: 5'9" / 181 lbs
Looks like this was recorded in the 80's lol. But fwiw I found this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6PQ09oTu-4
Here's 5'9" 180lb Chris Rainey against the Eagles... (As has been noted, Demps is faster than Rainey straight line speed, but perhaps not as shifty.)
pretty much what I remember, if you can open a hole for him he will hurt you, he wont move the pile. Could be dangerous on kick return or 3rd down though...has pretty good hands actually edit: if the jets are serious about doing a read option set he might be worth a second look. He knows how it works and how Teobw runs it
I think he would be a great addition for option football. Although he's light at 181, he is insanely fast and would def gain wait to play football. I would love picking him up.
