I think Tebow can really help this year. I was nevera big fan of him, but I like how he runs the ball. As long as he knows his role. Watching him run the ball today was very nice. He ran it better than our backs. I found myself slapping myself in the head every time he threw the ball though. Mark Sanchez is the starting QB. That has to be known. I think the rest if you guys should start supporting Tim now. He is on our team and it will likely be that way for the rest of the season. You guys can't tell me it wasn't the most exiting parts if the game when he was running.
It's not that bad a thing to understand a situation better, and it didn't mean you were wrong, either. The guy is an amazing football player. This is why the Jets jumped at the chance to get him. It is also why I was scared shitless of the idea of the Pats trading for him. If he is used in the correct fashion, he's unstoppable. You saw him run. You saw him play. He's a machine. But I won't ever like the idea of Tim playing under center. It's unnatural.
It all depends on how he is used. The way he was used tonight was not good. He is not a good QB - doesn't throw well, doesn't read well, doesn't fire the ball out there on time. The runs are helpful to his overall situation, but its still not a great overall package. He is running for daylight giving up on a pass. The yards he gains on his runs, while something, are still less than a fine pass.
You notice he looked a bit awkward taking snaps from directly under center? Almost like he secured the ball then started dropping back. Time is money in the NFL
Yeah I agree but remember there have been exchange problems leading up to the game . Tebow is obviously more comfortable away from the center in the spread but pre season is about working on things just like this. I don't think anyone should look into this game too much either positive or negative for any player ....not yet , that's not the offense that will be installed on opening day, it's just isn't it .
Don't have the game recording to look at yet, and didn't pay attention during the game, but who was the 2nd team center tonight, and is that who Tebow has been taking snaps from in camp ??
Not that it makes him the starter, or anything like that, but Tebow was responsible for more positive yards tonight than Sanchez or McElroy. So you might want to go easy there with the #2 TE talk.
If one guy plays 2 quarters, and the other two play one, I'd hope that Tebow would be responsible for more positive yards than either. Not trying to bash Tebow, as I was more impressed with his running than I thought I'd be, but being responsible for more offense than two guys that he doubled in playing time today isn't really a feat.
I'm breaking it down to yards per play. McElroy attempted 6 passes and was sacked 3 times, for a total of 9 "QB plays". He passed for 49 yards, but had -24 in sack yardage for a net of 25 yards on those 9 plays. That's a net average of 2.778 yards per play. Sanchez also attempted 6 passes, was sacked 2 times and he also rushed 1 time for a total of 9 "QB plays". He passed for 21 yards, but had -16 in sack yardage, along with 4 yards rushing, for a net total of 9 yards on those 9 plays. That's a net avg of 1 yard per play. Tebow attempted 8 passes, was sacked 0 times and he also rushed 4 times for a total of 12 "QB plays". He passed for 27 yards, had 0 in sack yardage, along with 34 yards rushing, for a net total of 61 yards on those 12 plays. That's a net avg of 5.08 yards per play. (I'll go ahead and add the caveats that this doesn't mean squat in relation to Sanchez, or who should be the starter. It's just meant to highlight that Tebow did just fine tonight and to point out how silly Burnz's comment was.)
Of course he did. He had his feet squared but one thigh was shifted back in preparation for the dropback. He's not a pocket QB. But he may be the best football player on the team.
I think thats a little bit of 3 card monty there. Honestly, Tebow did not look good tonight. He led the team on a 36 yard drive capped by a 42 yard FG. The team was unable to get away from the endzone resulting in a blocked punt. And he later threw an INT. Thats 3 points in two quarters. Sure its early, but he didn't look good in the offense and he didn't look good as a QB in general. I hope they have plans for him but I didn't see anything unfurled tonight. I would have liked to see him truck it for a first down on one of those 3rd and 2s.
Breaking it down, all 3 QB's sucked tonight. The fact that they had little help in the effort of sucking just means we're likely in for a long year. 5.08 yards per play is terrible for an NFL QB. Mediocre QB's get 6.5 yards a play. Good ones get 7+ yards a play.
Tthis is the kind of shit that just gets on my nerves. Yes, Tebow ignored the plays that Sparano called and, instead, took it upon himself to send Conner up the middle on 1st and 10, Powell around the left end on 2nd and 7 and Powell up behind left guard on 3rd and 5. Yep, that was all Tebow. Hell, it's even his fault that the punt got blocked.
