Based on nothing more than 1 preseason game, which I realize is about as useful as a poopy flavored lolly pop ... seems like Sparano really wants to use this 2 TE formation a lot. The obvious problem being 2 TE's invites 8 men in the box and OH BY THE WAY neither of our first two TE's can block worth a shit. Maybe Baker can do a better job than Cumberland, I don't know. Hopefully Sparano is smart enough to dump this idea unless we bring in a TE that can push someone around in the running game. If not we're going to be seeing a hell of a lot of 2nd and more than 10 yards. Ground and pound baby. Err ... something.
Last year the Jets tried to go Air Schotty without the personnel to do it. This year they look like they're going to go Ground and Pound without the personnel to do it. Somewhere in here somebody is going to realize that the missing thing in both attempts was the personnel. I hope that somebody is Woody Johnson.
Well Cumberland hasn't played football in almost a year. Hopefully they can get him sorted out. But he got beat badly around the outside on that 3rd down Sanchez sack. Also, maybe someone worth while will get cut loose by another team later in the summer.
I want all 3 of our tight ends off the team next season. Absolutely fucking pathetic I dont care how well DK can catch, enough of this pussy shit @ tight end. If you wanna play TE for a Rex Ryan team man the fuck up and block some shit. If you can catch too all the better Time to be a real ground and pound team, no more of this one foot in the door bullshit
Yeah. 2 TEs. Maybe 3 or 4, too. He doesn't give a shit. I remember in 2009, the first game the Jets played, and lost, to Sparano's Phins... (and this was after Miami crushed Belichick with the unveiling of the Wildcat)... when in his postgame, Sparano expressed a bit of respect for Rex Ryan. 'I think at one point he had 3 safeties out there. 3. I have never seen that.' This is why Sparano is here. Not that 2TEs is special. But that it sets something else up. Rex wanted another guy, a guy who doesn't give a shit. Schotty. He gave more shit than an elephant. The fucking guy is an idiot. We are in a good place.
I hope so? No one, scratch that, most people aren't going to argue about schotty being an incompetent retard. That's pretty much a given. Are you suggesting that this two TE shit show we're showing in preseason is the foundation of grand plan to hit teams with something that doesn't suck in the regular season? Because I don't think anyone is scared at the moment.
It beats being a run heavy team with a TE who couldnt block if his life depended on it. I like DK I think hes a great guy, and a very good receiving tight end. Hes just a terrible fit for a run heavy team. He belongs on a team like the (new) Miami Dolphins
I'm saying that while this 2TE shit may be something we'll need to get used to, that it'll be way easier to get used to that than the 3 pre-snap motion shit that we never got used to. Tony Sparano did some effective stuff when he was with the Cowboys, I have lived here long enough to see it. I don't care how people minimize his existence there. I see some of the things he's doing here, from what he did in Miami, and also in Dallas. As far as the running game goes, anyway. He had a lot to do with the emergence of Marion Barber. And after Sparano left, Barber stopped being the world-beater he was known to be. This guy knows how to build a ground game. He also digs him some slot guys. But the offense isn't what it was with Braylon and Holmes shocking the world. We have to get used to that.
'People' like you make me wonder why there aren't more 'Teach baby football' websites on the internet.
Hasn't come into any year with the same receiving corps in any of his seasons. Especially this one. Keller has been the only constant. How do you develop chemistry like that? DK stays. End of discussion.
Yeah it's not gonna work. Keller is an average blocker at best and Cumberland can't block. Quick! get Matty Mulligan on the line.
Hate to derail the thread with this man's quote. But you cant deny it. The Jets SUCK at developing QB's. Especially this one because of the rotation at WR. Its laughable.
our tight ends are fucking terrible. It's really killing us. Dustin Keller still can't fucking block. My God. Please let him go this offseason and sign a real dual threat. Even Cumberland looked like crap. How the hell do you run a 2 TE set if you don't have 2 working TEs to begin with? *charles barkley voice* turrrible.
Sparano did some effective stuff with the Cowboys when he had tight ends like Jason Witten, Dan Campbell and Anthony Fasano...all good blockers He did effective stuff in Miami when he had...Anthony Fasano I don't think anybody is trying to minimize what he accomplished, but in order to replicate past success you need to have the personnel. I think it is reasonable to have worries when you are taking a coach who has had success using 2 tight end sets and is trying to implement it using pieces that don't fit the past model.
