At the end of the year when they were healthy they clearly were one of the top 2 or 3 teams in football. It was no fluke they won it all even though they had plenty of luck. To win it all you need to be really good and lucky. The Giants healthy were really good. They had a load of 1st and 2nd round picks all over their roster.

So by that logic, do you think the Jets were really good and unlucky?

The logic is the Giants had a better roster on D and had some luck to get in when they also got healthy. The Jets didn't have as good a roster as the Giants on D when healthy last year and the Giants were lucky enough to have a QB who could keep them in the hunt while they got healthy.

They have outdrafted us on D and O. They have outdrafted most of the league over the last several years.

I've always found it interesting how the Giants are able to make these solid draft picks yet never get publicity for them. Do the Maras intentionally keep their drafting/roster management on the down-low as much as possible, or do the Giants simply luck out with making under-the-radar picks that end up being really good?

They have a great front office for sure and the right coach for that team.
    Giants are a great organization.

isn't it crazy that Coughlin was nearly fired twice and they wound up winning SBs those seasons?

No doubt, almost crazy ironic. I admit I like the Giants, I like the quiet way they go about their business and I admire the organization. I might also admire the Pats if I was not a Bills fan... Well actually do admire them, but like them I do not.

Point about the schedule is moot since you can only play who's on your sched, they were 1st in pts allowed. You should know this as the Pasts beat only one team with a winning record but are still pretty good no?

They finished 1st in pts allowed and ypg last year. Its gonna take like 10 stinkers in a row for me to write off that D as long as LeBeau is coordinating it and they have talent anywhere on it. I haven't looked closely at any of their other games but I'm sure they had a good season and are top 5 in this league right now.

We're not talking about them being a good team, we're talking about them being the top defense. I didn't say they suck, I said I'd put them below the other three teams they had on their list as the elite above the rest.

When you are looking at stats and rating teams, then who you play definitely comes into play. I didn't say they didn't deserve to win 12 games. I think their defensive ranking was skewed.

A side note on the Pats. The Chargers, Jets, Raiders, Cowboys, and Eagles all would have been over .500 if they had managed to beat the Pats. So you could say, they kept 5 decent to good teams from being over .500.

Did I imply that we were talking about something other than defense? They gave up the least pts in the league, they're definitely still a top defense. I don't know why you scoffed at their being ranked #4, they could be ranked #1.

    Giants D
    Yds - 27th in NFL
Against the Pass - 29th in NFL
Against the Run - 19th in NFL
Points allowed - 25th in NFL

Stats don't mean everything, but the Jets were a way better D in the regular season. The Giants have the best D-line in the NFL in my opinion, have a top tier QB, and got both hot, healthy and lucky all at the right time. The stars aligned, and with that level of talent, they got it done.

I don't agree that their D personnel is better than the Jets, or that they are a better D though.

Why do you continuously bring up this points against arguement (Jets vs. Pats) when you have been proven many times to be false? The Jets defense gave up less points than the Pats defense. It's a fact that can't be disputed no matter how many times you post. Why you would want to penalize the Jets defense for points given up by the Jets offense is a puzzle to me - unless your a Pats fan trying to put the Jets down?

I was actually complaining that we werent ranked top 6, and that we were lumped into the same category as a ton of scrub teams.

    Rexy deserves better than that.

Actually, you would be wrong. Take away the points off of the Jets turnovers as well as the rest of the team and the Jets defense would jump to #10 in the league in points allowed. Also, according to nfl.com the Pats only gave up one offensive TD and no return TD's.

As long as someone on our defense remembers to keep dropping lit matches into Eric Smith's pants, so he'll run faster, during the games, we'll be ranked first this season.

It's so crazy! No. Wait. Actually, when you think about it, it's not so crazy.

The Giants have a very good Head Coach, they draft very well, and they have an elite QB.

No wonder they've won two Super Bowls in the past five years.

I don't think I made that argument? The Giants healthy have better personal then the Jets and a better D. They weren't healthy, Tuck and Osi were hurt much of the year. When they got healthy they were clearly better. They were fortunate to have a good enough O to carry them for awhile until personal got healthy. Having a top QB with good WR certainly played a huge roll.

The Giants defense is good, but not as good as the Jets. Sorry. People keep saying it but I have yet to see the Giants D perform better than the Jets D in the last 3 years. Admittedly they do have a better pass rush and front 4 at the moment, but their secondary is weak. They barely made the playoffs at 9-7, then got hot at the right time with people that were fresh coming off injuries and hadn't been workhorses all year. In prior years the defense was healthy and they collapsed late season in back to back years. I don't recall the Jets D ever giving up 21 points in 7 minutes to close out a game they had in the bag. Lets see the Giants D perform consistently for a season, then we'll even allow them into the conversation of whose defense is better. Eli carried the team on his back for a large portion of the season.
