It shows that Urban Meyer knew how to abuse a college defense with a great COLLEGE qb. Not an NFL qb against an NFL defense. I believe in Tebow, but using college stats as any kind of true reading of how good a player can be is ridiculous. There's a good reason that NFL scouts hit and miss on players all the time. Tebow should, and most likely will, go down as one of the greatest college players of all time. Doesn't mean shit in the pros. I agree with you on a lot of stuff, just not this.
You guys keep making the assumption that if someone mentions college greatness, they are automatically saying that equals NFL greatness. Most of the time Tebow's college performance is brought up is to make a different point. Regardless, your argument is silly. NFL drafts are based off college performance. There is no guarantee that a player will succeed at any position. BTW, when talking about college, as NY Dork was, mentioning Tebow and the greats in the same sentence is not foolish. In fact, Tebow is arguably the greatest college player of all time, not just QB. Manning is not in that conversation.
Oh my bad, didn't realize this was the "Greatest College Player" thread, for some reason I was under the impression this was an NFL discussion of an NFL player. You won't find many people that would argue that Tebow was great in college, that's not what is being debated. You keep saying that Tebow's passing stats from college prove that he can pass. So do then Brad Smith's numbers, glad he made it as an NFL qb... Or better yet, Tim Couch. You know, that guy that took the Heisman and then flopped hard in the league.
Well you are more forgiving than me then. People are what they are. As far as my character goes, don't worry about that much... I was rasied by good people to be a good human, which I am. Sorry you buy into the "hate" is bad group. See I think hate is a normal human emotion that is fine as long as it doesnt cause you to harm another human. I hate lost of things and I am happy as a clam.
And I am sure Manning cries himself to sleep every night, with his multiple MVP's, and Super Bowl trophy surrounded by the Millions he has made. Truth is Tebow won more but Manning was the better QB. Pretty much been proven as he is easily a top 3 QB to EVER play the game. Tebow was surrounded by NFL talent on both sides of the ball, as someone pointed out 5 of his WR/TE went on to the NFL which means he had some of the best guys to throw to, which made his job a little easier. I bet Manning didnt have one WR/TE make the NFL. As somene said Kellen Moore should end up being the greatest QB ever to play the game...except he wont be. Being the best college QB is like being the smartest kid in the remedial class math class. Big deal. When you play at the highest level and succeed then you have something.
That's like saying a 15 year old runs faster than a two year old, therefore the two year old is slow and will never be as fast as the 15 year old. You can't compare the two NFL careers because Tebow has not been around long enough. And not that I think he will be, but how do you know Kellen Moore will not end up being the greatest QB ever? Brady was a 6th round pick who only got a real shot because Bledsoe got hurt. Are you psychic?
No, I have eyes and live in the real world. Moore is too short, slow and has a sub par arm to be of any good. I saw him play in person a couple of times and think of him as the anti-tebow. All brains no physical ability.
So you predicted Brady being a HOFer? Brees (who is a whopping 6'0" giant)? Did you predict Jamarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf as busts? Point is you don't know. Neither do GMs or coaches. It's a gamble.
Brady - No. I didnt watch enough football back then to really say either way. Russell - abso-f'ing-lutely!!! That guy was BUST before he signed the deal. Everything pointed to him sucking, lazy, arrogant, selfish and on and on. Leaf - No. Again before I really started watching a lot of football, but I know I would have taken Manning regardless. If you ever watched Manning play in college you knew he had "it" and even if he struggled at first he would find his groove eventually.
Pffft, Leaf showed just as much as Manning in college. His problem wasn't that he was a bad QB, it was that he was a volatile, immature asshole who self imploded
which there were rumblings of not only in High School but college as well. Immature was a word thrown around leaf his whole life.
That has nothing to do with what you said, which was that you would have taken Manning because he had "it". So did Ryan Leaf. Unfortunately for Leaf, while he had "it", he also had some serious baggage.
And to add to your statement... the overarching point is that people who are paid millions of dollars to evaluate talent based on X or Y arbitrary statistic quite often get it wrong. More often they are wrong than right. There are many QB "busts" who had perfect mechanics and supposedly read defenses well, or ran pro style offenses. There are several examples of guys who were not expected to do well who became elite. Tebow is too early in his career to write him off, considering the success he's had and the upside.
expanding on that he is also a guy who has proven he can win games in a pinch, which is better than you can say about many backup QB. The "circus" that he brings will die away after a year of not starting, and isn't nearly as bad as people make it seem. 9,000 people at a scrimmage does not constitute a cirucs IMO. For comparison sake over 40,000 showed up to denvers scrimmage
I always believed in Coach Fox's offense last year. It was almost identical to the one we ran at Florida. I thank him for being there for our amazing run last year in Denver.
You must have a shitty and boring life to spend the time to start an account just to troll a forum. Good fail though, I've seen worse but not many my friend.
Come on guys let's get real. Brady was the exception not the rule most starting Qbs in the NFL were drafted in the first or second round. You can make all the excuses you want Tebow is young it was Fox's offense it was the recievers drops yada yada yada. The fact remains is that Tebow has not improved at a rate he needs for a third year Qb . His strengths are running and his passing is showing no sign of improvement. He will help the Jets this year the kid is a heck of a ball player a good leader and handles pressure very well. Go Jets
We won't know if he had made improvements until we see a body of work throughout the season. I don't believe we will, but have seen reports that his read have gotten marginally better so far. At this point with the job that he has here, we may never know. As you said, heck of a runner, good under pressure, let's see what his career holds. I don't think they are all excuses that the folks are saying. The broncos ran a lot of two receiver sets with go routes. That can be hard to pass against defenses that would simply run a cover two. It opened in the fourth quarters a lot when Denver ran a 3 and 4 reciever set to counter the cover two. They may have been why he was better in the fourth quarter as they spread it out more.
Why can't Tebow be an exception? Vick didn't get really good at throwing from the pocket until after his suspension. Tebow is a QB with two seasons, not three in the NFL. He has one year starting. He has not had three years in the NFL. Explanations are not excuses.
