Great job by Parnell - comes in in the bottom of the 9th with a 6-1 lead and gives up a home run, a double, and a walk to the first 4 batters. Now Francisco comes in for the first time in weeks to try to save it. I wouldn't get my hopes up about getting your second career win, Hefner.

Francisco throws 2 pitches, gets the 6-6-3 DP and the Mets win. Mets 6-4 on the road trip, with one more game tomorrow.

At this rate Wright might not finish above .300 - he's hitting .275 since May 24th, and .233 since the All-Star break.

You knew he wasn't gonna hit .400 but after the start he had you certainly thought he had a shot at a batting title.

I've been so enthralled with the Olympics I haven't really given the Mets my full attention. I'm also trying to delay thinking about the Jets. Not feeling very optimistic about this season.

That's basically me as well, I've glanced at scores but haven't gone out of my way to see them . I got Olympic fever and have no intention of finding a cure.

Garrett Olson fits nicely with this team.

Finally a good game at home for the Mets (first home win in 33 days). Mets win 6-1, as Dickey pitches a complete game with 10 Ks and no walks to go to 15-3. Wright with 2 hits, Torres with a double, triple, and HR, and Reyes' 26-game hitting streak was snapped. He also lost a pop fly in the sun that led to the Mets taking the lead.

is it a coincidence that baxter went out and bay came back and the mets went into a free fall?

they really need to get him out of town just so everyone doesnt see a guy who has fallen so hard from being a decent player. he is a bad omen at this point.

I know it really doesn't matter at this point, but Niese dominates for 8 innings, leaves with a 6-1 lead, and then Edgin and Francisco come in and are a joke - 2 walks and a HBP for Edgin, two walks and a double for Francisco - before Rauch finally gets the third out. What a joke, and Alderson should be ashamed of himself for putting together a bullpen this historically bad.

Mets claimed Kelly Shoppach off waivers.

Why? The team sucks, he sucks. Perfect fit I guess.

He is significantly better than Nickeas and has experience catching knuckleballs, and their giving up Beato, who was so bad he couldn't stay in the majors more than four innings or so this year, when they desperately needed bullpen help. If they can't resign him to back-up next year the trade will be a wash, if they do resign him he'll be a cheap upgrade over what they have now.

In less awful news, though, Harvey threw a perfect game into the fifth, and still looks like he's going strong. If he can build upon this next year, the Mets rotation next year might be better than respectable, which is exciting.

Yes, but then there's the bullpen. Francisco comes in for the bottom of the 9th with an 8-1 lead. 28 pitches and 7 batters later, it's 8-4 with men on second and third. Ruach comes in and once again picks up a save thanks to Francisco's gross incompetence.
