Let's say the Jets are 4-7 or 2-5 etc and they decide to go with Tebow and he duplicates what he did in Denver and leads the Jets to the playoffs or at the very least a respectable record. What do the front office do with Sanchez? Do they cut him? Trade him? Or keep him around for a qb competition the next season?
Sanchez doesnt get cut before the 2015 season. Either he plays or gets traded. Tebow isnt a starting QB so this argument is pointless.
His contract is guaranteed for next season, more than likely they would have to trade Sanchez because you can't have that type of situation within the locker room. You can't cut him because you guaranteed his contract for next year. This would be the worst situation the Jets could get into, everyone is tied to this off-season acquisition, and could make players like Holmes even unhappier. Sanchez won't get benched for Tebow though.
I don't think the question is ridiculous. It's an interesting topic to discuss although the scenario, in all likelihood, will never happen.
it was amusing last year reading this board before the bronco's game about how this jets team would steam roll over them and the jets/rex's D would easily handle tebow. my my how a year's reflection changes things for some. tebow still is not an nfl qb and if sanchez faulters, the jets will be looking for their new franchise qb again. although sanchez will be back with the jets next season no matter. he's not tradable because teams don't pay backups $10 million, so he'll be back.
Not going to happen. If it did, you trade Sanchez becuase he would be tradeable. Or you trade Tebow at a high selling price and try to hit a QB in the draft. Most likely though, you keep Sanchez and he outplays Tebow in practice (Tebow has always struggled practicing) and Sanchez probably wins the job. I'm sure you could find one poster back then who said Tebow was going to beat us and we were going to lose. Actually knowing the Jets fanbase you could probably find a lot of poster who thought so. In fact a lot of us were worried because we were going Sunday night to Thursday night game, something unheard of it. A lot of poster were very afraid of the game and I remember the loss after 45-3 to the Dolphin being accompanied to to what was going to happen in the Denver game. The fact is people thought Tebow was a bad QB then and people still think Tebow is a bad QB now.
Sanchez contract is guaranteed until the 2014 off season. He's not getting cut if he struggles. The only way Tebow starts is with a Sanchez injury.
I agree... They could be 6-1 and if the wins are coming from Tebow exceeding expectations in the wc, they could still make a swap. They could also be 1-6 and not make a swap if the losses aren't on Mark. And with the lack of running back depth, shotty O-line and total lack of a receiver outside of the recently hurt santonio... I doubt people will point to Sanchez as the reason they've lost. The only way Tebow gets in is if Mark STRUGGLES big time, gets hurt, or if Tebow outplays him (doubtful)
Okay for the sake of argument Let's say Sanchez goes down early and is replaced by Tebow who leads us to the playoffs with play similar that he had in Denver. What do you do then?
Lol at thinking bad play is the only reason Mark would get benched. If Mark is playing well and yet the team is struggling we'll see the team get under pressure to start Tebow.
Considering the Jets difficult schedule early on, this isn't a crazy question. If the Jets and Sanchez get off to a poor start, the pressure from fans and media to start Tebow will become excruciating. Hopefully, the Jets and Mark get out of the gate fast and can coast a little down the stretch with the easier schedule.
most likely the Jets would lure Sanchez into the facility late at night under the guise of an emergency meeting. by the time he got the question asked "why is the meeting room completely covered in plastic tarps" the bullet would already have tunneled through his brain and he would be a lifeless heap on the floor as Rex orders everyone to finish the job. Tanny and Woody would proceed with hacking his body into as few pieces as possible, and his remains would be buried in the garbage dump or the meat stripped clean and sent to China for dog food. Tebowmania would be so great nobody would even notice he was missing. as they say, it is those closest to you that have to do the job when it is called upon.
completely agree, just wanted to get back to the OPs topic rather than the "that won't happen" responses. ps that won't happen
There is only one coach in the NFL who likes Sanchez more then our front office. If Vick takes another injury this year that keeps him off the field for multiple games and Sanchez doesnt make a solid progression id expect there to be some talk between the Eagles and Jets in order to move Sanchez to Philly next season Before i get flammed im really hoping Sanchez makes the leap this year,
I think Sanchez is going to be fine. I wonder how much people are expecting from him given the fact that he has a below average receiving corps. I'm not expecting much more than competent ball control offense. If he can cut down on the INTs that will be huge. Tebow is going to run wildcat packages, he's not here to usurp Sanchez. I think Sanchez is probably going to have an excellent season -if somebody steps up in the receiver corps.
Maybe I have a different view on things because personally I don't think it really matters to me who is leading the offense. I do like Sanchez and think we've given him a raw deal by not giving him a good group of WR's and then giving him Wayne Hunter but as long as the team is winning I don't care if Ansel Adams was the dam QB. I want a SB , I root for the team not the player and if Tebow wins games I don't really care how he does, the same goes for Sanchez. To me the worst case scenario is they both suck... then we're fucked but if Sanchez isn't good and Tebow gets us to the playoffs then I'm not going to complain.
