That's great news...but ruined the surprise.

I don't think Nicks effort or dedication has every been in question, no reason for him to not miss a couple of days to watch his sister.

He's making the right decision. Mangold will spend many years being a dominant C in the NFL. His sister has only one .... maybe two chances in her entire lifetime to pursue the dream of a gold medal.

Anyway, training camp just started and he's only going MIA couple days. There's no way his absence is long enough to bring negative effects to anything Jets are doing.

I heard on ESPN (yes, taken with a grain of salt) that her performance at this Olympics has been a surprise. She was not supposed to be "competitive" until the 2016 olympics. Go Mangolds! And go USA!

He totally should go. And everyone on the team has his back I'm sure. They are all athletes and understand what the Olympics mean to an athlete. And Rex obviously is very much a family guy so he gets it.

Besides, Mangold could take a month off and still dominate.

No kidding. What's he missing anyway? A scrimmage, a day off on Sunday, and getting ready to play for 3 series against the Bengals? Who gives a shit. Go Holly!

Go Holly!! Agreed...besides, look at the positives (other than the obvious Olympic experience)...this gives some other lineman extra practice for our depth! ;-)

    Go U.S.A!!!!!!!

This makes me happy. I was actually worried that he wouldn't be there, even though it's irrational for a fan to feel that way. She seems like a great girl.

Cool how Rex and his teammates got him to go and watch her. Football is first to a lot of fans, but the players have their own lives too.

Definately the right thing to do and the coaches can look at what cover we have if Nick get injured this season.

    Not really.

I had hassled him a bit about on twitter when the story first broke, as I'm sure many others did.

It's not like he's struggling to make the team....I've wondered if he played it out to avoid looking like a prima donna

He has acted publicly like she embarrasses him, actually. Going back to when she played center on the HS football team.

It's a personal, not like he is a prima donna. He if as far from that as you can get. It's nice to see that he is supporting his little sister.

Glad he's going to see his sister compete.

The absence of Mangold from TC for a few days is no big deal, at all.

Get over it. He is the wrong guy to criticize
He is going with the coaching blessings with no harm to the team

I actually think this is a good thing. It will give Slauson and Ducasse more reps at different line positions. Mangold's a beast, I don't think he'll miss much. Now I really need to see how Slauson at center works out in practice.
