Brady doesn't make NE's OL look good, they do that pretty much by themselves. They pretty much keep Brady spotless and unhurried all game long even when he takes forever to find somebody open. When the OL couldn't keep the pass rushers off Brady, the Pats didn't win, including the Super Bowl.
If the Jets start the season with Hunter at tackle it will be a major failure by Tannenbaum and this management team
I have to disagree here. Brady's understanding of their offense is unmatched, he also has cohesion with his receivers. This allows him to get ride of the ball extremely fast (like Marino, Peyton, Jim Kelly, Rodgers). This makes the offensive line look better than it actually is.
We could definitely bring him back in -- we have nothing to lose, though if he can't play this season it's not worth it.
Id say a vet min contract is worth it even if he cant play this season. That way he could compete to be the starting RT (which we still need) next year, while having a year rehabbing/training/learning from the team.
I think you'll get your chance because in all likelihood, the Panthers are going to release him at some point before the season starts. You can Barrett him, like the Pats did with the Giant's TE. Sign him. Put him on PUP and try to get him in shape. If he doesn't heal, IR him and hope he is ready for next season. If he can make it back its like an extra first round pick at the cost of about a "mere" half million dollar vet minimum. That would be the "smart" move.....AND you keep the 7th round pick
BTW- if the Otah trade is off and the Jets get back their 7th round pick, did anyone hear about Murphy being sent back to Oakland? IIRC it was the Jets 7th round pick that Carolina used to get him from Oakland. I haven't read anything about what will happen to him. It seems like the trade has remained. I just don't know how. Can anyone clarify?
I'd like to see him get a second chance but when the beat writers were saying this... ...then I'm worried that his heart isn't in it.
The trades aren't related. Carolina sent their own 7th rounder to OAK. You can't trade a conditional pick.
Carolina cuts Otah. Carolina announced that they have terminates Otah’s contract, ending the Panthers tenure of the 19th overall pick of the 2008 Draft. No one ever doubted Otah’s ability to play right tackle at a high level when he was healthy, but the problem was that he was never able to stay healthy. He missed all of the 2010 season and played just four games last year because of back and knee issues." - Profootballtalk Why not sign him to a 1 yr incentive laden contract. Let our trainers and medical people work with him.
why even give him an incentive laden deal? why not give him $25 million? you offer him the minimum you can offer because that is all he has proven he is worth.
Because ... he can't pass a physical ... he would take up a roster spot for somebody else ... he would take up cap space if put on the PUP ... he would be no help this coming year ...
If the guy can't even pass his goddamn physical, then why in the world is it in their interest to bring him back? I know Hunter is bad, but I'm guessing he could pass a physical.
