In your opinion, what have been the Jets' failures as an organization over the last 40+ years? Bad luck, poor drafting, management, what's your take?
long story on the history, but looking at todays team, i am very frustrated (and the FO and Rex msut be as well) about the almost there players that has been drafted the last 3 years. It would be a totally different story on this board if 2 of them were an undisputed success. Sanchez Greene Ducasse Wilson Wilkerson (maybe unfair but still) Ellis Powell McKnight They are alll ok picks that could change the destiny for RR. Before you start moaning about giving them time, I am not saying they are bad, they just all feel 10% off.
A little of each, tight purse strings could be added along with a tough conference over the years. Pitt, Mia, Buff, Indy, Oak, Denver and NE all having very good teams for a string of time. On the bright side, if the trend continues...we're due for a string.
Of late, the team has not made it's football decisions with the football field in mind. Not just talking Tebow. They're chasing an image instead of creating one by the default of winning consistantly.
As a Bills fan I can relate. I think the main thing you need without question is solid Front Office and then good coaching leadership. Guys who know how to do it right without ownership messing around. When I look at the Bills SB years, we had Bill Polian and Marv Levy, no nonsense foot ball men and leaders. Since then... not so much and it shows. Look at the Pats, as much as well all hate BB, he is a sound leader. Look at the 49ers in the heyday, strong FO and coaching leadership. How about the long term success that is the Steelers. Never without solid leadership. Look at the Packers today, rock solid leadership across the board. Now lets look at the long list of ridiculous coaches and GM's the Bills, Jets and Lions have thrown at us. Nah, let's not...they have more or less sucked with you guys having a few exceptions along the way. I will admit I think the Bills finally have good men who are leaders in Nix and Gailey. I am hopeful the results will start to show. You guys have had some success recently when Rex came in filled a leadership void in NY. Was he always genuine or trying to inspire, I do not know. True leadership lasts longer than 3-4 years so the jury is still out on Rex and Tannenbaum IMO. I heard Joe Philbin the other day say this on a radio show "The number one rule of coaching it to always be who you are at all times." Many coaches have a "coach face" ...does not last. The schtick always wears out.
Well that's going out on a limb considering he's yet to even take an exhibition snap. I'd let the jury deliberate on that decision for a little while.
Bad luck- Peyton Manning being willing to play for the Jets but Parcells being stubborn by not promising to take him first overall. Peyton would have given us a stable franchise qb for the first time since Nameth. Bad drafting- taking the tight end over Warren Sapp. Poor coaching- Rich Kotite It's a combination of a lot of things.
Not really, he's proven he is a solid football player. He can throw good enough for what we'll use him as. He can run as good as anyone else we have, he can run block (something we lacked) if he can catch out of the backfield, that would be huge for us. ST may be a bonus if he works out there. Other than the media driven controversy, I don't see the downside. The kids a player.
And when we have been good since 1969...it's been horrible,...almost like god interferes in our games type of bad luck. While teams like the Giants and Patriots get luck like we never dream of. Steelers have been good but gotten plenty of luck as well (doug brien game, colts playoff game, immaculate reception, Seahawks Super Bowl officiating etc) we never get that sort of luck
No home field advantage. The Jets were never allowed to fully use Shea whenever the Mets were still playing. Then moving across the city, away from the natural fanbase and into the Giant's home stadium. the Jets historically always find a way to lose at least a game or two each season they have no business losing. A real home field might have tipped a bunch of those games the other way. That, and terrible drafting and worse coaching.
Well for one...can we have some pride?! I'm not suggesting that we're on a Pittsburgh,Patriot,Giant, 49er level..but I saw people referring to the Jets on the same level as the Lions. That just is completely inaccurate. The jets have had alot of playoff teams, many great players, & alot of memorable wins. They also have a SB ring which several teams still do not have to this day. The "woe is me" crap makes it easy for the opposition to pounce & make the Jets seem alot worse than they really are. As for why the lack of rings? I think there are a number of reasons depending on the era. The early to mid 70's just had putrid coaching/management, Some of the early to mid 80's teams came close but injuries & late game collapses cost them some potential super bowl runs, The late 80's early 90's meant a return to sub par management/coaching..but since 1997 when parcells came in & rebuilt the whole front office, the team has taken a significant step forward. To me the issue has been lack of continuity & a quick trigger to turnover coaching/players. We're finally starting to see some stability as evident by this team not being blown up this past offseason, despite many on here & the media crying to blow up the roster yet again. That doesn't work in the NFL.
