ive said it a couple times on this board, a rookie rb without a real training camp is almost dead in the water. that being said, we really dont even know what powell can bring to the table for this offense. hopefully he can make some big strides this year and come into his own, which would mean good things for the jets offense.
Im excited to see the progression, or reported progression, of BP. I would love nothing more than for him to be a guy people around the NFL say...who is that #29?
good competition. Whoever picks up blocking assignments and shows decent hands will win the job. I hope Powell can take a step up.
If you watch the film of Powell in college he looks like a 3 down player. He's good between the tackles, can hit the edge w/ speed, has good pad level & is punishing. He's also good in pass pro & is so-so as a reciever. W/ that said, I thought he looked slow to the hole in the limited action he had last year. He also seemed to lack a good first step as well as "Phonebooth vision". Could it have been a confidence issue?Sure. I believe the reason he is pushing Mcknight is his blocking ability. I have a funny feeling Mcknight has not impressed in pass pro drills. Now can Powell offer the same big play ability Mcknight does? I'm not so sure. Powell to me is more of a workhorse. We'll see.

Agree Kurt, he did not look good at all last year (lock-out dosent really help a RB). But after watching some college film again, he does seem to be a nice all around back (not just a 3rd down guy like Joe, who really needs to pick up his pass pro to be a good 3rd down back). Powell could be our #2 back this year; one more week and we get to see these guys in action!
Going off what ive read so far this summer, im just hoping he can be a pass blocking specialist. Anything on top of that is a gift

Can you say not necessarry If people think Holmes is unstable then this locker room would be Chernobyl with Benson. Wed be better off letting him continue to run up bar tabs and run red lights than run the football in NY We need youth, not a former workhorse in the twilight of his career. Gannaway, Greene, Powell, McKnight is an unproven stable. But one with alot of potential. Time for the coaches to have some faith in the scouting department and sstop with the headline grabbing
I worry about the workoad that will be put in SG without a legitimate RB to handle some of the load. All these backups are unproven is all im saying. 2009-2010 we made it deep in the playoffs because of SG.
We will carry 4 rbs. Greene is capable of 200 carries the rest of the carries being shared by the other 3 Besidess I think people keep underestimating how much of an impact the drive blocking scheme could potentially have. Greene will make less reads, the holes will ssimply be there or not. Less thinking. Greene will steamroll front 7s if this OL can revert to a semblance of 09-10 performance. Lol having unprovens is sometimes good. Most peoples rossters are proven. Proven mediocre. Out of the 3 rbs behind greene 1 will emerge as a quality change of pace. 2 if were lucky
Running backs rule #1. !) Protect the football at all costs. McKnight better have cleaned up his fubaliatis. Everyone on offense needs to be mindful and PROTECT the football. Holmes never had a problem with fumbles until he got here, he needs to clean it up too. All these young backs need to practice, concentrate and understand our priority of protecting the football. PROTECT THE FOOTBALL!!!!!!
