How can anyone defend cro or Wilson. Seriously , do people even watch them or just listen to what they wanna hear on ganggreen? Cro can cover one route , the "go" route , thats it. As the article says , hes a terrible tackler. Cant cover anything between the numbers. Hes overpaid big time. As for Wilson , its laughable at best that some are saying hes not a bust.
Cromarite gets a bad rap after his first 4-5 games last season. After that he ranked as one of the top 10-15 corners in the league. It's hard to remember all the good a corner does because when they do good their name isn't called, unless they're Revis. Wilson has also been solid last year, not great, last year. They all do their jobs at an average to above average level with Revis at excellent. The mistake most people make is judging our corners to Revis. We are spoiled that when Revis gives up a catch we all act in shock that he let that happen. Most corners give up catches and big plays, compare most of them to Revis, they all suck. Compare Cro to the rest of the league, he is an above average corner. And in no way is Kyle Wilson a bust. It makes you wonder why Jets fans are so quick to use that word to a player than isn't excellent. A bust is 0 productivity, somebody you can't get anything out of that was regarded very highly, also known as Vernon Gholston.
How we could be ranked #3 and have 2 out of our 3 corners ripped apart by the author is retarded. How the Eagles can be #2 and the author only really talk about their two starting cb's, and that the third is unrecognizable, is a joke. http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/01/12/cornerbacks-a-glance-at-the-2011-numbers/ Revis is the #1 corner, Cromartie #6 when it comes to completion percentage. #6 is pretty damn good when the QB has a strong desire to avoid Revis, and also with our complete lack of a pass rush. Most of our sacks are coverage sacks, I doubt any team comes close to the number we had last year. Wilson was ranked poorly on this list, but when you have two of the best cb's in the league, and no pass rush, the young nickel back is sure to get picked on.
The only thing laughable here is your post. Both Cro and Wilson rate well above average in QB rating against. Cro isn't the best tackler, but he has pretty good coverage skills. Wilson is FAR from a bust. He had a pretty good 2nd yr as a nickel corner. I can't remember him being burnt too many times last year. What games are you watching bro?
Football Outsiders would disagree with all the hate for our CBs... http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2012/best-cornerback-charting-stats-2011 FO charted Cro much higher than people here give him credit for. As for Revis' slippage, they brought up a possible knee injury that limited him the 2nd half of the season. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2012/worst-cornerback-charting-stats-2011 Wilson only shows up on the YAC charting - which is probably inflated by the Cruz play. Plus even FO don't put too much credit in this stat.
Great first post, bro. The Jets secondary is literally the only thing that we are number 1 in. That's it -- don't rip it apart without any facts to back up your opinions.
That's b/c this list was compiled 8 yrs ago before JoJo aquired his first hand gun and was stealing penny candy from the local CVS :breakdance: Nah...I really have no clue why he was not near the top, let alone left off the list.
No doubt this is an elite CB trio if we were keeping track of that sort of thing. Cromartie is a great cover guy & is the defense's best athlete. Sure he's not a great tackler, but that's why he's a #2 and not a #1. The Wilson hate i just don't understand. If you play nickel behind revis/cro you are going to give up completions. It's that simple. He's long, above average speed, good hips & if you remove the Cruz play, is a pretty reliable tackler. In all ways a solid football player. Dominant? No. But above average physically, smart & tough.
Exactly. Cromartie had his few bad games last year, and some were really bad games, ex Raiders. When he muffed that punt return and then gave up a touchdown pass on the very next play I was baffled. Clearly his mistakes were getting to him. He did step it up after that and played great. Our biggest weakness last year in the secondary was safety, certainly not CB.
I tell this to everyone on Patsfans as well: don't read any of the crap on PFF. They have some crazy shit that only gets attention for being flat-out wrong.
I think fans are spoiled to an extent. They see how good Revis is and expects Cromartie to emulate that. Cro gives up big plays here and there but it's not as often as they say it happens.
a little harsh on wilson but to be fair rex did stand there on draft day and say he was the day 1 starter and here we are 3 years later and he still isnt the starter. cromartie is a guy i have a hard time rooting for, he is a flaming cunt of a man and really has no business on a football field because he is such a pussy. however, even though they performed felatio on revis they still under rated him.
Yeah? You wanna explain to me how the NYJ have had a top 5 ypg D since 09 with only one good Cornerback, no passrush, slow linebackers and shitty safeties. Who's doin their job out there? Remember the days of Beasley and Barrett? Smh.
Remember in 2010 when Cromartie filled in for Revis for like 6-7 games? He was pretty important to our success during that time when Revis was hurt. He is definitely being unjustly attacked. He's a #1 CB on at least half NFL teams. He's a 1.5 CB, while Revis is better than a 1.
Honestly, it's really tough to grade a CB trio at this point in the season. I"m hopeful the Giants have a top 5 CB trio, but that requires Terrell Thomas returning to form immediately, Corey Webster maintaining his high level of play, and Prince playing like the talent has was touted to be. The dimeback is going to be a guy like Michael Coe or Justin Tryon; these guys have experience (injuries forced them to play last year) and more talent than your typical #4 CB. Based on what I've seen out of the Jets' starting trio at CB I think it's really hard to say they aren't a top-5 group. Revis is the best CB in the league hands down. Prior to last year there were arguments that could be made in favor of Asomugha, but his up and down season helped clarify how special Revis really is. I think Cromartie is one of the most athletic defensive backs in the league and he matches up well with those "physical freak" type of WRs teams seem to be gravitating towards (Megatron, Fitzgerald, Green, Bryant, etc). I think he struggles when he has to play WRs that are more technicians and use footwork & properly chosen/run option routes to get open. His tackling could use work, but I think his ball skills more than make up for it. I'm pretty sure the Jets agree with sentiment. Wilson is a tough one to assess. I don't recall hearing his name too often, and that's generally a good thing for a CB. It's weird, he's listed as 5'10" but appears shorter than that on the field (to me, anyway). Having said that, he plays like a bigger man. He's got the sand in his pants to stand strong and not get washed away when playing the run. He also seems to be around the ball a lot, so I think he's got good instincts and understands how to bracket in zone coverage/pass of his zone assignments pretty well. The only weakness I see in Wilson is a lack of range for making plays on the ball. Of course, the only experience I have is the 17 seasons of coaching I've accumulated in Madden, so take all that for whatever you think it's worth.
