http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-train...s-sharp-as-defense?module=HP11_content_stream Good press conference here. Rex said that Vlad made some great progress and there will be definitely be a competition at LG. He also mentioned that Slauson might get some reps at RT as well. I like the sound of that. Go VLAD!!!
sounds to me more that Hunter sucks so much ass they would rather have Slauson go at RT and leave a LG competition open. I'm also not sure if this is an indication that the Jets feel Otah won't pass his physical.
Now this looks like something. If indeed Vlad can play at LG better than WFH ever will at RT, then swapping Slauson with WFH is always a winner. Good call there.
Both. I was always bullish on Vlad. He came in raw and had little-to-no camp the last few seasons. He has the strength and athleticism to be an elite OL, just needs the time to mature into the role. As for Hunter, he isn't great but he isn't awful either. Just as Vlad suffered from limited camp, so did Hunter, and compound that with the fact that OL takes the longest time to gel and you get last year's disaster as the result. The fact is that Sanchez and Schotty are as much - if not more - to blame forh is failures last season than anything else.
If Slauson goes to RT there is no LG competition. Unless Slausons gonna play LG and RT at the same time
 I thought we were talking about the oline here, but yeah keep spreading hate for no apparent reason.
QFT. Obviously, if they're looking to move a guard to RT, then yes, Hunter is "as bad as people think." Probably worse. And Hunter has had "a full offseason" and he obviously doesn't look very good. I don't think this move is anything but a desperation move to patch a giant hole at RT that the FO pretended wasn't there in the last 2 off seasons. Slauson is an adequate LG, nothing special. Can he really play RT better than Hunter? That's very debatable because usually guards become guards because of footwork and agility, which OTs need more than OGs. Ducasse isn't better than Slauson at LG (or he would have been playing there already), but he might be able to play LG better than he can RT. At best, the Jets are hoping for a wash at LG and somewhat better play at RT. A hallmark of Tony Sparano's tenure in Miami was his shuffling of OLers around, which is generally considered a bad thing to do. It seems he may be doing the same thing on the Jets. Most experts believe that OLs do best when there's continuity, and that personnel changes should be very limited.
He was an OL coach in Dallas. Does that qualify him as an "expert"? I suppose. Maybe he's just a maverick who will do things "his way" whether his way is successful or not. You will find very few advocates of playing musical chairs with the OL in the NFL, especially among the coaches who are considered successful. The performance of Sparano's OLs in Miami declined every year BTW.
Nice to see Vlad improving and finally being asked to play OG which is where he should always have been. Good OLs don't shuffle personnel. But crap OLs should replace the parts that don't work with better parts. Only a moron will sit pat w/a crap OL and just hope they get better w/time. The NFL don't work that way.
smh... hopefully someone anyone can play rt... its amazing how much people wanting something to happen skews their perspective.
the way i see it, this could mean that vlad is doing well in the new offense, and is possibly better than slauson at some part of the position. because they are trying him out at rt doesnt mean that hunter sucks so bad they are trying anything to replace him, if anything, slauson is getting beat out at lg and they might want to give him a shot at rt because hes been a 2 year starter. maybe vlad is just starting to become the player they had hoped when the jets drafted him.
It's tough to get a real good feel for o-line play without pads and contact, but if Vlad is showing he has the mental part down - that's a huge step.
