Rex mentioned this today and it got me thinking. I know he played WR in highschool a bit and planned to play the position in college before he injured himself...

Do you think using him as a situational WR would be beneficial?

What exactly did Rex mention, that he played WR in high school or that the Jets might actually use him at WR? I don't really see what the point would be of putting him on offense unless they were desperate for help at WR, which they aren't.

I personally think its going to be mostly for Tebow packages and hail marys.

I mean if you got Cromartie out left, Hill out right, Holmes in the Slot, Tebow @ the helm with McKnight in the backfield. Thats just a nightmare to defend against.

You got two tall fast very legit homerun threats on both sides, so you gotta keep your safeties back. Especially since the deepball is Tebows only thing hes good at. Then Holmes in the slot so he can end up anywhere, the threat of an option/short pass to McKnight drawing linebackers then Tebow is just able to run it since you really cant stack the box in that formation.

I think that sounds incredibly difficult to defend against imo. I mean the best bet is probably to just defend the run and hope Tebow throws the ball 40 yards out of bounds, but we all saw what could happen against the Steelers

I think Braylon is done after the Seahawks signed a guy over him that hasn't played since 2009

Braylon is going to get signed by someone, at somepoint this year. And eventually see the field.

Theres no way hes done, considering how the nfl is almost completely just about the passing game

Cromartie is a starter on our defense. He's supposed to use the (albeit short) offensive drives to rest up and get ready to defend some more. I can't see him being a legitimate part of our offense for this reason alone -- he needs to be rested to cover up the 2nd WR; Rex won't sacrifice his CB skills for any substantive WR play.

Thats why I think its going to be Tebow Package related.

You put him out there maybe 2 plays tops on an offensive drive to really make defenses defend that deep threat opening up the run for Tebow

I think Rex is talking about the ability to be flexible ... not sure why you would place a starting corner who is one of the better cbs in the league and part of the best tandem and take potential risks.

This is almost like when the fins would put JT at wr in goal line situations and he even drew PI on a jump ball once lol, except obviously cro could do it better.

Sean Smith played WR in college but he drops too many picks for my liking to play receiver. We could always put Tanneh-- oh wait nevermind

I don't know man unless its due to major injury ...

Think of all the worst wr groups in the league:

    Seattle
    St. Louis
    Miami :(
    Cleveland

and he can't even land in any of those places ... it makes you wonder when the Jets let him go (being productive too) for Plaxico

Same reason Deion was put on the field. The guy is one of the best corners of all time, they put him @ wr because they felt it could win games.

Cromartie has the ability to be one of the scariest deep threats on the field at a time. Obviously hes not a receiver so hes not gonna be polished at route running cuts etc, but he forces defenses to do something specific to stop him. Anytime you can force a team to do something, that gives you an inherent advantage

There has to be a record number of threads in here that end up on the topic of Braylon Edwards. Lol never has a two-year Jet garnered so much fanboy attention like this before.

I get what you're saying, but why would you have Cro playing opposite Hill instead of Chaz? Chaz is taller and faster and already plays WR. If there was a package that had all 3 of them lined up together, that could be interesting, but I don't see any advantage to having Cro out there over either Hill or Chaz.

I don't like the idea of one of my better defensive players playing another position and risking injury.
If he ever got hurt playing offense we'd be ripping Rex a new one for putting him out there.

I understand the interest in being flexible. I understand the concept of gadget plays, and even the concept of making use of Tebow (however limited I think that is and should be).

What I am not sure I get is how gadget plays fit with ground and pound.

Not many Jets have gotten us that close to a superbowl, even fewer have done it in back to back years.

I still remember how nuts I went when Braylon got that 80 yard td against the Colts (in the afccg) and I could of sworn that was it, we were going to the superbowl.

Then he also put the dagger in the Colts next time we made the playoffs.

Theres no doubt Braylon has a special places in Jets history,

Well if you have Tebow @ qb teams are going to stack the box to stop the run.

If you have incredibly tall incredibly fast guys on the outside teams have to back those safeties the hell up, or risk giving up an 40+ yard td.

Which in turn gives Tebow room to run it

He may be the best athlete on the team. If it helps create some mismatches, why not?
