I had no objection to anything you posted except the remark that Otah was a top 10 OT talent. There is simply NOTHING that he's done over his 4 seasons in the league that would lead ANYONE to make that kind of statement. Even when he played 12 and 13 games his first 2 seasons, the best you could say about him was that he was promising, or capable...never was the word "dominant" ever linked to Jeff Otah. So I guess when you made this remark at the end of a perfectly reasonable post to that point, I reacted to it. Sorry.
Quick question. If Otah can't pass the physical by next week, what happens to the pick? I assume it will be returned to the Jets, but there's a problem. The Panthers have shipped that pick already to the Raiders for the WR, Murphy. Does the league have the power to undo that trade too? Or will they just award the Jets another 7th rounder Just curious
I was wondering the same thing. For some reason I'm thinking there was a similar situation recently where the team that no longer had the pick they owed actually had to give up the next best pick they had. So if they owed a 7th but didn't have one they had to give up their latest 6th round (or latest round they had) pick. I'm pretty sure the Jets were involved in that - maybe something to do with the Lito Sheppard trade?
I believe this is the case, because the Murphy trade was announced first, meaning that Carolina didn't have the Jets pick to send to Oakland. So I think Carolina sent theirs to Oakland, and trade Otah to the Jets to get a 7th back.
Makes you wonder even if he does pass next week whether or not he will last until the season starts. Fortunately final cuts are a log way off.
UNBELIEVABLE how nuts people went!!!! Even National media people..... Really? So Car was just giving away Great RT.
In terms of run blocking..there aren't 10 better RT's in this league. He's young, he's massive & he's a powerful drive blocker. He's also an above average pass protector. Nobody is saying he's dominant..but when he is healthy he is no doubt a top 10 RT.
How does that happen? Depending on how bad it is I'd make the trade regardless. Unless it's something that will keep him out the year he's worth the risk of a 7th rd pick.
You don't think the Jets made this trade knowing he wasn't going to pass right away? There's still a week. Either he proves he's motivated enough to pass a physical or he heads back. Don't hurt yourself patting yourself on the back.
Jeff Otah trade now on hold According to ESPN I do not have enough posts for links yet... The New York Jets' trade with the Carolina Panthers for Jeff Otah is on hold after the injury-plagued offensive tackle was placed on the active/physically unable to perform list Wednesday.
