Great move. We didn't give up a player, and the pick is conditional depending on how healthy he is. He won't push Hunter - if he's healthy he starts. If he's only healthy sometimes, then we've at least added depth. Next move: a veteran RB like Benson.
Better to get a deal done in July than try and pick a guy off the streets in late August/Early September. The extra 1-2 months will be huge for Otah as opposed to expecting to plug him in off of free agency. My guess is a 7th that can turn into a 6th pending on how many games Otah plays or how many snaps Otah is in for.
Without any kind of physical or clearance or anything? highly doubt Tanny would just throw away a draft pick like that.
Id bet it goes up to a 4th or so because of his potential (and contract) alone. Obviously a 4th isnt gonna happen unless he ends up staying completely healthy and lands in the probowl or something. In which case Id have absolutely no problems giving that 4th up anyway.
According to La Canfora, its the same round Panthers are giving up a late round pick for the Raiders Louis Murphy. Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora The conditional picks in the Otah and Murphy trades are in the same late round, so its essentially a player swap for Carolina...
We signed Landry even though hes not healthy. Whats so wrong with trading a late CONDITIONAL pick for a guy due to make 1m~ who is capable of being a probowl tackle ? Thats not "throwing it away" its gambling. And its definitely worth the risk
It's a conditional pick and we desperately need to upgrade rt. The pick could be nothing if he doesn't play a game.
This is the best off-season move I've seen yet, we give up nothing basicly and if he work out and stays healthy we can potentialy have one of the best O-lines again, if not we lose very little.
Nice pickup if healthy. He hasn't been for a couple of years. I'm sure that's why thie trade is for conditional picks. If he isn't healthy enough to get out of training camp, it cost the Jets nothing. Low risk, potentially high reward = worth a shot
The fun part will be seeing if we can afford to resign him if he stays healthy and has an awesome year. Also his games missed last year were heavily related to a concussion (week 1) and lower back problems later on. Fortunately for us it wasnt the knee falling apart or anything
I would guess it's a low round pick if he can play, nothing if he can't. If Carolina was convinced he could stay healthy and play at high level, there'd be no trade.
As a Panthers fan, I gotta say I don't know what to think of this move. Not sure he will be missed as much as he should be due to him being so injury prone. Hope Otah has a better and healthier career here than he did with the Panthers. If he stays healthy then its a huge acquistion for the Jets and a huge loss for the Panthers. If not, then you guys got a dead man walking.
From what ive gotten from Panthers fans, hes a pro bowl tackle when he was healthy, but hes missed 30 of the last 34 games. It comes down to health, I hope hes not like Kris Jenkins where we got so excited in the offseason only to see him gone after the first week or so. If he stays healthy this is the steal of the year, if he doesnt it wont cost us much so who cares.
Well its a conditional pick, and they have a guy on the roster that theyre comfortable with starting.
