I think another suitable question is: If Tebow suffers a season-ending injury in Week 2, then how many of the cultists would continue to follow the Jets TEAM for the rest of the entire season?
I've watched plenty of football over the last several decades. It's undeniable Tebow is a college legend and among the best, if not the greatest, college players of all time. He's far from among the best NFL QBs of the last three years. The question really is this simple... "Can he get better as a passer, to the point where his pocket skills put him even in the middle ranks of current NFL QBs?" 'Cos if he does, his other attributes will make him extremely formidable. If he doesn't, he won't be around more than 2-4 years more, at most.
Cultist? Really? You guys put requirements on fandom that do not exist in the real world. Nowhere in the "Fan's Bible" does it say, "Thou shalt support an entire team" and "Thou shalt not support any particular player without being a fan of his/her team." I wouldn't care about the Jets if Tebow wasn't on the team, and I have no problem saying it. There's nothing wrong with that opinion. I wouldn't care if someone only liked my Miami Heat because of Shane Battier. To each his own. Why does it matter?
Because it's exhausting hearing how everything positive the team does is either done by Tebow or inspired by him. It's cool you're a Tebow fan but there's 52 other guys on the roster who also work hard, have athletic talent, want to win, are proven winners and also know how to have a 9-7 season in 2011.
The difference is that I don't bash the other 52 players. Not even Sanchez. I think Tebow will take his job, but I don't say negative things about Sanchez. You guys continually diss Tebow for no reason. I fully support the other 52 Jets players.
Here's another question: How many Tebow fans (specifically, those who weren't Jets fans until Tebow was traded here) have purchased ANY Jets paraphernalia, be it related or unrelated to Tebow. And be honest.
Why does it matter, man? There's no rite of passage which requires the purchase of Jets goods in order to support the team or one of its players. This is just a silly question. As a UF fan and alumni, I never questioned people who liked my team or players by how many players they like on the team or how much crap they buy. You like one player... cool. You like the whole team... cool. You don't buy UF gear... cool. Who cares? I could easily use this argument to say you are not a "football fan" because you only support the Jets and not the entire NFL. If you don't support all players, teams, and coaches, you are not a real fan because you don't support football on a whole... just your team. See how that sounds?
Yeah, that's pretty dumb. When you get down to that level, then you can just say, "If you don't have season tickets, you're not a real fan," and be done with it.
Actually, before you jump to [wrong] conclusions, you should save your breath. I asked that question from a business aspect -- Woody Johnson doesn't care whether or not you're a real fan; he's far more interested in the stuff that occupies your wallet. If you're not/haven't been a Jets fan and you've already purchased Jets paraphernalia, then he's smiling about trading for Tebow before he's ever played a down as a NYJ.
But you do by not giving a crap if the Jets do well. You care if that Tebow does well. There is nothing wrong with that per-say except as a long time Jets fan you I find it extremely arrogant. Root for Tebow all you want but stay of the Jets fan boards as you are not a jet fan or contribute more than just the Tebow threads. I will give Demo credit there as he has contributed in other non Tebow topics. Typical UF fan story I am on a plane last week and I overhear a conversation on the Broncos Manning and Tebow. This guys says the Broncos would be better off with Tebow although Manning is the better Qb he is like a Robot and wont inspire the team like Tebow. Really, Manning the guy that has a superbowl been to another one and his team went from eleven wins to two without him is just a Robot. Unless of course he played for UF then he would be the best ever but wait he still might be. Go GATORS
how about a 4th option like the one below? I am a fan of another team and am never switching from that team and like Tebow as a person and think he is fun to watch because of all the drama he creates on the football field and I watch the Jets anyway because I always seem to have fantasy football player from the team on my fantasy team and one of my best friends is a die hard Jets fan.
I like players from other teams and have followed some players from college and hope they do well. I do not go on message boards proclaiming how good they are.
I'm sure Demo9 has a warm and fuzzy feeling inside because you give him credit. I am in the Tebowmania section of a Jets fan forum. Last I checked, he is a part of this team. Why don't you get out of the Tebowmania forum? In fact... I am currently a bigger Jets fan than you are at this point, since you are heavily bashing Tebow, a Jets player, while I am not bashing anyone on the Jets. I am showing heavy support for one of the Jets players. Therefore, you are not a fan of the entire Jets team, just the other 52 players. You only care about the Jets if they do well without Tebow starting. If Tebow is named the starter, you'll be bitching and whining even if they win. You are not a true fan and you should leave the forum so us real fans can talk.
With pleasure But then again, who said Tebow made me a Jets fan? Go Pats! Go Panthers! I don't mind pulling for the Jets as long as it doesn't interfere with my Pats or Panthers. But if it makes the OP feel any better, just because Tebow gets traded, it doesn't mean I will stop rooting AGAINST the Jets. The Jets will always be my favorite team to root against, Tebow or no Tebow. That and any team that features Peyton Manning in a playoff game
Yeah, we are not able to be on this forum because we don't praise all the players, their spouses, parents, kids' elementary school teachers, buy Jets souvenir cups, etc... It's all or nothing, right?
