no. no they havent. They may on the practice field but when the bullets start flying...he reverts to the same old QB. Also his release and decision making are still quite poor.

I got my stats over at Sports Reference. As the claim was that Tebow himself was a running QB, it made sense to compare HIS number of pass attempts to HIS number of rushing attempts.

Perhaps we can look to Sanchez's first season in the NFL as an example. In 2009, the Jet's had 393 pass attempts and 607 rushing attempts. Did that make Sanchez a "running QB" ??

Too stupid to be true! You can't count the RBs' rushes in with the QB. DOH!

2009, Sanchez had 364 passing attempts and 36 rushing attempts, so of his 400 plays from scrimmage, 91% were passes and 9% were rushes.

2011, Tebow had 271 passing attempts and 122 rushing attempts, so of his 393 plays, 69% were passes and 31% were rushes.

So, yeah, Tim Tebow is a "running QB". Deal with it.

What is with people here having such a hard time understanding the farking English language ??

he didn't just say that Tebow was a "running QB", he said: "Tebow is primarily a runner and was primarily a runner in college"

"PRIMARILY a runner" even though he passed the ball on close to 70% of his "attempts" ? What an ignorant thing to say.

They just don't get it. Even in the face of facts.

For Tebow to have mostly been a runner, his running % needs to be 51% at a minimum. That wasn't even close to the facts. Take away all of his rushes in college and he still has an outstanding passing career by any measure. The running was just bonus because he is also great at that.

Speaking of Tebow working on mechanics:

Will Tim Tebow ever fix throwing motion?

    July, 20, 2012

    By James Walker | ESPN.com

New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow continues to work endlessly on his quirky throwing motion. Tebow has one of the slowest releases in the NFL, and it continues to be his biggest weakness.

The latest saga in fixing Tebow's poor throwing takes us to Southern California. Tebow will work with passing guru Tom House at USC this weekend, reports Pedro Moura of ESPNLosAngeles.com.

Tebow has worked with several throwing coaches, dating to 2010 when Tebow entered the NFL draft. Tebow also had a quarterback coach with the Denver Broncos and now the New York Jets in three season. After plenty of work, Tebow's throwing motion still is not up to par.

I most recently watched Tebow throw in New York's mandatory minicamp last month, and there continued to be stretches of poor accuracy. There was one play that stood out most, where Tebow pump faked and tried to reload to throw. The pass seemingly took forever, and the defensive line was all over Tebow by the time the ball left his hands. It's hard to see that changing by New York's Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills.

Tebow deserves to be applauded for the immense work he's put in this offseason. Physically, Tebow looks in the best shape of his career as he competes with Jets starter Mark Sanchez. Tebow's toughness, character and athleticism should make him an immediate contributor.

But you wonder if Tebow's throwing motion will ever change dramatically where it is no longer a question. I haven't seen enough evidence for that to be the case.

He should just leave his throwing motion alone and work on the other parts of the game. Too much is made about this silly throwing motion topic. It doesn't matter if you complete the pass how your arm looks. His throwing motion adds like .1 of a second to the throw. It's not really a big deal.

Why is he focusing on something he won't be doing at all this season

Exactly! Shouldn't he focus more on blocking, along with Punt Coverage & tackling?

You guys took that one reference to punt coverage and such, and ran with it. Make no mistake, he is going for Sanchez's job... and he will take it. Not saying Sanchez doesn't deserve to be a starter somewhere, but Tebow is the Jets' future. Keep thinking he will be a punt protector if you want. It's all fun and games until Tebow starts. Just my opinion.

I don't agree. It's important. Not because of the swoop of his arm or anything, but he needs to be able to punch that back foot and get rid of it on time. Timing affects everything.

Tebow is not an inaccurate thrower. All of his inaccurate throws come from being behind in his timing.

Tebow is no more the Jets' future than Kyle Orton is the Cowboys', Brady Quinn is the Chiefs', or Tarvaris Jackson is the Vikings'. That doesn't mean your scenario is impossible, just unlikely. Any one of the above could end up as the starter, but Tebow's best path to a starting job is to work on his deficiencies for the next couple years and hope he gets enough good exposure during the season that coaches can see he's improved.

Sure, Sanchez may not be the Jets long-term answer, but I'm guessing he has a good year this year and all the QB controversy is put to bed.

The thing is, if Tebow isn't starting he isn't going to get much NFL experience with the new motion. He will be practicing it, but he is changing something he has done for 6 years. In tight moments, you always react first and its gonna go back to his old form. If you are going to change your motion it needs to start immediately in the offseason so you can build as much muscle memory as possible, not a couple months before the season.

This isn't a very good example, but when hitting coaches try to change a hitter's technique midseason it usually fails. It's because they are thinking and the muscle memory isn't there. It makes you a step slower

Maybe his misfires will only land in the first row instead of the parking lot now.

I'm gonna miss those throws that look like they were chucked discus style.

I think he's on a Rich Gannon path right now. He needs to get it worked out over the next two years. Enjoy this time, because most backups don't get to play and contribute to wins (and he will), and he's either working towards being the Jets alternative when they don't resign Sanchez in two years, or finding a gig somewhere else.

Unless Sanchez play lights out (unlikely), Tebow will be starting by mid-October. His throwing motion has tightened a good bit since college, its never going to look like Dan Marino but it has gotten better.
The slow throwing process is a result of Tebow being a young, indecisive qb. He would rather throw it into the dirt and take an incompletion than an interception. The results speak for themselves last season, a subpar completion percentage, but a very low interception rate. Only 6 interceptions the entire season, including two playoff games. When you take the Bills disaster out of the equation in which he threw 4 ints in one game, you are left with only 2 int's the rest of the season. Thats right 2 picks in 12 games. That is a mind-boggling low amount of interceptions, especially for a young Qb.
Tebow is aware that he is probably the most criticized athlete of our generation, and that no doubt led to him being overly conservative with his decision making in the passing game. He chose to throw it where either his receiver could grab a low ball and make a play or live to fight another day.
With the way the Broncos fortunes turned around, you could hardly make an argument that this philosophy, while incredibly frustrating until the end of games, didn't work out beautifully most of the time. It set up everything for crunch time pressure performance, just the way Tebow likes it.
The thing that all Tebowmaniacs like myself would love to see is the sense of urgency we saw at the end of games last year transferred to the other 3 and half quarters. Once the game slows down for him, and if he gets the right coaching staff behind him, the NFL better watch the fuck out.

Jet fans that think this kid is going to come here and be another Brad Smith have no freaking clue who this guy is. But don't worry, you are going to get the most pleasant surprise of your up until this point frustrating football fandom.
