PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have released veteran offensive tackle Jonathan Scott. The 29-year-old Scott started 14 games and three playoff games during his two seasons with the Steelers. Scott became expendable when Pittsburgh selected Ohio State tackle Mike Adams in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft and re-signed veteran Max Starks earlier this week. Scott, a fifth-round pick by the Detroit Lions in the 2006 Draft, played two years with the Lions and two more with the Buffalo Bills before signing with Pittsburgh before the 2010 season.
Well worth a look...no question we need another OL even if its a better back up, but this guys seems like hes better the hunter already.
I don't pay much attention to the Steelers offensive line but looking at the work profootballfocus.com did in grading him it appears as if most of his struggles last season came from the LT position, especially against speed rushers. When he played RT he was mostly graded out at neutral, which was mostly better than Wayne Hunter who had a lot of negative days at RT last year. Doesn't seem like a guy that is going to be anything special, but maybe an OK hold the fort type player at RT based on nothing but looking at the work PFF did FWIW.
as of right now there isnt much depth on OL anyway so we might as well take a look, he will be cheap and if he is servicable ill take him with open arms.
No, I think bringing in another Hunter-calibre player will do nothing for us. If we're gonna have a piece of shit compete with Hunter let that piece of shit be Vlad Ducasse who we invested a 2nd rder for.
Steelers released OT Jonathan Scott. Scott was severely overmatched as a desperation five-game starter when Max Starks was released prior to the 2011 season opener. Now that Starks has been brought back as insurance for rookie Mike Adams, Scott was a luxury at $2.2 million. The Steelers can use that money to bridge the gap on Mike Wallace's multi-year deal

Scott is shit, no thanks. One OL I want a strong look @ is John Jerry. Its possible Miami may cut him, he's young and our coaches know him. Was a sparano 3rd round pick in 2010. He was clearly disappointing, but would cost almost nothing, and could compete @ starting rg next year Def a smart move imo, Scott is. Not
