You have mysterious powers with the ability to tell the future...how could I ever have doubted anything you said. Will the Jets make the playoffs this year my fellow fortune teller
Excellent news...If Sanchez had season ending surgery, would you still root for the Jets if Tebow was under center?
Of course. I wouldnt expect much but I would still root for the guy. Here's the deal, I don't dislike Tebow the man, I dislike Tebow the QB, I don't like his style of play as I don't feel it is the style needed to win the SB, which is the only real goal. I'm old school, if you dont win the championship..its a bad season. So some cheeky wins against mediocre / bad opponents and 1 win against a decent team doesn't impress me much. What would impress is if he could get in to the 57% completion range, reduce the number of sacks he takes, read a defence and quit putting the ball on the ground and win some games without having it come down to the final drive.
Very reasonable. Tebow will just be a weapon who takes a couple days to prepare for. Sanchez will play his best football ever and the Jets will get to the playoffs. Im really excited to see how this works out and hope people drown out the pessimism.
Tebow will do accomplish all of your wish list in good time. You seem to judge him as a finished product, which he isn't even close. Peyton Manning threw something like 28 int's and went 1-15 his first year as a starter. Tebow had an incredibly successful first year as a starter if you judge him by the same standards applied to anyone else. The fact that he won so many games at the end is truly amazing, not something I can remember any NFL qb pulling off in their first string of starts.
The big difference is with Manning you knew it was the experience he lacked not the tools. Tebow lacks the same raw tools that Manning and the better QB's have. What are the top 5 traits of a QB? 1. Field Vision - Tebow very seldom checked down and locked on to one WR, missing many open shorter passes. 2. Accuracy - we all know where he is on that front. 3. Quick Release - avoids sacks and delivers ball to wr before defense gets there. 4. Ability to read pre-snap defenses and make adjustments - agin suffers from very low ability here. 5. Leadership - This is his one ability at this point. Tebow's physical abilities arent the issue (other than his slow release), its his mental acuity for the game at this level that makes me think he wont succeed. People always say the physical side is the hardest thing to change but I disagree, while it is difficult it can be done, but how many players have come in to the league with mental difficiencies (not like being slow) but lacking in the mental part of the game that separates the best from the rest and have been talked about for 5-6 years and they never get any better at the mental side of things? POTENTIAL, is a deadly word for most players. I think Tebow's potential is mid-range QB 15-20 in the rankings every year but beyond that I don't see him becoming a perrenial top 10 type QB. We have a perfect example on our team in Greene. He looks the part, has all the physical ability in the world but lacks field vision and therefore he is merely an average RB, you cant TEACH field vision, the greats have it the mediocres dont.
Completely disagree with many of your points but I will happily note that you think Tebow's potential is Top 15-20. Not bad when you consider that most of the rest of the Anti Tebow crowd says that he'll never be an NFL QB, or, perhaps some other snarky and insulting comment, such as this:
Actually, by your logic no QB who was highly regarded would be a bust. The hope is always that a guy who has tools will get better with experience. How many guys seemingly had all the tools and never did squat? More often than not, it just doesn't work out for a QB in the NFL. Tebow has all the raw tools needed. He deserves the chance to develop just like any other young raw QB. Especially, given his pedigree as a winner and leader. Sanchez is not the same quality of leader as Tebow and to me, that is the most important attribute, not field vision. A QB needs to be a leader of men first and foremost.
I stand by what i say. Tebows POTENTIAL is 15-20 ranked QB so an average NFL QB. His REALITY at this point in his career is Journeyman, already on his second team going in to his 3rd season, is designated as a "special" plays player by his HC and OC and will only get a start if Sanchez pulls an Orton or gets injured. Which means if Sanchez plays well he keeps Tebow on the bench for another year and possibly 2. Sounds like a Journeyman NFL QB to me.
Tell that to the HC that loses his job when his Leader cant complete 50% of his passes, leads the league in 3 and outs, and cant lead his team to more than 16pts in a game. Leadership is great but I would rather have ability.
Oh by the way. Nobody gives a shit about what he did in college FB. If it wasnt for McDaniels, Tebow would have gone somewhere beyond the 3rd round. That how much they care about his leadership and winning and chances are he would have been cut or have never seen the field yet depending on who took him in the later rounds. He played nearly every snap in a single read shot gun offense in college whoch translates to absolutely nothing in the NFL.
Yeah, well then why even play college football then? Why do GMs even draft based on college performance? Let's just look at someone and say... "I think he may probably be able to play football, maybe, perhaps." College doesn't matter! Let's not draft based on performance in college from now on! BTW, I give a shit about what people do in college FB.
Is that Bill Walsh back from the heavan's with the quintessiantial list of a good QB? lol. 1)How was Manning's field vision when he was throwing 28 int's in his first season as a starter leading his team to a 3-13 record? I will take Tebow's 6 int's and a Division title his first year of starting, not even close. 2) Accuracy, not where it needs to be, but at least the ball isn't going to the other team. I will take a lower completion % with a drastic amount of less interceptions. Other than the Bill game where he threw 4 picks, Tebow only threw 2 ints in 12 games. That is mind-boggling low amount of ints, he didn't kill his teams chances like most young qb's do. He kept them in the game, and then at the end, more often than not, he won. 3) Quick release- Joe Montana, the best qb of all time, slow release, case closed. 4) Ability to make adjustments- comes with time and experience. 5) Leader ship- A 4-12 team in 2010, a 1-4 start in 2011. Tebow starts, immediately the team wins 7 out of 11, takes the division title and wins a playoff game. All in his first year of starting............case closed.
Yeah, I'm an Army guy so I am biased towards leadership being the most important because as a QB, you need to get the most out of your teammates. In a team sport, you are only as good as your weakest link. Getting everyone to play hard and have a winning mentality is priority #1. Everything else begins to click once you have that squared away. Practices are more focused, games are more focused, and you have a belief that you will pull together as a unit when it counts most. I think that is undersold in the case of Tebow's worthiness to be a starting QB.
Here's why the rest of your post is unnecessary: Manning was neither relegated to a backup role nor traded to another team after his first season as a starter. P.S. Neither was Sanchez.
manning and Sanchez also had huge contracts that kind of prohibited any kind of trade. Both the Jets and the Colts had made such huge investments that they basically had to give each QB time to see if they developed.
Your reply makes no logical sense. How does Tebow being traded relate to what his results on the field were. The decisions of the front office do not change the facts of what Manning did in his first year starting and what Tebow did in his first year starting. Illogical.
