Exactly. He was definitely injured. But I feel like no one talked about it and assumed it didn't affect his game since Sanchez is "tough". I think it had a huge impact on how bad he looked in the last few games, and I hope it means a healthy Sanchez = a decent qb.

A Sanchez fan better hope he was injured, losing games left and right with a good team behind him.

No troll, Tebow is taking this thing over, just like the New York Jets.

No problem, you are going to need them when your boy gets Ortonized by about mid-October.

If Tebow has to take this team over, that means this whole thing is down the drains by then.

Tebow is just like Jeremy Lin; he cannot rely on his arms to carry out his primary function so he has to rely on his legs to make up for it. (At least Tebow is not the walking turnover machine that Lin is - that may be his saving grace.)

where did this "injured" crap come from? stop the fiction-sanchez just wasn't very good last year...in fact, at times, he sucked...he was always behind their running game and defense in importance

It came probably since the Denver game where he took a couple late non called shots on his shoulder and held at it as side like a stinger. He then would hold that later shoulder in the Eagles game as he was driven into the ground late again and still played. It was noticeable since about midseason that his shoulder was bothering him. At numerous other times you could see it bothered him. If you were looking for it, it was obvious he was hurt.

That doesn't absolve him from mental errors, but definitely could tell the shoulder bothered him physically.

You do realize they went .500, not 2-14 right? And that his overall record is 31-22 I believe. 10-8 + 13-6 + 8-8. (he missed the TB game in 09)

So he really wasn't losing games left and right. He actually ended the regular season on a 3 game losing streak just like Tebow.

I am reading these posts and saying to myself,, OMG you are talking about the recievers and the running game and how bad Mark played last year. How could anyone play with that God awful offensive line he had. Do you people even know what your talking about. The Offensive line is the bread and butter of the game,, if that fails it all fails.. How can you blame Mark for that ,, Im just sick of it.. Put any other QB back there and they would have not done any better and maybe worse. He was hurt,, give me a break he was getting killed,, Passing game,, how much time did he have to throw the ball. Running game, they knew he was hurt so you stack the box.. It so simple. Yet you all blame Mark. Just look at the tape from last year then make your comments.

    OL this, OL that... whatever.

It takes more than just the five guys up front to collectively fail at pass protection. Believe it or not, the QB is reading the defense based upon the protection scheme devised by the OC. At any given passing down, the QB has to at least identify 1. Mike 2. His sight adjustment. (This is for any protection with RB in the backfield) Then center, based upon QB's identification of Mike, makes relevant line calls along the linemates, while the RB keys on the opposite side of QB's sight.

Thus, in this regard, the responsibility of offensive failure must go to Schottenheimer. There is no other way around it. He devises the protection scheme (1) and gives the QB what defenders to key on (2). In general, the QBs under Schottenheimer's system have been either reading the defense wrong, or didn't have sufficient (or correct) protection against the opponents. If it was only Sanchez struggling, with other QBs having masterful season, then I am inclined to say Sanchez is at fault; stats say that's not quite the case. Only Sanchez posted respectable sack rate two falls ago, and no other QB did well enough in his schemes. This leads me to believe that the system Schottenheimer had here is such a crock of shit.

Even during that miracle season (2006) Pennington was sacked 36 times while hit 50 times. 2007 season was brutal (49 sacks/82 hits) and Brett fared marginally better. (32 sacks/52 hits). Ok... having two rookies at OL might not have helped in 2006, but how about the ensuing seasons? By 3rd season, Mangold established himself as one of, if not the, best center in NFL. Ferguson wasn't doing too badly either. So either the entire population was feeding off media frenzy without thinking too much, or someone had come up with some bogus stats to say Jets OL are pretty damn good, or the OL is doing what they are asked to do; and they do well at it - but the overall scheme still fails. *I am inclined to think this is the case.*

Things might look better in 2009, in Sanchez's rookie year (28 sacks/39 hits) but then you all have to remember Sanchez only dropped back 364 times all year. That is quite unhealty 7.1% sack ratio - you should stay close to 5% or less if possible - so in this regard, it is more than clear that Schottenheimer just does not know how to protect his QB. Sack ratio for other QBs isn't too much better either. Pennington in 2006 was sacked 6.9%. Jets QBs in 2007 collectively ate the grass at 8.7% ratio. (Oh my GAWD. Ok. Kendall fiasco is on T-Bomb. He addressed this by signing Faneca the next season. That does not mean much in overall scheme of protection since unless Mangold is literally playing next to a road pylon, LG should have been able to handle the nose tackle position with C. Now, add that, QB has to read the defense to relay what he must to the center. Unless the protection scheme is an utter shit that is Schottenheimer system, it takes the QB, the OL, the TE and the RB to consistently fail at pass protection like it happened in 2007. Really. Then what could Schottenheimer do in 2007? Ok, in Pennington's inaugural season with the Dolphins, they didn't have good OL. So how did they address this issue? They brought in Wildcat to give the OL any hope of success. All right? If Adriane Clarke was that huge a hole, then Schottenheimer could (and should) have done similar thing; by that, what I mean is, Jets could create unbalanced line with two TEs aligned off the LT. This is but ONE example of how he could have done better job designing protection schemes - that he either did not do or could not do.) Only Brett fared well enough (5.77% - still a bit high) - only marginally like I said above. (If you consider Favre had Ferguson, Faneca AND Mangold for the blindside protection, you will realize 5.77% is inexcusable.)

Thus, once you combine all these up, it becomes rather clear that Schottenheimer cannot have an adequate offense under any circumstances because he himself has hard time planning against a given defense any given Sunday. He cannot protect his QB with the schemes. All Jets QBs under Schottenheimer struggled - and for a very good reason. This becomes evident when the QBs leave Schottenheimer's evil clutch: Pennington in his first season at Miami was sacked at measly 5.17% rate while Brett in 2009 posted 4.66% sack ratio. It stands to reason that, the protection scheme Schottenheimer installed just makes no sense whatsoever even for a Rhode Scholar like Pennington. (Writing is on the wall. Not just Pennington by the way.)

Only Sanchez in his 2nd year posted respectable sack rate (5.05%) but was still completing under 60%. Last year was brutal; unhealthy 6.7% Maybe Sanchez is dumb as doorknob and cannot process the necessary information at requisite speed, but then Pennington couldn't do that either. Kellen Clemens could not do that, and I don't think Brett Favre stat (5.77%) is a legitimate barometer to gauge Schottenheimer's performance as an offensive coordinator. When the hard, cold facts are out there like this, staring down at us, I just cannot comprehend how anybody can just forget the profound effect this dumb retard had on the overall offense.

    ==========================================

I do not think it is fair to compare the sack rate of the Dolphins QBs under Sparano's tenure since Sparano was the HC, and not the OC. Also I don't know if he has any qualified experience at that to speak of; his job at Dallas was play calling if at all. So it remains to be seen how he will fare as this new gig at OC; at least he seems to understand the importance of protecting his QB unlike his retard predecessor.

P.S. Ok. Brian might have been dealt a raw deal with WFH. Any GM worth his salt will try to get a better RT if the protection consistently needs a chipping TE (like WFH.) That does not excuse Schottenheimer from his poor job however. Last year was a double whammy, by T-Bomb and Schottenheimer. And T-Bomb didn't upgrade the RT position this off season either. Good riddance.

P.S. 2. Why is 5% the golden barometer of sack rate? It's because, at 5% sack rate, the QB will pick up a sack every 20 drop backs. This means, if the offense features strong rushing attack, which minimizes the need for drop backs, the QB will survive a game or even two without picking up a sack. At 7%, the QB picks up a sack once every 14 drop backs. That is like, at least 1 sack is guaranteed every game, if not more.

P.S. 3. Ok. I've been blasting Schottenheimer, but do not forget that the root of all the prime evil starts from that bean counter T-Bomb. He compromised the season twice in the past half decade all by himself. And he keeps undermining the OL/DL basis year in and year out. It takes none other than Rex Ryan to make this defense as formidable as it is now. Offense has been ho-hum for quite some time - and T-Bomb has been the few constants that includes the retard Schottenheimer.

I mean if you want to google, you can find what I am saying. I just didn't feel like doing the work since you have an internet connection also.

Since I am in a nice mood, here is a head start: http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2011/12/jets_qb_mark_sanchez_says_neck.html

With quotes too since I am in the giving mood:

"Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez said his neck issue is "similar" to the one that landed him on the team's injury report following a loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 11."

"Sanchez took a hit from Jason Babin to the side of his neck in the third quarter of last week's loss to the Eagles. Though he played the next series, he was visibly uncomfortable, having the neck massaged by the training staff in between series."

"Ryan mentioned the words "stinger" and "burner" but quickly retracted those, reiterating that he did not know how to classify the issue, just that it looked like a burner at the time."

Now you can do the rest of the searching right? You can pull up similar articles like I found too repeating these things. So taking my word means taking the words of where I read all of this too. :)

Oh and the bold is everything I wrote earlier from what I remember and saw.

Zach, my friend, you win the thread.

I'm so fucking tired of everybody blaming the o-line for everything. Sure it wasn't great, but Sanchez and Schotty are much more to blame for the offensive woes than anything else.

And lets face it, if Wayne Hunter alone is preventing you from winning a SB, you've got much bigger problems at stake.
