the only reason that the nets fell off is cause bruce ratner was more concerned with acquiring finances for the move to bk than financing the payroll the billboard was more about getting under the the knicks skin than getting lebron or any other player ... and deron > melo, the nets drove the price for melo and then made the deal for the better player the nets have arguably the best pg in the league, a great spot up shooter who can also create his own shot, a top notch perimeter defender to deal with the elite wings in the game, and one of the best low post scorers in the game ... the nets are now one of the tops team in the east, you will soon see the knicks have incompetent ownership (dude STILL consults zeek) and a roster full of injury prone players that dont complement each other well good luck with that
Heh this was the optimism I was talking about in the thread the Bills fan overran. Joe Johnson is not a top notch perimeter defender. He is above average. Deron Williams is not arguable the best PG in the league. He is definitely a top 5 point guard. Lopez is also not one of the best low post scorers in the game. They are all above average at what they do, but not the best. Amare is injury prone, that doesn't spread to everyone on the team. Heh drove up the Melo price so we had to give up Mozgov. Oh man how terrible :breakdance: Deron and Melo play different position but both are typically the same type of guy. Playoff appearances as the main guy, nothing to show for it. The Nets are a real good team, don't get me wrong, but this is vastly overrating them. They are a top 4 team in the East, reading this I would think they are the best team ever. Ha and you say the Knicks don't match each other and you trade for the one guy who isos more than Melo, Joe Johnson. Come on man, you guys are good, better than the Knicks until Shump is healthy, but you aren't running away from the Knicks or any playoff team in the East. You get Dwight in the middle of the season, different story I bolded some phrases so people can see I am not just hating to hate. I am being realistic here And in 3-5 to years, not sure exactly when, the Knicks and Nets are most likely both going to be in cap hell.
Also I missed this: Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine Numbers circulating in Kris Humphries' bidding war: Word is Nets offering three-year deal worth $24 mil; Bobcats offering three years, $22M Humphries should choose the Nets but I guess playing next to Davis might be fun.
you can keep Carmelo. great scorer, great closer. I just dont see a diverse offense able to function around him. hes most effective as a high volume shooter and I have a feeling hell go down as one of those great players who never got to a Finals EDIT: im not trying to underplay his talent cause hes ridiculous. theres just something about him, I wish his effort was more rounded outside of scoring and his intensity more consistent.
this except I explained my affinity to the Knicks in the 90's so I dont really care until Knick fans get on an invisible high horse
Im a net fan and I can agree with this. Except I think Deron is probably the 3rd best behind CP3 and Rose. I think people underrate Williams ability to be an elite TRUE PG with his ability to rack up assists and an offensive game that draws other people open. Lopez lacks elite defense and rebounding. Hes still one of the best scoring big men in the league. Which is probably why we overpaid for him in a league of Rebound/Post D specialist journeymen still getting decent contracts. Its a fact hes a decent rebounder, but if he were a great rebounder hed be an elite talent. His offensive game is impressive, youd like to see someone like him match that intensity on the other side of the floor but he only shows flashes. Maybe theyre banking on everything to click and him to shake his injury bug cause he still has the potential to be a top tier talent. but that remains to be seen. Joe Johnson is vastly overpaid but has been underrated. His insane contract brought alot of unjustified expectations. Hes still one of the best shooters. His job will simply be to knockdown shots, as far as his ISO habits that will help D-Will and Lopez get better shots. If hes used right he can justify some of the lofty expectations more optimistic net fans are setting. at worst hes a solid defender with the kind of shooting game that doesnt disappear with age. What the nets need is more rebounding presence and a better post defender who can rotate at 4/5 to compliment either Lopez or Hump. and they need to not give up on Brooks, if hes shopped further and leaves i would be disappointed they need to develop him
i was referring to gerald wallace, who is a top notch perimeter defender ... deron and cp3 are the only pg's in the league who have ever avg 20 and 10, and deron absolutely owns cp3 when they go head to head. rondo aint fuckin with him, westbrook is a combo guard, and rose is hurt ... name me some better low post scorers than lopez. i count bynum, aldridge, dirk, cousins, and maybe d12. hes certainly one of the best in the east amare, chandler and camby (pretty much all of your bigs) are all injury prone ... lin played like 20 games and got hurt and jason kidd is 176 years old they are not the same type of guy AT ALL ... deron gets his and gets his while getting his team involved, melo gets his i said they were a probable top 4 team in the east before and you scoffed at it, i simply showed you why they are thats the way mike woodson runs his offense, you should know this ... joe johnson and horford were the only guys on the hawks that could get their own shots. hes also a FAR better passer than melo in 3 years deron and brook will still be in their primes while wallace and johnson will have valuable expiring contracts ... meanwhile, melo has the chance to opt out if/when chandler and amare break down
thats why i love the reggie evans deal ... all he does is rebound and play D i like brooks but i think we should use him to get an athletic 4 ... although he does have good defensive potential, scoring wings are dime a dozen
This is like the Bills and Dolphins arguing about whose is bigger. Where the realities is both teams are a heaping pile of shit. Obviously the Nets and Knicks are in far better situations than those 2 but the reality is the Knicks are crippled by Amare and this monster contract along with his idiotic behavior poor defense and constant injuries. And the Nets are somewhat crippled by having an injury risk center with a huge contract, a somewhat overpaid (but still talented) JJ. I think the Nets are definitely in the better position of the two, but right now the Knicks have better potential (if Melo, Amare, Smith play up to their real potential theyre a serious championship contender).
Against you. Fucking loved it. We've both had our moments, the Knicks had a 15-year run near the top of the league with Ewing, too. But I'm talking about the here and now. We're two years out of the Isiah thing, we've crossed that first bridge. Nets need to do that first, get in a playoff series, have a winning record, like I said before I don't hate them, it would be fun if both teams were good. Like you said, maybe then we can hate each other for a good reason.
Chicago had a better record than Miami but lost Derrick Rose the first game of the playoffs. Get him back 100% and you have to factor them in. Now that's a team I hate, two teams, actually.
This is the sentiment I'm talking about, it's always the Nets are somehow set up better. I don't get that, even the year the won like 10 games I kept hearing about how well it was positioning them.
The nets are a better team right now (theyll get more regular season wins) But I think the Knicks have a better shot of winning a championship. I know that sounds weird, but it really comes to the guys on the Knicks gelling. If they can do it, and guys play up to their potential they really should be able to win a title. Its just the odds of them doing it, arent good. And Amare can single handily sink that ship
Watson from CHI jus signed with the nets to backup DWill. He took less money thn other offers. Apparently it was a cll from DWill that sealed the deal. Good backup love this pickup. Nets just got alot deeper.
Then Knicks are a heaping pile of shit? Go root for another team, you fake ass Knicks fan. You don't deserve to have a team as good as the Knicks right now.
