He's still the cancer, but I guess he's trying to make himself look better - a case of too little too late for Plax. After Jason Babin laid the smackdown on our QB, you could tell something was up. Either that or the Von Miller hit
well he got speared at least 4 times last year. Twice by Von Miller, Once by Ngata, and once by somebody else on the Ravens. So neck/back/arm injuries shouldnt surprise anybody.
Forgot about Ngata, and Ed Reed. Damn I could only imagine what it's like to go through those hits week in and week out, Matthew Stafford trips falls on his shoulder and he's out for the season. We got a tough QB
Even is Sanchez had a bum shoulder, that doesn't explain most of his poor decision making. It would explain some of the fumbles though. By the way, if it turns out that Sanchez's arm strength/release were seriously limited by a shoulder injury last season, would that change people's opinion of the playcalling down the stretch?
This was my immediate reaction too. Many believe Plax was one of the major issues in the Jets locker room last year. To what extent & to what capacity is unknown..but those rumors are out there. He's been on record numerous times being lukewarm about Sanchez's ability. Hard to say where this is coming from. That said, it was pretty obvious that Sanchez was banged up by year's end...and the whole offense for that matter, including schotty, were WAY out of sync.
If he only had the confidence in his arm to make certain throws it would. Some QB's tend to force certain patterns/throws when they aren't comfortable. Don't get me wrong...Sanchez needs to get ALOT better. It's time for him to grow up. He has all the physical tools to be a big play QB. He's never gonna be a 65% completion guy. But he can make all the throws, make all the athletic plays & has shown the ability to be very good in the clutch. That mixed with an effective ground & pound can make for a very good offense longterm. He needs to take better care of the football & become this team's leadership.Right now leadership is his biggest fault.
consider the source. i presume that Sanchez was banged up and playing w/unreported injuries. that is what nfl qbs are supposed to do. the line failed to protect him. the line sucked and sanchez sucked and plax sucked. not really news. only issue is whether the line is going to do a better job protecting Sanchez in 2012. Hopefully Vlad has improved markedly and is ready to step up.
I thought it was obvious Sanchez was injured last year. His arm looked dead at times, he used to clutch his right shoulder randomly, and he took numerous late and illegal hits that weren't called and some of those hits landed on that shoulder. I don't think Plax is the best source either to confirm this but do we know for certain he was "anonymous"? (I do think he was the anonymous guy)
1. Really? Knowing you can't make certain types of throws will not make you hesitant toward throwing them, right? 2. You mean, 64 pass attempt disaster, right? NO. Not the torn rotator cuff, god damn it.
Injuries are part of football. If you are in the game, you must overcome injuries in order to win the game. If you are unable to do so you should be taking yourself out of the game. Sanchez has no excuses nor top his credit, has he attempted to make injury excuses for his poor performance. Its not an excuse. injuries are part of the game. Namath won a SB and he was nearly crippled.
The o line gets way too much blame for last year. Sanchez made it seem worse than it actually was due to his inability to read defenses and make adjustments at the line. Not saying the o line was amazing in any way, but it was middle of the road as opposed to terrible as most people are making it to to be.
The OL was terrible, the RB can't break tackles, Keller's concentration lapses, Holmes drama & Mulligan was a penalty machine. The Jets offense broke down in multiple places including Sanchez decision-making and his ability to execute. Injuries are a part of the game and if Sanchez or any other NFL player takes the field, they have to accept responsibility for their performance. Sanchez isn't making excuses in the media and the neither is the coaching staff. Also, Plax is just a damn puss & shouldn't be taken seriously. It's funny how he had very few positive things to say about the Jets until draft/FA period passed and nobody wants him.
Sanchez made plenty of errors that can't be chalked up to that, though. He didn't throw that awful pick-6 against the Broncos because he didn't have confidence in his arm, he threw it because he completely misread the defense. He didn't throw it into a defensive lineman's stomach against Miami because he couldn't make a deep throw, he did it because he panicked. As others have noted, almost every QB in the league plays through injuries. Let's not whitewash Sanchez's problems because he's a part of that club. I do mean that game, and it does change the way that I think about it. Knowing that Sanchez had a shoulder problem -- if it's true (Plax is far from a reliable source) -- takes my opinion of the playcalling there from bad to entirely indefensible.
I do think the injury explains why some throws didn't seem up to par and Sanchez seemed to avoid contact. Remember that in 09 and 10 he would stand it the pocket and take a couple shots or he was extremely slippery in the pocket. Sanchez definitely had problems that weren't injury related but the injury didn't help him obviously.
