Stories on NFL.Com right now. Tebow learning MMA at Gracie gym in NYC. Manning getting better at QB position by using new Ipad technology supplied by the Broncos. Hmmm wonder why Manning will go down as one of the top qb's of all time and Tebow won't. But hey, Tebow had better college QB stats...so that's awesome.
Why Tebow >>>>>> MetsnJets Tebow breaking records in college Tebow getting better at life by using commonsense Hmmmmm wonder why Tebow is better than MetsnJets But hey, MetsnJets has an MBA...so that's awesome.
I'm merely pointing out one of the many reasons I don't think Tebow will ever be any good. He is interested in too many other things. While it may make him a better human it doesn't help him on the FB field. To be great he has to eat, sleep, think and live FB 24/7 until his career is over. But he won't... which means he will never be the QB you hope he becomes.
Hmmm, I seem to recall a guy named Jerry Rice who was thought to be a pretty decent NFL receiver. Didn't he waste time taking ballet lessons ?? think outside the box cupcake. BTW, last I checked, Peyton Manning has a wife and a couple of kids, and he's also been known to do TV commercials. . So much for "eat, sleep, think and live FB 24/7 until his career is over"
That's actually a fair concern. It does seem like he sometimes has too many irons in the fire. If he's just using the time he'd otherwise be devoting to physical training, probably not a big deal. If it's pushing out him developing his skills, it is. Time will tell. I don't actually expect Tebow to be the starter at any time this season. What I hope is that he develops enough that another team decides to take a shot on him being their starter in a couple of years.
You could argue that Ballet would help Rice could you not as a WR, flexibility and the strength he earned in ballet should transfer to what he needs todo on the field. How does MMA help Tebow become a better QB?
Rice definitely believed that ballet helped him on the field. So did Lynn Swann. I won't argue with either of them. Jiu Jitsu could help Tebow with flexibility and being limber. Some have posited that his musclar bulk impedes his ability to throw. This might possibly help with that. Or, it be mental discipline. In Jiu Jitsu, one of the key things is to simply remain calm and think through what is going on and what you want to do. Ever watch some of the Gracies in MMA and compare them to others ? Some guys get taken to the ground and they start flailing away, not quite panicking, but very active. Guys like Henzo Gracie or Royce Gracie ? They look so serene on the ground. Calm and collected. They focus on what the other guy is doing, figure out what they should do, then do it. Lastly, it could very well just be a healthy diversion. You know the saying about all work and no play. Think about this. What would make you more effective ? Working 24/7/365 ? Or having some brief time off now and then ? Contrary to some opinions, 24/7/365 isn't a very smart way to do things as it leads to burn out amongst other things.
I was the one saying he is to bulky to play QB. This was before I heard the coaches wanted him at 250. metsjets is right in that this will not make him a better QB but it will make him a better FB player. As more and more info comes out Tebow was not brought in to compete with Sanchez Tebow was brought in to booster the running game. The gaining of weight, training in jiu jitsu, in general training like a FB or LB will hurt Tebow as an effective pocket passer but it will help him become better in his role the Jets are laying out for him. Go Tebow he will be an intricate part to the Jets success this season. Just not as a QB. Tebow knows he will never be an NFL passer that is why he is doing this.
So if any QB doesn't measure up to Peyton Manning at this point in their career they have to be a bust. Have I got this right? I think I know why Peyton doesn't do Jiu Jitsu - anybody take a wild guess? I'm not sure how an IPad prepares a QB for the upcoming season but I would like to know. Sounds interesting.
Doesn't it seem like Tebow is probably on the west coast for the "Jets West" camp organized by Sanchez? Working on being a QB and all? I think this MMA thing is probably more of a visit and photo, with a workout for staying in shape. Not that anybody is overreacting or anything.
Tebow is preparing for his role with the Jets which is a Wild cat QB and other things. Not as an under center starting QB.
I will not say there is not truth to what you say because we don't know. I will say you have the wrong conclusion however. Tebow was out lifting the linemen in college and they had to force him to back off the weight training. He wasn't lifting with the linemen because he had given up the idea of playing QB. The dude likes physical exercise and competition.
I would like to thank the OP. After several months, this is the first time I've actually agreed with the 312ers on something. You sir, are retarded.
