It wasn't being a captain that did that it was a ton of guaranteed money and the knowledge that he was a cap-nightmare for the Jets if they tried to move him.
The Jets organizationally have a hard time admitting their mistakes and moving on from them. This is just another example.
No, the mistake was naming Holmes. Instead of admitting that was a mistake, and by extension making the organization look bad for his foolish contract, and naming a real leader captain, Rex is just taking his ball and going home. "We don't need no stinking captains." I expect the fat guy to show more leadership than that.
The naming of captains to the fans and media is nothing but nonsense. he had a system where he didn't name them, for 2 years we were very successful. last year he changed it up and it didn't work, he quickly realized it was a mistake and changed back. There's nothing wrong w/ what he did.
No, he didn't realize that he made a mistake in picking captains who weren't worthy of being captains. He never said that. He implied that picking captains in the first place is a mistake, which is not true. Teams have had success while picking season long captains. This is a reactionary move where he is acting like there is an either/or with no in between. The in between being picking real leaders to be captains, not scrapping the idea altogether.
Yeah, I think it's silly to make something out of this. The mistake was naming captains last year, he corrected that this year.
No, naming captains last year was the policy. Naming Holmes a captain was a mistake. Switching back was not a correction, it was an avoidance. The only way you can say naming captains is a mistake is if you can find some sort of evidence to find that it leads to hindered performance. Good luck
Not that this really means anything But on espn they said under Rex Ryan the Jets have a .632 record without captains, and a .500 record with captains.
thats not true, im almost positive there are other teams without a C on their jersey. Like Tom Brady doesn't have a C
lol. the steelers and the bengals don't have captains as well. why is everyone making a big deal as if the jets are the only team not doing it? some people on this board are way too pessimistic and try to argue with rex/FO on everything
