he compared mo's work ehtic to revis' not his play gholston he tried to coach thru the media.failed but worth a shot he compared davis' leadership to ray lewis.did he say he is as good as lewis? no ellis is one of the most improved jets.why is that a stretch? if he didn't know the playbook and now he does thats a big improvemnent in shorts and t shirts k.w had a decent second year and like some said being ranked 49th when there is 64 starting corner makes him pretty high in the nickel rankings. when you take it out of context and just say he compared davis to lewis then yea it sounds crazy.however when you look at what he actually said its not that far fetched
Mo Wilk was also piped up as the "2nd best player on the defense behind Revis" (think Pettine might of said this not Rex). And comparing a guy who has NEVER played a snap in the NFL to Lewis's leadership is still ridiculous. Lewis is not only one of the best defenders in the history of the nfl, but how many players have you seen lead a defense like him ? In the last 20 years I cant think of many at all. And to compare a guy that you just signed a few weeks ago, hasnt played in a game or scrimmage yet, hasnt even been to training camp yet its still crazy. Although true his quote was more about mannerisms and crap like that also (which im fine with), but if Davis has even a quarter of the leadership that Ray has that would instantly make it a complete home run of a pick. But its ridiculous to get too far ahead of ourselves now. Although I will say Im totally in love with our draft class this year, probably my absolute favorite of my life so far.
He was being sarcastic because of all of the pessimism towards Mo Wilk being called dominant in OTA’s... I believe.
Has anybody noticed how many guys the Jets have who apparently are the first to the field/film room/gym and the last to leave? More empty Rex talk. I like him, but I can't believe a word he says anymore.
If Rex were to do this, he would be making a mistake and coaching with his heart instead of his head. The best 11 should play.
Revis giving this kid a compliment like that shows everyone who questioned the pick that you cant judge a book by its cover. Harris is a quiet guy and every team needs an ILB who is vocal and hard nosed think Urlacher, Lewis, Willis and Beason. Davis "can" develop into that remember some analysts said if he went to a bigger school he'd be a borderline 1st Round pick. If Revis believes in him we all should
Scott won't have the play time that Davis does if things work out the way they seem now. He'll just get the starts over him as a respected vet. Think about it this way: if Scott is not starting he won't be happy. If Davis is not starting he'll be happy just to be in the NFL. Next year Scott will be gone and Davis will be starting. If the Jets aren't planning to start Scott they should probably cut him. They don't need the friction after what happened last season at the end.
I think Davis is still a little small to play MLB in the 3-4, especially as a compliment to Harris (I think he would be ok in it if Scott was blowing up blocks, but it doesnt make as much sense with him + Harris atm). I expect them to really focus Davis on working in the 4-3 more, while focusing on maximizing his coverage skills for 3rd downs when used in the 3-4. It just doesnt make sense to me otherwise, Scotts still the bigger/stronger guy thus a much better fit for run situations in the 3-4
Davis will mainly be sub package guy but add some weight over time. he's what 6-2 235 the best size now for a 3-4 ILB is 6-2 240-245 due the speed of the game. Davis is our future ILB next to Harris at the end of the day, Scott will just make the transition that much easier
I wonder whether we'll see him a reasonable amount more against more of those no huddle offenses that teams like the Pats run, since we won't be able to bring people on and off easily.
It seems we are switching to more of a 4-3 defense. Davis is a good fit as a 4-3 LB. Drafting him and Coples who is more of a 4-3 DE shows that we are making a change.
Relax, i hated bart scott last year as much as anybody but lets first see how he bounces back before we give up.
I don't think the Jets are going to be in 3-4 more than 10% of the snaps next season. When they go that look there's going to be a lot of 3-3-5 with Eric Smith or Kyle Wilson on the field. There's going to be a lot of 4-2-5 also. Without the guaranteed contract Scott is already gone. He no longer fits in the scheme most of the time. This is why you don't guarantee contracts to free up current year cap space. You lose too much flexibility the following year and things like Bart Scott still on the roster as the Jets move to a 4 man front occur.
For one. He can tell a lot more about a guy he interacts with then me or you can tell by reading articles and sitting in front of our computers questioning what others are saying simply cause we don't understand a certain thing someone says to explain it. And since when did shorts and a t-shirt stop you from being able to judge a person's leadership/vocal skills. Cause being a leader of any sort doesn't require pads. And if you were just being sarcastic in relation to previous topics then I missed it, so apologies for that.
the quote was petitne saying "looking back on the spring he was the 2nd best player on the practice field" i take that as he was working the hardest and was not making any mental mistakes you might see in half speed no contact drills.i don't see that as "he is the 2nd best player on the defense. also i still don't see the harm in comparing his leadership qualities to ray lewis.if he is on the field and has the other players full attention and they react to him then why isn't it a fair comparison?
