You saying you find it amusing is just you being a smug prick which you followed up with another smug post. Its the offseason people are naturally going to make proclamations on what could happen during the season.
How often is Rex wrong about defensive players, though? So far, I can only remember him being wrong about Gholston in the whole 3 years he's been here, to a lesser extent, maybe Eric Smith, but I know that while Rex is positive about Smith's style of play he doesn't compare him to people like Ray Lewis or Troy Palamalu. It's simply amusing how quickly people dismiss what Rex says.
Even the Vernon Gholston thing was before Rex ever really had a chance to do anything with him. I don't blame him for assuming he could get some production out of Gholston who was a physical freak.
Hence why if you read the article, Revis says that the guy is a leader, he doesn't say he's an all pro player.
Im without a doubt a huge Rex fan boy and have no problem admitting it. And even I have an incredibly difficult time taking him talking up players seriously. Im sure this is a huge part of why his players love him so much and believe in him, but at the same time its also why we the fans also have to realize that hes saying these things to motivate and inspire his players, and not because its reality
Wayne Hunter was a great back up OL. Played very well in the playoffs. Gholston talk was stupid. Kyle Wilson played very well as a nickel. Whats wrong with comparing a players leadership skills to a great leader. Rex coached Lewis for a very long time. Revis by far our best player also came out and said how great of a leader Davis has shown to be. So whats the problem?
Kyle Wilson was the 54th ranked corner during his rookie year that most people considered poor . He was 49th the following year when Rex said that quote. Thats barely an improvement at all. Especially not praise worthy of "Hes the best nickle corner in the league" (which hes clearly not close to yet). Because hes a rookie who hasnt played at all in the nfl yet, and hes already comparing him to one of the greatest leaders in the history of the game. I have no problem with saying "this guy has great leadership skills and I hope he can be our Ray Lewis" but he didnt. And Revis has just been parroting the stuff Rex says. He talked up Wilson after Rex (49th ranked corner), he talked up Mo Wilk, he talked up Ellis, he talked up Davis. Im just saying you REALLY gotta take all this shit with a grain of salt. Do I expect these guy to get better absolutely, do I expect them to live up to ALL this stuff were hearing ? probably not. If Kyle Wilson is even close to being the #1 slot corner were the #1 ranked defense by a mile. And thats before seeing what Davis/Coples bring to the table and how Mo Wilk improved
Ryan also said he was gonna "unleash" Jamaal Westerman as a designated pass-rusher. How'd that work out?
49th ranked corner means jack. Nickel corners naturally give up a lot of short catches because of where they play. So what does comparing him to outside corners mean. Absolutely nothing. He didn't compare how he plays to Ray at all he just said he reminds him of him. Why is that a problem? You think he's lying about his leadership qualities now. He's talking up how vocal he is. Really in the lockerroom he is moderately quiet.
It's still an improvement, but again the stats don't tell the whole story of Kyle Wilson. Yes, he struggled rookie year and the beginning of his 2nd year, but he stepped it up during the 2nd half of the season and started playing better. You can't just look at year 1 vs year 2. Look at his development in year 2, despite the lack of a training camp. CBs usually don't show much until their 3rd season, regardless. I don't remember Rex saying he's the best nickle in the league. Could you reference that for me? Obviously, but you can't assume its wrong, simply because Rex said it. Only complete idiots take Rex's quotes about players as a negative, which is exactly what the darksiders are trying to do in this thread. Anything positive HAS to be debunked, right? Lol at Jets "fans". Most people are thinking, "Great. Davis is getting positive feedback from Rex & Revis, he must be doing something right". But these fucking darksider clowns have to piss all over every positive thing that comes out of camp. Sad. "OMG, Rex and Revis said it! Rex lies and Revis just follows, SKY IS FALLING AHHHHHH!" What a delusional world you guys live in.
You got a quote comparing Westerman to an all star or saying he's the next Ray Lewis? Didn't think so.
There are 64 starting corners in the NFL so I'd say being the 49th best corner from the nickel position is pretty good.
what do you want him to say? It is obvious that Davis has some leadership ability and has reminded Rex of a past great leader. Love it or hate it (I love it), our coach is going to speak his mind. Its better than Eric "the process" ManGINA!
As a nickle corner hes also covering the 3rd best receiver most of the time. Which means hes a 1st round draft pick, likely covering a guy who isnt even a top 50 receiver most of the time . Obviously nickle is a completely different game from #1/#2 corners so he gets a break there. But we all know he wasnt even close to being a top nickle corner yet. And I couldnt find the quote on Rex on Kdub it was a while but on rotoworld Im not saying dont buy into what Rex says, but rather he says alot of things, and has a tendency to exaggerate... alot
That wasnt in regards to last year... The quote was about the year before (which he wasnt very good in either, and he got occasionally got demoted to dime back) The point wasnt about Wilson being good or bad, but rather Rex hyping guys up and people expecting far more from a player than they should. And I would hope KW is better than most nickles, because as far as I know its the only time I can ever think of that a team specifically drafted a corner in the first round to specifically play nickle corner
I thought that quote was about his 2nd year not his rookie season? Just reread it. Obviously its about his sophomore year which was last season. So it was about last year. KW is going in to his 3rd year this year. So what are you talking about?
I hope Davis winds up to be that find the NYJETS havent had in awhile. Other teams benefit from players selected in the later rounds. This is great news!
