The fact he is such a likeable guy contributes to it. His book, the child abuse thing, and cilmbing kilimanjaro.

The Mets were against him doing the climb, but now they're probably going to organize a team outing to K2.

Grove had a 7-appearance stretch in 1931 where he was 5-0 with 2 saves and an ERA of 0.42, but his WHIP was relatively high (0.900) and K rate was quite low (16 in 43 1/3 IP). He led the league in strikeouts 8 years in a row, but by modern standards the actual number of Ks wasn't very high.

Hubbell had an 8-appearance stretch (5 starts, 3 in relief) in 1933 with a 0.71 ERA and 0.711 WHIP, but only 40 Ks in 50 2/3 IP; later that year he had a 7-game stretch (4 starts, 3 in relief) with a 0.39 ERA and 0.832 WHIP, but only 16 Ks in 45 2/3 IP.

Pitching stats from teh 30s are pretty useless when trying to compare to 2012

Nice back-to-back shutouts for the Mets, with 6 good innings from Johan.

    It is usually okay.

I would also like to see the best 6-game stretches from Joe Wood in '12 and Vance in '24.

I hope the weather doesn't ruin the Dickey vs Yankees match up. I'm really looking forward to it.

It looks like you're right. Siri lied to me. She said it was gonna rain on Sunday. I took her word.

Wow, I had forgotten how horrible watching Francisco in a close game is.

Collins gets lucky as Francisco doesn't quite blow it.

Gotta keep believin. If this team could somehow get into the playoffs they would be dangerous.

Hopefully we can take 2 of 3 against the yankees.

It's like Drysdale handed the baton to Gibson to run the anchor leg, Gibson's run started two days after Drysdale.

I checked the game logs... poor Houston combined to play Gibson and Drysdale 4 times during these stretches and the Mets played 3 games against those guys

Gibson gave up some runs to the Cubs on Aug 4 which ended his run but followed it up with 3 consecutive wins going 9 innings and allowing 1 run over the course of those 3 games. 2 shutouts.... unreal

Drysdale did have one advantage in his streak in that 4 of the 6 games were at home, and one was at Houston - Dodger Stadium in the 1960s and the Astrodome were two of the best pitcher's parks ever. What's also interesting is that less than a month after Drysdale's streak ended, so did his career as a top ML pitcher - he only made 25 more starts in his career after July 1, 1968 (and only completed 5 of them), with a 9-12 record, 3.87 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and 4.49 Ks/9IP. He pretty much blew out his shoulder in 1968 and that was it for him.
