at least? you think they'll go 15-1 or 16-0 again? I would say NE should be in the 12-14 range w/ another playoff loss. That team isn't built for the postseason, they had some good matchups in the AFC playoffs this year. Can't expect to catch that break 2 years in a row.

Excellent post, and despite my own questions, I agree a 12-4 season is very unlikely. More to the point is that the record is important for as much of what it says about Sanchez as to where it might put the Jets in regard to a possible playoff berth. Yes, 2012 should be mostly about answering the Sanchez question going forward. In that connection, as you allude to, it will almost be worse if it is ambiguous than a clear negative season. Ambiguous would be still too many turnovers, not enough successful downfield passes, too many sacks caused by holding the ball too long, sulking on the sidelines, and what we have already seen too much of, and that is even if the Jets do marginally better such as 9-7, since I think there's a good chance the D will be somewhat better than last year.

It is also possible that Sanchez could have a materially better year but the Jets still not improve in the standings, due to major injuries elsewhere, and other variables. But yes, this team on balance with an average Qb should be around 10-6, so anything less than that is not good for Sanchez.

The quarterback protection is the wildcard... if the Jets can get that cleaned up then this should be a very very good season.

Lol you think the Pats are winning around 15 games? You do realize how easy your schedule was last year right.

If I'm not mistaken, they have the leagues easiest schedule this year.

That's based on last year, that will likely change. We can't whine about scheds though as we play almost the same exact teams.

The difference between this year and the last 2 years is that the Patriots wont be able to run away with the division. The last 2 years, down the strech their final 8 games or so they were all easy opponents. Their hardest matchups were against the Eagles in 2011 and Packers in 2010 and guess what? Neither Vick or Rodgers played so it was another easy win.

This year the Patsies have the Texans week 14 and 49ers week 15. Both of these teams are favored to go to the Super Bowl and will probably be in division races at the time. Thats 2 potential losses for the Patriots so as long as the Jets are 2 back going into week 14 there is still a real chance of taking the division. The last 2 seasons after the Patriots beat us, it was over. They had no competition left on the schedule.

I don't agree at all that they aren't better on paper than last year. The safety position is much improved, our D line has gotten younger and should have better pass rush, and we've added necessary pieces at WR. I see that as better, even on offense without LT. I agree that it will be all about Sanchez, I just hope the line protects better this season and our punting game improves.

Didnt we have the #1 redzone last year? That helped us ALOT. So you can all say we improved on paper but what if he have redzone trouble and fall back to average? that would be a huge blow

The Pats will have the AFCE wrapped up by Thanksgiving.

Seriously, what other team in the AFCE will win 12+ games?

That's true, but we also were near the top of the 3 and outs list. High red zone efficiency is good, but you have to be able to move the ball down the field. Getting a defensive turnover in the red zone and converting is nice, but you can't score without first getting there. Plaxico was the x-factor in both and feel both aspects will balance out more. Better movement down field, but maybe a slightly lower % rate in red zone, but we'll see what Hill brings. He is the one rookie that needs to emerge more than any other. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Yeah like in 2009 when you actually had difficult matchups down the stretch.

What the hell are you talking about?

In 2009, the Pats went 3-1 down the stretch and their only loss was the last game of the season to the Texans when they already had the AFCE wrapped up and the game didn't mean a thing.

Solid solid coaching. Renewed intense enthusiastic approach. This aint the playing around crew anymore! This team and these coaches mean business. They really mean business and they are talented. I was thinking 11-5 but then I remembered that we have Tebow and he's good for an xtra win so 12-4 Division title, AFC Champions and Superbowl Champions. This year! No more talk - the Jets defense is gonna be a wrecking ball and the offense will be run run explosion! Talk is over - this is a seroius team thats had enough!

This is how I think the talent stacks up in the AFC at this point:

    1. Patriots.

Just the strongest team overall with a huge amount of that value in the QB, a few receivers and tightends and the offensive line. A few decent players on defense and if they added a few more that would probably become a plus unit instead of a drag on the team.

    2. Steelers.

Deepest roster in the AFC at this point with an excellent QB and a bunch of good receivers and a run game that works well as a counter-punch off of that. The defense is one of the most talented units also, probably trailing only the Ravens at this point on that side of the ball.

    3. Ravens.

Just good strong players all over the roster. When Ray Lewis and Ed Reed go, which will be soon now, the Ravens may drop a few slots but will still be a top 6 team in the AFC in terms of talent.

    4. Texans.

The up and coming team in the AFC. Went 10-6 last year despite losing the starting QB after 10 games and only having Andre Johnson for about half the season. Very few teams are going to go 3-3 in crunch time and beat the Atlanta Falcons and the Cincinnati Bengals in the process with T.J. Yates and Matt Leinart starting for them at QB. That's how good the overall roster talent is.

Then you get a dropoff in talent and you have the Bengals, Jets, Raiders, Bills and maybe now the Broncos with Manning.

There's nothing about the Jets roster that screams 10-6 at this point and in fact they've only reached that plateau once in the last 5 seasons. Replacing Sanchez with an average QB statistically would not move them out of the talent tier they're in right now. You have to replace him with a really good QB to do that. As good as Matt Schaub.

What a stupid article. He doesn't even make any damn sense. He says we're more mature, built up camaraderie, and says on paper we're a playoff team BUT gives us an 8-8 record AND puts the Bills over us. Must be smoking some damn crack.

If I remember right you got lit up in New Orleans and then choked in Indy. And you also lost to the Dolphins and lost to the Texans the final week.

See what happens when you play half decent teams down the stretch and not a bunch of garbage teams?

If you think the Patriots are going to have no problem beating the Texans and 49ers you are sadly mistaken. I wont be suprised if they lose both games to those good defenses.
