I'm thinking Wilk gets several more than Coples this year. Remember back to 2003 and 2004 when Abraham was a our sackmaster, but Ellis racked them up because everyone was looking the other direction?

*it is noteworthy that had Abraham been healthy for all 16 games these years, his totals would have been higher. In fairness, I submit that, had Abraham been healthy for all 16 games, Ellis' number would have been higher, too.

I worry that people have unrealistic expectations for Coples. It's hard to get sacks in his role and rookies rarely pick up a lot of sacks anyway.

I think he's going to get enough sacks to keep Maybin on the bench most of the time. It's going to take decent two-way play for Maybin to get on the field this season because the Jets will no longer be desperate for pressure, just looking for more.

What do you mean by his role?

Coples is going to get moved all over the place. I think he's going to get his 7+ sacks although many more than that is unlikely. I also think Wilkerson is going to get about the same. That'll be more pressure from the linemen than the Jets have had since JAbe left town.

I think between 4 and 6. But mainly I wanna see him pressure the QB. I hope he gets 10+ so that every draft expert that called him lazy can eat their words, but I'll be happy with 4-6 and pressure. As far as the 10+ goes. One can dream and hope.

I think 5 or 6 sacks is more than enough to make draft experts eat their words. They had him labeled as a bust and an awful pick. That would be great from a rookie DT.

  10. The # of sacks isn't really important. What's important is that Coples & the rest of the DL get a good push off the snap, can collapse the pocket & punish QB's after they release the ball without the help of constant blitzing from the back 7.

There is plenty of depth, size, wingspan & athleticism for this defensive group to accomplish that feat...time will tell however.

I agree. Your absolutely right. That's a solid number. But those double digits would make it so much sweeter. I wonder what the story lines will be if that were to happen? Is he still selfish and lazy for protecting his future, or is he still wrong for looking out for himself when everything he knew in tar heels country was being taken away. I hope I get to find out.

I think in the 4 to 6 range. He could be better, but I'm not about to start giving undue hype to him. He has all the physical tools in the world for a DE, but needs to show up every play. All reports so far are good and I hope that continues.

4 - 6 is a good number for him. Wasn't very productive last year in a weak ACC conference. Hopefully all of the rumors are not true about him, and he shows his true potential from his junior year at UNC.

I dont really agree here. Maybin has bulked up a ton and should be able to get on the field a lot more. He was our best passrusher last year and I dont really think Coples is going to take away time from him. Im looking to see Maybin’s playing time to increase a good amount, not decrease.

With that said, I see Coples getting about 6-8 sacks this year, which would be tremendous. He is going to get a ton of opportunities to reach his full potential.

Karl Dunbar should also prove to be one of the offseason’s best acquisitions by the end of the year.

Can we call our three man front MoPoCo?

Maybe our four man front will be PaMoPoCo Or MoPoDiCo..........

i think it will be just 1 or 2. i've seen few players who give less of a crap on a football field then coples did last season. no heart and no motor on a team that outside of a great run by maybin, that struggled to put the QB on his back.

plus, i dont see him on the field enough on 3rd downs to get many. i hope im wrong, but i see a dwayne robertson sized bust in coples. one of my least favorite picks for us in a long long time.

Hand in the dirt, facing interior linemen. I'll believe this 4-3 stuff when I see it on the field.
