You're right, the Jets won the Super Bowl with that defense.

    Oh wait!

and when you brought this up other times I said, :what about the Tebow payment? Why would we not try to re-coup $ like the Broncos did for their Bonus payout of Tebow? Did we not end up paying Denver a portion of bonus $ they payed Tebow? The point is; if we really wanted to avoid all of this bull shit, we should have traded him (cap penalty or not) BEFORE or DURING the draft. Now, we have a gun to Revis's head and he has one to the Fron office's head.

Which 3 players did you want in round 1 that are better than Revis?

Also who had 2 first rounders prior to the draft? Cleveland and New England and cincinnatti. We would never trade him to the pats, the Bengals 2 picks were middling, and ultimately no better for us than #16 was, and the Browns were never giving up 2 #1's for a CB when they had no QB, and/or any semblance of an offense.

It only would have been worth trading Revis to get one of the top 2 QB's in this draft, and not only do we already have 2 QB's, but Revis alone wouldnt have been enough to get up there for either guy.

Tebow's situation was drastically different. Denver had fronted Tebow money so they wouldn't have to pay him any money for the rest of his rookie deal. So since he wasn't rendering services to Denver anymore, the money needed to be repaid. It was also worded in the contract that should Tebow be released, he had to return the fronted money, and if he were traded, the new team would refund the Broncos the money. This transaction also DID NOT affect the salary cap in any way.

We haven't fronted Revis any money. Therefore the new team can't give it back to us. There is no clause in Revis' contract like there was in Tebow's that allows this to happen. Due to the way the bonuses work in Revis' contract, it counts against the Jets salary cap, and is money the Jets need to pay out to Revis regardless. There is NO WAY around this affecting the salary cap in a trade situation. It isn't possible.

Before you start bitching why didn't we structure his contract like Denver did Tebow's, that was a highly unusual contract that is still unique in today's NFL. which is what caused the confusion/uproar over the Jets having to pay back Denver, because it's never been seen before. Revis' contract structure is the norm, and likely the way contracts will stay in the NFL for a long time.

The Revis Haters here don't have anything to support their ridiculous claims that he can be easily gotten rid of for real value, and that the team would be better off without him.

They merely assume a Jet FO that is obviously limited in its abilities can trade Revis, replace him, and get players at other positions that will overall improve the roster. Based on what????

    Nothing.

What it is really about is that the Revis Hatera are an alliance of those who fear what might happen in a contract situation with him, and feel better about that by minimizing his value.

Others in the alliance are those who tend to support the FO no matter what.

Others are Sanchez Fans who want to change the subject from the fact that it is really the Offense that is holding the team back, and also that Sanchez is the most over compensated player on the team.

Of course there is overlap among these positions, but that is the alliance.

    Meanwhile, in the real world:

The Jets are not going to trade Revis this year. It's a waste of time talking about that.

Revis will likely show up, have a very good year, earn his salary, and his contract will be taken up next off season.

If the Jets do not have a good year, it will be mostly on the O.

The Revis Haters here can go on bleating nonsense, this after all being the dog days of the off season where there's little of substance to talk about. But it is clearly nonsense, make no mistake about it.

    That about covers it.

Well, no 3 college/rookie players are better than an established, all pro shut down CB. They (possible rookies) are also combined cheaper than Revis, add additional depth in skilled positions, and would all most likely sign and HONOR their deals (something this guy has never done). My argument has never been the skill that Revi$ brings to the table. My concerns are that he wants QB type $ for playing a position that SHOULD carry a max of 6-8 million a year. He never HONORS his ink, and frankly play a poison that isn’t that impactful (real all the posts in the epic thread and tell me how a CB can have the impact on a game, consistently that a top tier OLB, S, DE, OT, QB have).

To answer your question of the who we trade with; fucked if I know, I was not privy to possible trade partners during the draft (you could have multiple teams and current players exchanged and I don’t have the strength to play “what if’s” this morning). I can give you the two other picks I would have taken (I will assume we received two picks from 8-29 for Revis). I will also not speculate on the other possible FA’s we could have chased as I know there would be a cap hit for the bonus $ we paid him already (I have still yet to confirm if the team trading for Revis would have to pay back some of the bonus $ like we did for Tebow). I digress

    Gilmore CB

    DeCastro OG

I mean, so many scenarios could play out with three picks, again I don’t have the time to play what if’s. With these two guys, we obtane the best pure guard prospect since Hutch and a quality CB with the ability to play the slot. Again, other would have picked different personnel, but you asked my opinion. These moves strengthen our team without adding 13 million.

BB, I thought you were a a good poster until this.

WHat have you read this year that makes you believe that Revis is going to show up and play? Has he not expressed his desire to "take care of the band-aid"? based on his past actions (best prediction of the future) what makes you so sure he will be at camp this year (he dosent have to hold out, he could have an "injury").

Also, how do you know the Defense wont be the glaring weakness on this team in 2012? This is some speculation my friend. You dont have to like the fact that I hate Revis. I dont want a guy on my team who plays a position that has slighly more value than a Punter, and wants to get paid like a QB. Furthermore, this person wont horor his deals...You want players like this on the Jets? Take your Holmes and Revis and the 20% of the teams cap they eat up and live with the under performance and looker-room schnaigans

Wtf is wrong with you. Have you watched this team. You think the defense is going to be the weakness of the team? How does any Jets fan hate Revis the best player this team has ever had maybe ever.

People think he is going to be there because we physically DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY THIS SEASON to pay him. He's not going to sit out and make 0 money for the next 2 years.

Also to say CB has slightly more value than a punter is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Our only real talent in 09 was at CB and we were the number 1 over all D. Harris is good but he is not great.

Revis isn't going to hold out this season because he and his agents know damn well they can't get any more out of the Jets this year for cap reasons. He's not answering the question because his agents want to put pressure on the Jets to redo the deal next year.

    Thanks for answering this.

You have to wonder if someone who does not realize the Jet D is far better than the Jet O is even paying attention.

Thank you, too. Geez. This is not all that complicated.

The related piece is it is entirely possible, as reports have indicated, that the Jet FO did lead Revis and his agent to believe that his contract would be redone before going into his contract year, but after the first two years. Well, we are in that period, and while the Jet FO has reasons to wait until next year, imo it should not be surprising that Revis is subtly saying, hey we can do this now, you know.

I just know from history, specifically the Pete Kendall situation, that this FO is perfectly capable of mishandling a negotiation with a player.

I wish you were born 30 miles more north so you could post your retarded ideas in Bills forums.

My username has nothing to do with why what you said was ridiculous. I'm an American but when I say America is better than fucking Kenya does that make it wrong because I'm biased.

Uh, ftr Buffalo is west of Rochester. Heh. Specifically west by southwest. about 60 miles. I know that area pretty well, too. Genny Cream Ale, baby! And winter only lasts about six months.

    And finally, Rochester >>> Buffalo.

Thank you for repeating this. Holding out this year makes no sense.

My Moms from Rochester I always thought Buffalo was north west though. Haven't been there in years. I always used to go to the theme park when I was younger Sea Breeze.

I'll just claim that I was talking about Canada then since that is where the Bills will be soon.

haha, agree to disagree then guys. I would have wanted this diva gone WHEN we could have gotten more than market value (Obviously there are way too many obsticals based on the verbadge of his contract). Is he a hell of a player, Yes. Is he overated in terms his value, yes in my opinion (Cb is not a true impact positin unless the team is playing an top 10 WR, AFC east, 6 games, no reciever on any team is top 10). I could possiably see his value if were were the Vikings as they play Jennings, Marshall, and Calvin. He makes this D better, but I would rather spend the 11-13 million on a top 5 pass rusher and have Wilson and Cro manage the starting CB positions.

Ok... to clarify a few stuff here:

    1. I do not hate Revis. I repeat. I do not hate Revis.

    2. That said, I am of an opinion that, if Revis wants to be the highest paid CB in the NFL, he should do that in other franchise, not with the Jets.

    3. After all, Jets have about 22M tied up on top 3 guys at CB position - and one of them plays only on sub packages. That's not a wise investment no matter how you cut it.

    4. So will the Jets trade Revis this year? - and take that massive cap hit? A 100% certified moron like Jeff Ireland won't pull the trigger. So you all can rest assured that Revis will stay a Jet this season, regardless of whatever is going on in the media these days.

    5. So where do we go from here? Since if Revis plays out his contract next year, he's a free man (Jets can't slap franchise tag on Revis) - so the pressure is on the Jets to get a new contract before that happens. From the practices in the European Soccer, I can tell you that, waiting till the very last year to renew any contract is a bad practice on the front office. This is because the player can always tell the front office "Fuck you" and bolt after the last contract season. Probably this is what Revis is banking on - "if you don't pull the trigger now, I won't sign a damn thing next season" kind of a threat. And it is a real threat. Realistically, I would say Jets have two choices now, if this is how Revis camp is going about it. First, Jets can give Revis a new contract this summer. That will be seen as yet another victory on Revis camp. The other is trading Revis after this season. Depending on the situation, it can become a real possibility, so you'd have to watch it.

Of course, Revis can sign a new contract after this season, but that's 50/50.

If Darrelle Revis holds out this year it will resolve some structural issues not cause more ones in my opinion.

As you point out the Jets hands are if not tied at least constricted in terms of their movement range. They're not going to be able to trade Revis without him making significant concessions in the form of giving them back a fair amount of money that they have already paid him at this point.

That's the only way to lessen the cap hit of trading him, he has to give back cash already earned and the Jets need a credit towards the cap.

So, given that hell will freeze over before that happens, the Jets and Revis will stare at each other all through camp and then well into the season. The Jets will have some real leverage at that point since Revis will have given up unhindered free agency at the end of 2013 when he initiated the holdout.

Then at some point during the 2012 season Revis will return, likely to less than a hero's welcome. The Jets will either be doing well at that point and the assumption will be that Revis is gone in a trade after the season or they will be doing poorly and the fans will be in no mood to welcome the guy who held out (again) when the Jets were trying to make a run.

The structural issues that are resolved will be that Rex Ryan will have to make his defense work without Darrelle Revis. Based on Rex's track record there's no reason to believe that this will be hard to do. He'll just adapt his scheme to his personnel, like he always does, and the results will be good, like they always are. If the results are good well then we've got our answer on whether paying Darrelle Revis a king's ransom is necessary. They're going to be good.

In early 2013, maybe just before the draft Darrelle Revis will get traded somewhere that he's unlikely to come back and haunt the Jets anytime soon. He'll draw less than you'd expect but the Jets will get a 1st round pick and something else out of the deal.

Revis would balk at the deal but for the fact that the team that he is going too has re-worked the very unfavorable deal that he is locked into with the Jets at that point. He'd like to have more say in where he goes but he gave that up when he held out.

The third Revis holdout will be seen as one of the worst player contract moves ever and it will be held up as an example of the limits that even a star player lives under in the NFL in terms of ability to make his own path.

Of course all of this is a fantasy. There's not a snowball's chance in hell that Darrelle Revis does anything that could be remotely construed as holding out between now and the end of 2013. He'd be shackling himself in the process and given the negative fallout of the move he might well get Mike Tannenbaum, his patsy, fired and then where would he be?

You just went through a scenario of exactly why Revis shouldn't hold out.
