I totally agree. i don't like Holmes and I have made it clear in many threads with lists of reasons why. This story is definitely overblown, but it's also a reminder of the unnecessary challenges we faced last season and that we do not want to face this season.

Tanny's biggest mistake was signing holmes to a big contract. I have no idea how it reads, but many posters have stated that the cap burden of trading holmes far exceeds keeping him. Plus, from what I hear, Holmes got everything up front. His contract should have been highly incentive laced.

We all know Holmes has a tremendous amount of potential when he wants to play ball. The problem is when Holmes gets down he is not mature enough to focus. He gets down, he shows up his coaches and his teammates and his negative energy effects players around him. I am especially concerned about the younger guys.

All said, New York media is a mother fucker.

Again, I haven't been on this story as much as most around here, but I think it adversely affects the Jets because Holmes exhibits this type of behavior when he's supposed to be a "leader" of the team/offense.

Its one thing for some jerk off on a team to act immature or do stupid things, but when that guy is your captain, your leader, who is supposed to teach by example and is not only a blueprint for the young guys to look at but is the face of the team in terms of media, etc., it can be a huge problem. In those situations, when stupid players act out, the leaders of the team are there to keep the lockeroom's attitude and focus straight. Other teammates know that is not the way to act. But when that stupid player is also your leader, who is going to show the team otherwise?

I'm pretty sure it's the "tossing the helmet" part that sets people off. You seem to ignore that and the fact that Holmes is a proven douchebag. People have a legit reason to raise their eyebrows at this.

I don't believe it's anything to worry about, especially with Sparano around. But it's early June and people need something to chomp their teeth into. Hopefully Tebow can inspire Holmes to stop this sort of behavior.

isnt there a Tebow thread you should be in?

im not going to go as hypothetical as to the exact exchange he had with a coach.

just playing devils advocate to everyone here who thinks theyre good enough to be a GM.

Holmes wasnt brought here to be an ambassador to the sport. he was brought in here to win games.

when i see Holmes i see a potential top tier WR whos such a competitor he lets his will to succeed make him react in a less than desirable manner at times.

    most WR's are like this.

do I think some of the stuff hes done is excusable? not really

but in the same token you get stories like him wearing headphones turns into him becoming a Terrorist on a plane.

Last year the whole team was in meltdown mode. naturally when the whole locker room is in disarray the person who will look like the biggest hothead is someone whos not used to incompetency and is used to being a contributor to a winning Franchise.

    the steelers dont accept mediocrity.

lets keep in mind the only reason Holmes left PIT was because he likes to smoke pot and his failed drug test was right around the same time Rapelisberger showed his colors.

getting rid of Holmes was a PR move. they certainly werent going to get rid of a franchise QB.

anyways Holmes can redeem himself this year and I see this as another exaggeration by newspeople hoping to pick up the Holmes storylines from the end of last yr.

Seeing as how I'm now a Jets fan, nah, there's not a Tebow thread that I should be in right now, as this affects the Jets.

As to you not wanting to get into hypotheticals, I'd guess that it's because you don't like the answer you'd be compelled to give.

Most of us already understand that there are ways that all of the actions discussed could have happened and not been a problem. How a player could go to a coach and say "my legs are feeling tight, I think I need to sit out for a few", or how a guy could be pissed, frustrated and upset with himself, and he might throw his helmet.

Then, you have Holmes' history and how he has been known to act, and you really have to take that into account.

Does it mean that he definitely acted this way ? No, he might in fact have turned over a new leaf, and might have acted as professional as most of the other guys on the team.

BUT, given his history, why would anyone give him the benefit of the doubt ?

I think you're probably in the minority if you don't think he's a douche bag, but hey that's your opinion. Personally I think he's a hood rat who was blessed with tremendous talent and has a gigantic sense of entitlement now that he's got money.

But he helps the Jets on the field so as long as he's not disrupting the team idgaf.

No, most WRs in the league AREN'T like this. You can pretty much count the ones that are with your fingers. The ones that are/were usually didn't have stable careers as they found themselves being moved from team to team after coaches, owners and other players got tired of their bullshit and their negativity.

The best thing that could have happened for Holmes is the departure of Brian "if its fixed, we better break it" Schottenheimer AKA 'lil schitty.

Hopefully, this year he can hang onto the football and get up field. that would be a nice start. He can always contribute with a block or even just say something encouraging to the media for a change.

His attitude sucks more than a toothless crack head.

your a jets fan now thats cute. we know why. so like i said, isnt there a tebow thread you should be tending to?

I dont like to go into hypothetical statements because what I originally said was hypothetical enough, you took it a step further.

I dont give a shit if anyone gives him the benefit of the doubt. I'm just saying this story is way more of an issue than its made out to be based off the fact theyve milked the Tebow OTA crap for all they can so now they are using this to drum up the turmoil from last year.

    nothing more, nothing less.

the answer id be compelled to give? oh yeah you really had me on the ropes when I indeed said Holmes is a hothead whose sometimes ignorant actions are fueled by a competitiveness and selfishness thats exhibited by most WR's.

    you then disagreed.

that doesnt make any one of us right or wrong I'm just not with the overreacting consensus on this site.

yeah team to team, hes on his second team and I explained exactly why he was moved in the first place.

it was a PR stunt to save face between his pot smoking and Big Ben being a rapist and QB trumps WR.

If Mike Wallace never emerged the Steelers would be missing Holmes dearly.

lets not act like Holmes is a talentless hothead

and i made my statement based on the fact out of all positions in the NFL WR has the most divas where being somewhat selfish is more of a positive thing than any other position based on the singularity of the execution of the position.

WR's dont have to be a coshesive unit. its you versus coverage and chemistry with your QB is the only other thing involving another player.

do i wish Holmes was a more positive leader and less controversy followed him?

    yes.

do i believe all of its warranted?

    no

I saw that you "explained" why the Steelers moved him. I also saw where others "explained" why the Steelers really moved him, i.e. they wouldn't put up with his shit.

You also said that almost all WRs are divas and I retorted that you were wrong. And that those who were often moved from team to team as each grew tired of their crap.

TOwens ring a bell ? How about Ocho ? Or Randy Moss in his earlier years before he grew up ?

Teams figured out that their on the field production wasn't worth the crap that they brought to the team.

Isn't it possible (if not probable) that if he was injured the reason he "tossed his helmet" was out of frustration of getting injured? Not anything to do with the team, his reps, being unhappy with his role, etc. Just an athlete pissed off that he got injured. Happens all the time, in lots of sports.

And, really, if that is the case it's a good thing: it shows he cares. If he was like "meh, oh well, I'm injured: pay me, didn't want to play anyway. pay me" that would be way worse.

As I've said before: I'm not a huge Holmes fan but I think some people out there have already made up their minds on him and will intentionally interpret everything he does or says into a negative. Did he mess up last year? Yes. Does he deserve a chance to make up for it? I believe he does, yes. So cut him some slack...especially on something like this where people are making MASSIVE assumptions about what happened and why it happened.

Of course that's entirely possible but people who see the worst possible scenario aren't going to assume anything other than that. Given his history it's not a huge leap. It's really a bunch of noise in early june that won't amount to anything.

ok so out of all the positions in the nfl which one historically moreso has the divas?

and did you refute my point that this competitiveness that is so passionate its borderline selfish is almost required to be a playmaking wr to thrive in the moment of pressure?

Ocho wasnt a headache, Ocho was a goofball. and he only got let go cause he was old. Randy Moss and TO will be HOFers.

which is my point, if you take the top tier of talent at the WR position they usually have an attitude, moreso than any other position.

i dont care if you agree but theres more than enough history and evidence to back that up. and im not saying its acceptable. im just saying Holmes isnt this isolated incident that throws the norm off.

As a more honest beat writer (Chris Nimbley) put it who was there at the practice...

"It's still amazes me how some writers can't figure out Holmes just doesnt like YOU. Yet you ignore how he goes out of his way to help others"

Also, this story didn't come up until after the press conference and was written by some one that wasn't even there. During the whole practice Holmes was teaching all the young new WRs and before that was in Germany supporting the army yet he is a scumbag. I would be a scumbag to the media too after all the shit that he has been getting for every little thing

Why they decided to keep this knucklehead after last season is beyond me. Then again, it's Mike T, he doesn't have a fucking clue what he's doing anyways.
