http://www.thejetsblog.com/2012/05/...on-trip-during-camp-to-cheer-olympian-sister/ Gotta love Mangold - hopefully he's a Jet for life.
Awesome. He should go to London though. Absolutely should support his sister and miss a couple days. Love him for not going though. And hes a Buckeye.
Well, I could see him going if she had attended all of his games. Come to think of it, wasn't she on the Flight Crew?
Neither would I but I like his mentality. "Nick thought it was the wrong move to take time off while his teammates worked in his absence." "I don’t think I can leave my guys in the middle of training camp" That's a guy that knows what it's all about when it comes to football. That's a guy I want on the Jets until he can't play anymore.
It's a great indication of his devotion, and I'm sure she would understand why he is unwilling to leave the off season program.
Well your sister isn't in the Olympics. Great for Mangold to make the choice on his own to stay in Cortland for TC. I would of went if I were him, because something like this is once in a lifetime (or 2), but Mangold sees the importance of this season - so I'm happy he's staying =)
Hmmm.... glad he is dedicated, but he couldn't he at least have gone for ONE day? Is missing one, or even TWO days of practice really going to make or break the team? But she is obviously just as dedicated to her sport, so she probably insisted that he not come. ....and who's going to argue with her?
No it's not going to make or break the team, it just shows how much of a leader he is. He's not going to leave his team for a "fun" trip while they work there asses off to prepare for the season. I get that it could be a once in a lifetime type thing for his sister, but she'll be just fine without him there and he'll be able to see it on TV and talk to her on the phone. BTW, I can't imagine going to Europe for just 1 or 2 days.
I respect mangold for his decision not to go, and I still would have respected it if he did go. But when I was watching the MTV True Life episode with his sister in it, Nick didn't look to supportive of his sister being a power lifter. So I don't think his decision not to go was really that hard to make for him lol
Good leadership by Mangold. Publicly putting it out there that what the team needs comes first on his priority list.
Mangold is doing the exact right thing. I think Rex was being nice, but it's the wrong move to allow someone to leave during training camp. You can bet the asshole up in Foxboro wouldn't allow it, and he'd be right. It's one thing if it were any scheduled thing before training camp, but all hands on deck for training camp. It's their job.
