Undrafted rookie WR Dwight Jones informed Texans officials Tuesday that he no longer wants to play football.

He can expect to be waived shortly. Jones entered the 2011 college season with early second-day grades from NFL scouts, and earned second-team All-ACC honors. He lacked passion for the game, however, and had a red flag-filled spring that included dogging drills at the Combine. Perhaps the Texans will try to talk Jones out of it, but we're no longer holding out hope for his NFL career.

This couldnt go in the NFL forum because the guy never made it. I put it here in the draft forum because I know that a lot of us were really sold on this Tar Heel --- he was a 2nd rounder in a mock draft I put out there in October. Guys like him amaze me. All the physical attributes that those of us mortals would kill for and he just didnt give a shit.

Remember we had that RB Cedric Houston? He played 2 years then just walked out of training camp in year three.

Yeah, its odd. Must be depression or something.

Or maybe despite being good at it he just doesn't love playing football and wants to do something else with his life then put his long-term health in jeopardy to do something he doesn't really love? Nothing too crazy about that.

No shame in that.... I actually commend the guy for #1 saying this ain't for me because despite what we see on tv which is game day, the nfl is a rule full time job. #2 him freeing up a spot for someone who definitely wouldn't of made the team or got a shot to make the team because he is holding a spot.

Dwight Jones is just an immature kid that let a great opportunity slip thru his fingers.

Great talent with good size that lacks the focus to play in the NFL.

He was known as a lazy player at UNC, despite breaking many UNC receiving records.

Jones was manhandled at Senior Bowl practices, showed a poor work ethic and really turned off a lot of scouts.

The New Year's Eve Party he arranged with a flyer with him promotuing the party in uniform and tying it in with UNC was a NCAA violation that got him suspended for the Independence bowl. UNC decided not to have him participate at thier Pro Day.

    What a waste.

Maybe he just used football to get him a college degree. Not a damn thing wrong with it.

Yeah nothing crazy with passing on the American dream, to likely end up living a life of mediocrity.

Some guys just don't love the game. You can have immense talent and not love the sport. You would think some players would be smart enough to give it their all just for the sheer amount of money they can make. But if your heart isn't in it, your heart isn't in it.

Not saying Jones is one of these guys at all. If he doesn't want to play football, for whatever reason, who cares, let him do something else. If he's a smart enough person making a decision that he's happier and can survive without it, whatever. If he's just lazy and a moron who refuses to work hard, then so be it, wasted opportunity. Jones sounds like the latter.

I don't know, my heart wasn't in lots of the jobs I took when I was younger. I took them because they paid the bills and got me started. Later, when I was more established, I started a career that my heart was in.

The biggest question is do you think there were any guys there besides him? Seriously how does somebody like him give away 500 cash, free shots amongst other things?

I love the line "Come out and celebrate with our future star before off to camp & all work, no play" did they not proofread it? That right there is a party foul.
