That Cruz play was more on Wilson and Cromartie than Smith. I was actually surprised Smith had a remote chance of getting close to Cruz to try and make a tackle on him. That guy's ridiculously fast and elusive. The Witten play was a blow in coverage rather than a blow in tackling. He still an alright in the box safety as a situational player, but I still think he's a liability as a starter. That doesn't mean he's not a good tackler, or special teams player, both of which might keep him on the roster.
Now all the talk is to play three safeties for offenses like the Pats throw at you so they may both start with Smith.
Let's not think like Madden, our system is going to be set for two Strong Safeties and plenty of man coverage from our corners.
And when the patriots run the hurry up and the safeties drop in the box and Eliminate the run( Cover Zero ) ... We will unleash our up and coming D line on them
Of course teams are going to check in with him to see what his health is like. But there are no reports of anyone going beyond that. I think that says something.
It also says something that they signed him for $3.5M. You don't shell out that kind of cash unless there is competition for his services.
The jets are already a team that is good in pass defense. Last year we got burned by the run in most of the games we lost, think Oakland, new England, etc. The Pats are all about passing, but they exploited our weak run d with Green-Ellis. Landry will be a huge improvement in stopping outside runs due to his major speed. Idk why people are acting as if Rex and Tanny are ignoring pass d, because we already have a team strong in that respect.
Listen the Idea of this is when in the hurry up and with the Additions of Coples and Landry and Bell When the hurry up is ran Safeties will drop or disguise they're zone or assignment forcing the Other Team to run they're pass play against probably the best trio in the league CB's... The thing that killed us besides the Run play in the hurry up was the FB flat pass or HB flat pass those have always murdered us and you just have to hope that we have a plan for those plays
